Grapefruit.. Dang it I knew that I missed one.

Yeah Boog they still make them. Mostly the one piece front ends that I didn't want. I just want a hood to replace the one that the wind got. I ordered it December 3rd.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Went over to the rental house to make a measurement for our realtor. She wanted to know the distance from the house to the wall at the property line. A realtor showed up with prospective buyers just as I pulled up, so I waited about an hour until they left. Ain't supposed to talk to the owners...

Anyway, I made the measurement (11 feet and change, in case anyone is interested, ), then went inside to see what damages were incurred, and to turn the water on for the toilet in the bathroom that got new flooring. Made a basic security check. They left the sliding glass door unlocked. :( My wife called our realtor with that dimension, and mentioned that business with the door. Our realtor will spank the other one and put up notes to the effect that they should lock the place up before they leave. All we need is for a prospective buyer to leave a door unlocked and move into the place. Man, I'll sure be glad when this place is out of our hands. I'll be over there again, as usual, and if I have to stay over there to make sure it's locked up, I will.

must be cv week for me. wife comes home yesterday with a cv clanging on her envoy. after what happened with the stepper cv, i went to the parts store and paid more than online, but who cares...tried to save a few bucks with my truck and it bit me in the a$$ royally. my son is getting more practical experience working on our junk than he does at work..lol

Wish my Envoy undercarriage looked like yours . I'm milking it till the frame is unrepairable then I'll pull the motor and the interior for one of my trucks

prob because we use mostly sand and a little bit of brine on the roads in winter.
bought it new for the wife in '04, so didn't have to deal with someone else's headache...plus my wife drives like creeping jesus.

I could use that here. Unfortunately my son has skinny toothpick arms like I did at his age (ie....muscle...NO  ) plus he is 7 hrs away in Texas, so grab a bigger/longer ratchet is where I end up. :D

i'm 5' 10" and 190lbs, he's got a couple inches height on me and about 15 more pounds. happy to have him around still, with my torn rotator cuff, he's been really picking up the slack and helping his old man get things done.

Got the doors done . Used a paint I haven’t used before Rust-oleum ceramic high heat paint suppose to be good to 2000 degrees . But you need to step cure it . 1 hour at 250 let cool then another hour at 400 let cool then 600 for an hour . Glad I have an old oven .

The stove looks great Mark. I'd love to clean mine up but it's always going in the cold weather. It'll be a summer project.

Today I cleaned 45 years worth if of dirt and garbage out of my Bug. I found some 30.06 shell casings in there too. I don't know what's up with that but I filled up 3 trash cans. What a disgusting mess. I was surprised how solid the floorpans were. The weather-stripping (what weather-stripping?) was fried and it leaked. I had a little pond in the car. But the floors held up. Now I just need to rust treat them and put in the silver stuff.

I had my kitchen knives sharpened by my neighbor. I don't know how he does it but he gets them like razor blades. I hate dull knives. Have you ever tried to slice a tomato with a dull knife. That's what you call a mess. It'll probably be a mess when I cut one of my fingers off.

After much digging and looking at all my friend's parts staches, I picked up a late 60s air cleaner for the camaro. Even though the breather cap isn't chromed like the factory model is, this will work ok. It has seen better days, but I will beat out the dings and slick it up. It was for an automatic car, so some welding anf filling is needed. I removed the vacuum unit on the snorkel and gave it a trial fit.it is amazing how hard it is to find original parts for these vehicles that we do. They used to repop this, but I guess, not any more.

Better off with original than a repop. I'd send the top to a chrome shop and gloss black the rest. Slap a new sticker on it and it'll be slicker than snot. Nice find.

But on the flip side... I have a 67 Pontiac GTO/Firebird 400 Air Filter Top and Bottom Assembly I have tried to sell numerous times, Swap Meets, Craigslist and Ebay not even a "How Much"

I understand . No telling how many I pitched 45 years ago in favor of open chrome breathers. I know where there is a factory ss 350 68 Camaro chrome top air cleaner. It is for an auto too and he wants 380 bucks for it. I'm way too cheap for that.😁

we had a stormy day, freezing rain for most of it and no power for about 9 hours so no work in the shop today, power is back on but now it's snowing.a good night to be indoors.i spent the day making sure the generator stayed running.no big deal, could always be worse.

Pure snow is always nicer. Probably wouldn't have lost power. People curse the snow and nature responds with freezing rain and damp weather hovering just above freezing. The most uncomfortable bone chilling weather there is. Freezing dries things up! Saturday was overcast, damp, and mid-30s. I was tooling around in it a boy was it raw!

mr.mud1 01-24-2023 08:16 AM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

yes sir, snow is easier to handle.last night about 11 bells, the power went back off.it was storming pretty good.i just came back in from dragging the generator back outside, there's a foot of snow in places and it must have continued to rain for a while before the snow, the clothesline is about as big around as my arm,all the power wires too.they can't stand that weight.i wonder what today will bring?

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Hopefully thawing on the powerlines and not branches/trees falling

I think it looks pretty. They make 'warm clothing' for cold weather. They make 'nothing' for hot weather and you're still hot. Wind makes any temperature suck. A still day, just dress right.

