This truck has been a blast in the summertime...as soon as the temp hits 55F, the top comes off and doesn't go back on until early November. When the snow flies, the beast comes back out for some fun and then immediately back to the garage until the slop goes away.

i'll post better pics soon.

hey guys, brand new to the site and thought i'd share some pics of my recently aquired '68 gmc 1500. I did a straight trade to a guy because his old lady wanted my '97 lexus sc400. I think i made out to be honest. Anyway, always loved these trucks but could never afford one (a decent one) when i was in high school. I always drove the next generation trucks (73-87) when i was in high school, but i finally got the truck i always wanted. I plan on redoing the interior, it looks good in the pics but its an older job and i'm not a fan of the full length custom door panels. Also am going to add an a/c kit to her (any suggestions/opinions on the various kits out there and helpful hints when installing? :) ) and finally i want to convert her to disk brakes in the front (again, suggestions/opinions/hints, i will not be doing a big, high performance upgrade though, i just don't see the need. I will not be racing her). As for a couple smaller upgrades, i think i may add power windows to her with the fake window crank handles as the switches and convert the headlights to hids (it has already been converted to bulb style halogens, any suggestions on the hid kit, i know its possible to burn up the wiring with these and i certainly don't want to do that). A little more about her before i post the pics, i'm told the body job is about 4 years old and they did a really good job. The rockers, rocker backings, and cab mounts have all been replaced, but very nicely. You can't make out the welds and in the rockers you can barely see where they cut and spliced it. They also took the time to rubber undercoat everything underneath once done. The floors were not replaced as it was not necessary, i believe due to the next couple facts. She was originally a texas truck i am told and spent most of her life there. She also has just under 80,000 original miles. Documented on the title. The title also states that she was originally a v8 truck (probably a 327), i can decipher that from the vin, but other than that and that it's a 2wd, 1/2 ton, i can't get much else; what can you guys make of this part of the vin (serial number replaced with "xs" of course :) ): Ce10dpbxxxxx i'm told its engine is a 400 small block (hence the emblems) but yes i do know these did not come with 400 small blocks and that the emblem refers to a big block 396 that was the stock big blocks in these i believe. Just happened to work out for the previous owner's choice of engine. I will try to get the numbers off the block to positively id it. There is some debate about the transmission as well. It was originally an automatic and still is, but the guys at work (who are pretty versed in old vehicle parts even more so than myself) can't agree on if it's a 350 or 400 turbo. I'm not a transmission guru myself, so any pictures for pointers on how to indentify these easily would be appreciated as well. Finally, i have no idea if the rear end is still stock, but i do know she will spin the tires very easily if asked to (i found out accidentally when just trying to "goose" her a little :) ). Ok, without further rambling, here she is:
