I did that to mine as soon as I get time I am going to do a build thread on it with how I did it. It is not terribly hard to do.

thanks, awesome site for a chev nut, im new here tryin to figure how everything works. The "big dirty" is my 1980 Gmc 35, very original except for all the rust. Original .020 over 400 Block but built for some power/th400/205/d60, just finished the 14 bolt rebuild, the gov lock just grenaded hard even blew parts through the cover and im runnin 37/13.5/20 rubber with almost no lift (first pic was when i got it put on some 285s to drive it home)

I finaly bought a used grill from a fellow board member and when the new grill did arive I had my girl friend put it away till I repaint the red truck.

same with me, I could'nt find em round home (Tenn), my girl freind has family in Texas so when we go to visit I always hit the salvage yard around there.
I've bought 3 of the grill/core support combo's from the same yard so far, the last two had Chevy grill's .
as far as the color sceme on my red truck , seems like you, me and GMTGMT are the only ones that like it, every one else says it looks to dated.

thanks, but you'd have to have quite a few $$$. I got a good deal when I bought it but the next owner wont !
my girl friend said I was nuts to put $4500 worth of tires and wheel's on a $1500 truck, I told her a new one would cost around $50,000 so with what I've spent so far I got $40,000 left to spend on it !

That's how all of mine are. But I'm really still wanting a 05ish F-350 crew cab so sometime later I may venture in the payments again. But not if I can help it.

I got sick of the red paint, thought this suited it a little better. Still have to paint my hood, interior and inside the box..
I don't have to do rust repair before paint if it's "rust inhibiting" paint right?

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

it looks good, let me know if the rust inhibitor paint fix's the rust. I'll paint all mine that color !

Thanks for the compliments guys. This is the paint I used, the color is "olive drab" and the color swatch was filed under "classic military vehicle" at the paint store.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Endura also has a mix as well with a few different shade choices. This is one of them with some "modifications" to the formula. Decent stuff to spray as well.....

Not a crew cab but the paint that I used on my last project is the point....

Cool. is that a semi gloss?

Devillusion 12-04-2011 02:14 AM

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

ya, flat as I could get it with the percentages that they allow. But it is very picky how you spray, temperature etc. Lighter coats and a faster dry time would have been optimal, just not how things worked out. But love the paint though....easy to clean and maintain.
