Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Very nice work as usual. Just curious how many bugs you got in your teeth driving around the block with no windshield and a big smile. Haha. Been there.

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Right on, seeing your truck without windows and you saying you drove it brought back some memories for me doing that back in the seventies with my truck wearing googles. LOL
Your truck looks super awesome for sure! Brian |

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Well I been covered in dust lately but the blocking sessions is going great. This is what it looks like after the first blocking session and second coat of primer. I think I only have one more blocking of the complete bed in and out if I use a sealer, the panels will dictate that.

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
I decided to make my own bed wood because I don’t care for how busy the fleetside kits are with all those boards. I like the simplicity of how it looks with wider boards, so I talked to a couple of buddies of mine who done this years ago and they told me they had no issues going with wider board and their beds floors looks as good now as it did when they done it.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d07f5f1e_z.jpg Use a router with a rabbet bit to create the notch for the strips. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8c0ce113_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...63fe1185_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...38446543_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...351cefaa_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a8ae9e61_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1f4d0821_z.jpg I have not decided on a stain as of yet, but I’m leaning towards automotive clear to protect it. |

Your truck is coming along awesome.. I like the wider board look for sure. I was messing around with some pine to see if I could do all the router work. Went with the stock dimensions and number of boards, found out that the Boyd's tank nozzle hits dead center of two boards. I would rather do like you did by putting wide board dead center.. what width did you go with to make your boards the same? Thanks JT from SC Attachment 2064048 |

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Thank you for the tips for sure.
Back to lowes for more pine. Lol Also like the hidden fastener strips that you are using. I'm planning on using them also, still need to plug weld some (thinking ) 3/8 x 3 bolts in the cross members to eliminate the bed through frame washer bolts. Bam thanks for documenting your outstanding truck build. Your craftsmanship is top notch !!! Thanks JT from SC |
