I got my bed home from the shop today on the tow truck, a couple co-workers came to my house and helped me get it on the truck. The one thing I found out is my rear end is a bit narrow and I will need some offset rims damn it. But it's all good, tomorrow I will get a fender or two on.

Today I got the bed and fenders fully mounted for the move. I don't mind saying, when I stood back and looked at it with the fenders on I got a little verclempt, it's been 25 years since it was together like that! I really like the look, this makes me feel a lot better right now. I have a ton of pressure on me right now, and this made me feel a lot better. It's ready to go, now I can comfortably move on to other things that need to be done. Though now I find will likely have to get new rims for the rear that are offset to clear the bed and stuff I am so damn glad I got these rims and tires so I could have a roller. I lucked out and found them on craigslist, rims and tires bolted them on and done deal. If I would have had a blank check and ordered anything I wanted it wouldn't have been different, they look so good and getting the job done holding it up off the floor. Brian |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
today was a good day. im not sure why or how everything fell into place but it did. after a long but smooth day at work I got home and the a/c fitting I ordered yesterday in on my porch. how crazy is that? less than 24 hours

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Got a few things bolted and tied to my truck to haul it to my new life. Last day at work, after 18 years (and one week) it was NOT easy. The guys took me out to a wonderful lunch, I would never get alcohol on a work day, they all insisted including the boss. I got a "Cadillac Margareta." LOL Yeah, that was good!
So hard to leave, I cleaned out my tool box and gave the empty box to a young guy looks like he has some passion for the work. Yep, it was a good day. Brian |

Got a bunch of stuff in the cab for the move. Tied it all in with those giant wire ties that Harbor Freight has. My brother had a good idea of throwing a bike chain or cable around stuff with a lock on it. I removed one of the tail gate bolts and put a lock and even through a cable over the bed and around the frame so the bed couldn't be taken. I did this because stuff being stolen from towed cars OR the whole thing being stolen is very common on towed cars while you are at a hotel. I am not sure if I will be able to drive the whole way, 10 hours. I did it once and it kicked my butt. After loading that truck, I am thinking I won't be able to do it. So a hotel may be in the horizon and I figured I would throw a few locks on it so it would be safer.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
not a bad idea to lock all that stuff down. but whats wrong with a 10hr drive? I just did seattle to sacramento in 12.5 And it didn't bother me. but it wasn't in a u haul

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I may do the whole thing, as long as I leave early enough. Believe me, I did a 17 hour once going up to Oregon from my house here in the SF bay area to get my kids once. But I was much younger then!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
When I was attending college in Saskatchewan I would occasionally make the drive from western Oregon in one shot - about 19 hours. When they reduced the national speed limit in the 1970s it added 2 hours to the drive - 21 hours.

I’ve been having trouble with shutting my passenger door. So I replaced the aftermarket latch with a NOS latch. It works so good I wish I would have done them both

Painted the underside of my fenders black today. Nice to look in there and not see grey primer anymore. Another one of those things that would have been easier while the fenders were off, but back then I was in a rush to get the truck driveable so I just bolted them on.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Stuff is still out there! I have NOS latches, strikers and handles.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Well today I listed my truck for sale :-( I live so far out in the sticks that it's just an ordeal to take it anywhere so it just sits in the garage. And car shows always start too ridiculously early in the morning to attend. Seems like the same pattern I always follow - build a car then sell it. I'd really rather keep it, but if someone brings the cash...

What I do is click on the "advanced" button next to the "Search" button on Ebay. I then search out using really basic words like 1950 chevy truck NOS. I then go down to the "Sort by" button and click on "Newly listed." Then save that to my favorites. Of course you need to put 1947 1948 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1954 1955 in the year and then save them all. So now you will have a quick click link to these newly posted auctions (or buy it now of course) items that are only NOS for your truck. You click on each one of these every morning and you will see that stuff that was just posted within a day. Often they are buy it now, and wham, you get your treasures! So every day you will come up with something like this. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...+1950&_sacat=0 Not very exciting but scroll through and you may find something! I have found so much NOS stuff like this it's crazy, for my '59 Rambler a brand new steering wheel for $75 and a horn button for $15. It's fun to see what's there every day. Brian |

Here's a door latch.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1947-19...ss!94538!US!-1 I added "door" to my search, and this came right up. You can do that too, put something like door in the search and it leaves it wide open for all door parts. If you put door latch then ALL you will get are auctions with those two words, where you never know someone could spell latch wrong or put "lock" instead or something goofy like that. But if you put simply door, then you will get everything with door in it, and if you do the "newly listed" and you check it every day, you won't get thousands of auctions you will see the ones just listed. Here's a door lock :D https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1947-19...0AAOSwJytdKk5W Brian |