Mark, I'll be looking for your thread

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Bought 2 barns. Signed the final (I hope) paperwork on the new to me house. These escrow nitpicks are the worst.

I only got one actual barn. I call the house a barn because it's big. 2800 sq. ft. 6 bedrooms 4 bathrooms. It's a barn. Should be enough room to keep mama off my rear end.

But it really does have a small barn big enough to work on a car. That should make a nice shop. And a roomy 2 car garage with an office. My wife doesn't want to paint the barn but I do. I snapped a picture of it. It's already wired for 220v and 110 and has double doors on the back. I'm pretty happy with the place. Except it has a pool that I don't want to clean.

What do you think? Paint it or leave it "rustic'?

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Let's see the house!

Paint and preserve. It can look like that again if you decide you don't like it. I know it's about as dry as it gets where you are, so the wood shouldn't rot. But seeing that dark colored wood says rot process in my East Coast mind. At that board dividing upper and lower is a prime spot for deterioration if not build properly to avoid it. Usually the case. I see that paint was sprayed on. I never spray exteriors. It's not like painting a vehicle. Spraying doesn't last. Not enough paint on porous material with such thin coats. plus, overspray is a bitc# to control.

On second thought, maybe it wasn't sprayed. Is that the red paint bleeding onto the white? At first I thought it was overspray

Once it's been painted it should be kept up . Mine was never painted I just replace boards that go bad

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I would have taken more pictures if the house but I was so tired. This getting over Covid really knocks the wind out of my sails quick. Some people recover quick but I'm 4 months in and still conk out at the drop of a hat. I could barely do the walk through.
The house isn't much to look at now but it's got the bones. It is definealty getting painted inside and out. New blinds. My wife wants Plantation shutters and French doors which aren't cheap. There are 4 sliding doors that she want to change to French doors. And fencing for 1 acre, new kitchen and floors. And the pool needs to be resurfaced. Cha Ching!
It's going to cost a lot but once it's done it's done and I ain't moving again. I've said it before but I mean it this tine.

I do have this one pic of the back. Couldn't get the whole house in the pic. It keeps going. Ugly paint but the tile roof is good. I was going to go for a darker color. The fence is not attractive. The lady we bought it from (really nice lady) tried to keep it up with "temporary' fencing to keep her dog in (nice dog too).

To me it's like an old car. I see what it can be, not what is there at the moment. I need a single story house because I don't do stairs well anymore.

It looks better in person. I'm painting the barn. I don't want rot. I'll try to keep it authentic, just protected. Funny, it looks like new inside.

Not too shabby looking house. Is this near where you are now? There is a specific barn paint in that traditional read. It holds up better than house paint and cheaper.

What I did yesterday was noticed an old girlfriend had messaged me last weekend and attempted to call quite a few times. It's been since early '07 that we've spoken. I sent a reply message and we ended up messaging throughout the day. It's a strange feeling, hard to explain. I dated her after my wife left. I enjoyed her company but I realized she wasn't the one. But it sure was great getting back in touch. Flattering that she sought me out.

It's closer than my house in Wofford Heights which I'm going to sell soon. My wife doesn't want to stay there since our friend dropped dead in the living room and I was hauled away to the hospital the next day. Too many bad memories for her. So this one replaces that one. And it's closer to everything. Her work is literally down the block. No commute.

I'm keeping the barn the same colors. I'm thinking of putting a Mobil Oil Pegasus sign over the door and an old gas pump if I can find one at a somewhat reasonable price. I don't know, if I find another cool old sign that may change. Time to hit the antique shops. The place just needs a facelift.

Larry. I always liked the single story ranch house myself. The first time I saw this one it was sold. I have high hopes for it.

The first priority is fencing. I've got to keep my dogs safe and Duke scares people. He is a very intimidating dog. The Chihuahua not so much but he thinks he is.

Tim, I had an old girlfriend message me too. (The one that got away) I met her for lunch at In N Out (I'm a cheap date) 30+ years later and I was still crazy for her. BUT... She's married and I'm married. So we just had burgers and caught up. She has kids in college and so do I. Where does the time go?

Papers are signed. Now it's just a countdown until I get the keys. They want to close by the end of the month so we're almost there.

Sounds like a good move all around. Your wife will be happier with her commute, especially in bad weather. The house doesn't look to me like a barn. More like a chicken coupe :exit:

Rose got married to her next boyfriend. I didn't ask if she still was married but I assume so. She was everything I could have ordered in the looks department with a great personality and outlook. But there were other differences that kept me from going farther with it. She's 15 years younger, yet we related well. She has a brother about my age. It's just nice knowing I mattered enough to her to search me out. Still mighty fine lookin', too! :frog:

I don't know what her motivation was, at this point. The gal I'm doing work for (my friends girlfriend, also now my friend) just said the other day a woman never just does something. They don't waste time, they are interested in a guy if they are willing to spend time with him. Not sure how exact that is. A man and a woman can be just friends (I mean, right??? :lol). I think she was just curious and probably is still married. We parted ways w/o bad feelings, as friends. I'd show her picture but that wouldn't be appropriate. Plus Id be getting a bunch of "GO FOR ITs" Mighty fine looking 52 year old mama!
