This place is just shy of an acre which is fine with me. That's plenty and my other place is a 1.5 ?? acre lot. I think. So I have plenty of room for more junk. I don't want too much land because it's too much upkeep. I haven't heard from escrow in two days so I think the green light is on. I'm just waiting for the keys. I'm like a kid before Christmas waiting to tear into his presents. |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
My wife and I moved the rest of my daughters stuff into her new house this morning. She is coming home from Italy on Monday so we hope to have the place in good shape when she gets home. We will finish painting the kitchen tonight and clean up for the rest of the weekend.
Unlike Paul's deal this one took forever. Her offer was excepted in October and she closed in January. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Congratulations on the new house Paul. Congrats Tim on reconnecting Tim. I've been with my reconnecting for about 12 years now.

Worked on the draft control for the old woodstove . I got the backer plates made up for the fire bricks . Now it’s just a matter of sanding and painting the the stove itself . I did go to wide one one of the air slots but I’m just going to put a couple of weld beads on the edge to fix it tomorrow. 5/16 inch plate does a number on the drill bits I did drill about 40 holes .

So this week I spent another 8 hours (4 hours per day) helping a local body shop with a 76 Ford 150 (I know the horror) sanding "poly" sanding filler. Tell you what it gives the shoulders a good work out.
Next week sanding primer. Yippee. |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I spent the day grinding the faux wood sticker off the dash of my Bug. It's been in there since the 70's and somebody must have been smoking a lot of dope if they thought that looked good. :smoke:
I used one of those rubber wheels and it took most of it off but there's old glue left and I've got to take the knobs and the windshield out to really finish it. Not a problem because I'm replacing those. I'm replacing almost everything because everything is shot. I'm gutting the car to a shell for paint. Everybody out of the pool. But what a mess. I didn't think such a small car could have so much crud in it. My shop vac is wheezing. But I like tinkering with it at my own pace. :) |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
we got to know each other really well were good friends. It's a good chance she was just curious, if she's still married. I'll know in time. I'm taking it nice and easy*
* Watch me come back next week with both nostrils wide open ranting all this crazy in love talk! I've been taking advantage of this milder weather and have been re-glazing the windows in the sunporch. They'll be ready to paint before flowers come up. I had bought these all wood single pane dbl hung windows new when I built that room. I've patched up the glazing here and there but this time it's remove it all and replace it all. I had two broken panes and had new panes cut. Getting into it I've broken, I think, 9 more scraping the old glaze out. Turns out they didn't use points to set the glass. They just glazed the glass in. Once I scraped enough glaze the glass got a bit loose off the wood and would flex when running the scraper across it. $4 a pop. I made three trips. All done now |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Getting that stove mighty nice. That wind is roaring! I sold a pair of skylights mid-morning. The buyer needed flashing made and I agreed to make it for extra money. But I wanted to wait for the buyer to actually show up. First reason was make sure he showed up and second was I wanted to make sure we both were thinking the same since he still had to frame for it.
He showed up and once I was ready to make up the flashing kits he paid me and said, "I'll be in my car" It was a cold sumbugger out there! |

His Timberline sounds like a good shop stove. I'm sure appreciating my renewable heat source on this blustery cold night. It's not a green energy source, it's seasoned

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Tore out a fence panel and gate post, and set a new post. Well, the son did, and I helped. I was just the gopher, but my back hurts anyway. The old fence panel and gate were cedar fence pickets, rotted out after 20 years. The nerve. New gate and panel are welded angle iron frames with 2X6 con heart redwood. They'll last until long after I'm dead! Still waiting for the to concrete to kick. I'll get a pic when the fence panel and gate are installed.

Fast forward to 2021 and I went to a yard sale a couple of miles from that town and this lady had an old Birmingham stove. As I stared at it, she told me that for the last 20 yrs, it was a brooding vessel for her chickens. And, it used to be in E B Thompsons grocery and her Dad left it to her. I had to buy it. I restored it and will eventually use it. |

I always said when I get old I'm going to be one of the old guys sitting around the general store potbelly telling stories. I'm getting there, but I'm not sure how Dollar General will feel about it
I like that parlor stove. I had one similar in my bedroom when I rented a farmhouse with no heat. I like the end-loaders. Just slide the sticks on in. That's how my stove is |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I went to the DMV. One of the perks of living in a small town is that I was the only customer there. I guess I did do a little to my 70 CST. I finally registered it. Cost a lot because I told the truth of what I paid for it. But I also got my disabled plates. So it's official now. I am officially disabled in the eyes of the state of California. Maybe they'll give me a break on my taxes now. Probably not. More like definitely not. But I do get the good parking spots now.
I took my walker because I have trouble in that parking lot and knew I'd be standing a while. I got the paperwork going on the green Bug and the Jag. I had the wrong papers. Funny how nice people are to you when you have a walker. I had a lady open the door for me. I should have tried this one years ago before I got jacked up. People treat you nice. :) The camber on my truck looks funny in the pic. But I just checked it and it's fine. Just a trick of the light. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...bled_plate.jpg |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I have one like your second picture I used in my shop in a barn. A pole building with corrugated tin on the roof and walls. I spanned pipe between the walls and laid blue plastic tarp across at about 8' high. That antique stove might not have been efficient, but I could work on a cold winter day in there wearing just a t-shirt. Not a stitch of insulation in there and daylight shining through gaps and nail holes, and a concrete slab.

Yeah Tim
them stoves are highly sought after,, forget what I got out of mine ,,it did leak smoke out the cracks it got from getting red hot from previous owners ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, here is another stove I put in my house along with building the alcove that went out from my living room wall into my garage for the stove safe place to be incased with concrete below ,on the sides and top . Now to keep this thread to what it is meant for ,, the other day I rolled my infared 220 volt hearter out and worked on my snow blower carberator.. great heat if you dont want to heat the whole garage up when the job you are doing is only couple hours Attachment 2257452 Attachment 2257453 |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
That looks great, Larry! What really got my attention was the misery whip, great piece of wall art.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
That is a great looking stove Larry. My wife keeps nagging me to put a better looking one in but the one we have works just fine. Hey if it aint broke. If she starts talking about it I turn on my "selective' hearing. I don't hear her. :)
Today I paid my homeowners insurance on the new place that I haven't even moved into yet. Insurance companies do not like you if you live in a fire and flood zone. They didn't like me $3,387.00 worth of not liking me. Nope. Not a cheap date. If I could cuss on here I'd say something that rhymes with duck. |
