Re: What did you do to your truck today!

My old trusty fuel pump gave up Friday after many faithful years of reliable service. It was born in the spring of '98 on the East side of Las Vegas. It spent it's entire life dutifully working on a '69 Chevy C-10 outlasting two engines, and countless other parts, too many to mention. All was fine until that fateful day when with an enormous eruption of motor oil and gasoline that it announced it's demise. It is survived by among many other components it's closest friends, The Carburetor, and The Fuel Tank to both of which it was closely attached. There was a private service in the garage after which the remains were recycled.

Because of all of the fuel that polluted my motor oil I had to change it also. Last Fall my A/C compressor seized. Tucker Parts where I purchased the kit replaced it on the spot without any questions. I've always received great service from them. I wasn't in any hurry to install it with months of cool weather ahead, but with temperatures in the ninety's expected next week the time was ripe to put my air conditioning back together. When I was lubing the truck I found a bad outer tie rod end, and replaced it as well, and also put new bushings on my sway bar. Many of the parts I replaced nearly fifteen years ago are really starting to show their age. Some of these have a whole lot of miles on them. They don't last forever, but it all proves what an incredibly reliable truck these are.

Drove the GMC to work three days last week. Today, washed a couple of trucks, took some pictures and put them down for the night.

I finished up my 4 speed swap Saturday, knowing I'd have to pull the driveshaft again to replace the U joints, I had to make the rear section of the driveshaft to mate it to the 10 bolt. I spent a couple hours at the junkyard trying to find one the length I needed with no luck so some work with the grinder and chopsaw and welder and I was in business. The carrier bearing looked to be pretty decent still so wasn't too worried about it. Drove it to church yesterday morning then out to eat and to the parts store to pick up the U joints and rear brake shoes. Dropped my wife off at the grocery store and ran to get gas, that's when it happened, the carrier bearing seized and spun the rubber out of it. Limped it to home as it wasn't slapping around too much till later. Took it out and beat off the old bearing and called it a day. After my morning class today I stopped and picked up a new carrier bearing. Got in this afternoon from my bus route and got the new front U joint in and the new carrier bearing on and put in the front section of driveshaft. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the the other two U joints in and the rear shaft back in the truck. I love the truck with the 4 speed now! Next is replacing the rear brakes. Then I'll move onto new rockers and cab corners!

I got my radiator support and radiator installed today. I bought an Entropy radiator with 1.25" tubes...man, that sucker is huge. It just fit (tightly) into the 4 row core radiator brackets. My truck is starting to look like a truck again.

A local guy that restores these old trucks stopped by for a while. We went over to the shop and looked at my '67 cab on a swb '69 frame and talked about how I can fix some rust issues.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Yesterday I took the truck for a little cruise. I quickly found out that it has become a fair weather pansy! After about 20 miles in 95* weather things got a little heated. 215 on the motor, and 210 on the trans. This simply will not fly!

I came home a little irritated, removed the grille, and installed two plate style tranny coolers.

Today, I ordered a high volume water pump, a 6 blade 19'' fan, super duty fan clutch, and a build it yourself aluminum fan shroud. I added to the order, a selection of high flow thermostats.

This truck will be able to cruise in 118* with the air on full blast! If this won't fix it, I am building a new motor, that is not .060 over!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Added power steering to my 70 C10. A previous owner had installed a 350 out of a van and it still had the power steering pump, so I just had to get the correct hoses and a gearbox. Picked up the gearbox over the weekend when I went to pick up a pair of CST doors that I found on Craigslist. Surprisingly easy conversion! Now I just have to figure out how to get my steering wheel to sit straight when the wheels are centered....

Took my truck on a cruise for the 1st time since new years. Didn't realize how much I missed cruising the old truck till I took off from a stop sign and lit up the tires in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear and didn't straighten out until I was doing 60 MPH.

Hated the wood grain steering wheel that came with the truck, and don't have the extra 450 for a billet steering wheel so I figured I'd give this a try and painted it the same color as the truck... Not to sure on how I feel about this

Last night I worked on fabbing up my 3" exhaust (with an X pipe). Man I wish I had a lift. All that trial fitting, crawling under and out over and over. That 3" takes up alot of room but I got it all tacked together and pulled out to finish up the welds...and then ran out of wire! Grrrrrrr...:dohh::cuss::m6:.

I stopped by paint shop and he was painting my bumpers, I will be painting back side tomorrow and then bolting them on. Spent time glass beading my mag wheels and hope to have them mounted tomorrow. Painted inner fenders and bumper brackets today. I am still waiting for a shipment from LMC which will deliver the fuel sending unit and then I can start truck saturday morning. I grounded the bed , cab and radiator support andf fixed water leak on block. I think i will have it ready for car show on 22nd.

Got a parts truck for my '69 over the weekend, so I spent the other night taking the front end of that apart. Did a little spot welding to cover up the side marker lights on the right bedside. BTW 74baggedbug, love that color. Never was much a blue fan till lately, but that's a beautiful shade of it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

The old battlewagon has been sitting a lot lately. Gotta get it ready for firewood, had to charge the battery to fire it up. Brakes have been on & off mushy (pedal going down too far, have to pump to get good pedal -- just part of the time). So I recruited my wife's help and we bled the fronts. Didn't notice any air in the lines (bleeders were both plugged though). Took it for a short drive and it's about the same.

Siggghhhhh...... didn't really want to pull the rear axles to bleed the back brakes.

The MC is just a few years old so I *think* it should be okay.

Well it wasn't today, but last Saturday I replaced a left rear wheel seal and the right rear wheel cylinder. Then on Tuesday the muffler blew apart. So it looks like this weekend's project will be exhaust work...

Test fitted my driver floor patch again after reforming the flange to the firewall. Sanded/ground/blasted the offending junk underneath the floor patch. Cleaned up the garage to park the wifes car inside incase there is some hail tonight. Hopefully no tornadoes in our city!!

PS looks nice bug!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I finished up with the new U joints the other day and have been driving it pretty regularly, actually daily LOL. I'm really pleased with the swap to the 4 speed and have probably ran the old truck a little harder than I should. I stopped to fill up last night at a gas station that was still 3.689 a gal before it jumped to 3.999 and checked my mileage. First fill up since transmission swap and new clutch, it went from 11.6 to 13.3. I'm hoping to get it in the 14-15 mpg range if I can keep my foot out of it! I know not much of an update, but the mileage gain really made me happy!

Bled the brakes after replacing the right rear wheel cylinder. Then took a test drive to the hardware store. Stopped at Ace first but couldn't find what I needed. Spent 10 minutes in the parking lot answering questions about my truck from a guy in a Jeep. Went to True Value and found what I needed. Spent 10 more minutes in the parking lot showing my truck to a guy getting out of a F#*d truck. I love my truck.

That is the kind of day most of us are waiting for when the build is so far along that it is lookin good and the questions come from all over, a few more months for me. Our area car show is the end of June, shooting for that.

I have been driving my Bagged C10 everywhere, and its the Same story for me. People love it...ask questions. Yesterday, I was doing a photoshoot with some models, and waitin for them to change clothes at a Target. While I waited, a young lady and her dad stopped by and asked permission to take pics of my truck. They loved it, and asked the usual questions: what color am I painting it (if at all), how do I Drive s o low, how much horsepower do I have, etc. Then there are the driving thumbs up. I love my truck
