https://cdn.sparkfun.com//assets/par...0/08619-01.jpg http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/...ulb-For-RV.JPG seen people break stock fittings of lightbulbs and soder a bleu led with a resistor in series to that |

I haven't had any time to touch the truck the rest of this week. Today my sons were out with me and were wanting to help out. So I gave them their new flash lights. Then I look out and see both of them under the longhorn. Then the youngest comes in the garage and asks for some paper towels. he wanted to clean under the truck. I said have at it! It looks like I have 2 truck nuts for sure.

That's quite the crew!

Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes
They will probably end up with more dirt on them than the paper towels but they will love it. :)

Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes
I hope they don't decide to change the oil without telling you. Glad to see them showing interest in vehicles and what you do. Keep up the great work.

No new progress on the truck. It has a battery drain issue now and I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is. I noticed after I reinstalled my rh inner fender that my external voltage regulator was very warm. I didn't think anything of it until after I found the batteries dead. Apparently if you unhook the ground wire and apply power to this type of VR, you will short it out and it will draw power. Oops. Hopefully it didn't hurt the alternator. I have a new VR I need to get installed on it and charge the batteries before it freezes and ruins the batteries. I might have to do this tonight.
I haven't had time to work on it because I've been rebuilding an engine for a board member. I'm really close on it now. I'm waiting for the injectors to be finished, and I hope to fire it off on Friday. Then deliver it Sunday and pick up another head ache. I mean project. |

Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes
I got enough done on it that I have been driving it some. The trans controller has to be sent back and reprogrammed. For some strange reason at slow speeds, the controller says it's seeing 50-67mph wheel speed when the gps says 10-15mph and tries to lock the torque converter. Not cool. I took it off and installed some toggles switches. I still have plenty to do to it but I have too much other work to do too.

I've been daily driving this for a week now. I've put 500 miles on it and it is getting 16.8-17.5mpg. No real issues so far. The lower coolant tube was leaking Monday, and I have a weird thing going on with the RH turn indicator on the DD cluster. I'm not sure if it is the flasher or what yet. It runs really good. I had a Dodge that wanted to play last Friday but he didn't have enough. This truck will be a ticket getter. I need to get the cruise control put on it. :mm: Here are some pics of it from this past weekend.

Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes
Thanks guys. I've been using it as a truck lately too. Hauling a new to me cabinet, scrap, and even a 7.3 psd block. no, it wasn't scrap! I hauled 10 mounted semi wheels and tires too. Those were work putting in the bed.

Here's a pic of the 24v I'm building now. It is a beast. Colt Stage 4 cam, ported and polished head, ARP rod bolts, and head studs, 160hp tuned P-pump with a 4k kit, 7x.010 injectors, and a pusher intake. When the owner can swing a better turbo, it'll be an animal. I finally got around to installing my license plate lights. I'm satisfied with these other than the wires are ultra thin. You have to be real careful hooking them up. I got them from LMC if you're looking for some. |
Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes
Nice lights! The LED light I used had like a 32 gage wire I don't even think there was 2 strands, they could use slightly stronger wire.
