Getting the hinge on w/o scratching the paint is the easy part. Putting the spring on and not damaging the paint with what I want to know.

Did you adjust the hinge location so that the hood closes correctly? If so, did that scratch any of the paint around the hinge on the inner fender?

I figured y'all might ask. It took 2 people to do it, so we didn't get any pics during the process. I have not had the hood on yet, so I haven't done any adjustments yet. Here is the tool that I use to do the springs. I put the foot where it is in the pic. I worked the bar and Shannon worked the chain to keep control of everything. It works really nice, but my headlight mount panel was removed.

No progress on my side of the fence tonight. I went over to help Shannon set his cab on his frame.

Still in jury duty. :waah: They said expect a long day tommorrow 8 a.m.-midnight. Trying not to run into the weekend. I did meet another jury member that had some mouldings and emblems for old chevys. He said he had no use for them and brought them to me today. I saw a couple 3100 emblems in the bucket. I was hoping to get a pic, but ran out of time.

Shannon and I did get the 55 running last night. Just have to fine tune the timing and carb adjustment.

Hi Alan, Again Nice work.
Reading your thread again starting at post 2370, during the mock-up of the fuel filler door, What year and model donated the green fuel door? Was that a random choice or is a perfect fit of the body lines Also what O.D. is the filler pipe off the tank? I bought a RCI 17 gallon cell from summit and will be modifying the fill pipe to turn out as I would like to have a outside fill door. Your metal skills are outstanding , I will have to recruit a body man relative . Thanks-- bubba

Thanks Bubba, it was a random choice of square doors. The round ones didn't jive with the body lines IMO. I believe it came from a 99 ford ranger, but not 100% sure. The OD of the filler pipe on the tank is 1.5", but I will need to remeasure unless Shannon chimes in. I know he remembers. I'm concerned that the fill pipe from the door is a little small. I forsee splash back when filling. Maybe not, the fill pipe will be vented so maybe everything will work out.

No progress tonight working on the 55.

Shannon and I got the rear brakes done last night. Had to redo the Rt side again, because I failed to read the instructions that reminded me the right hand thread went on the left and the left hand thread self adjuster went on the right drum. I had two new ones, but they were both right hand thread, that's why it didn't even cross my mind.

Alan, I love digital cameras and take lots of pictures before I tear stuff like brakes apart then I can look to see how they go back together if they will be apart for some time. Then I read the manual .
I found on my truck's rear brakes the shoes were installed wrong by P.O. and the shorter shoe was in the rear position on the passenger side.

I wish that I had taken a lot of pics during tear down, but I didn't. Now I take too many. haha When I put the brakes on the 55 someone on the forum pointed out to me that had the shoes on backwards. I love all the great help we get on this forum. It had been a while since had had dones brakes. I used to do them a lot for people in the service at the hobby shop on base. It's been 20 years since I had done brakes.

Call it beginners luck or what ever, but I got the fan shroud made today. I couldn't have ask for anything better. As we all know I have limited experience with custom fabrication. To me this was complex due to exact measurements. I don't know if I would have the same luck if I made another. Here are the steps I took.

Ran out of time today. This is where it is at now. Still need to make the top and bottom caps and cut the hole for the fan then test fit. Hope it clears the engine.
