I hung the headlight mounting panel tonight and dropped 2 bolts in the bumper. The headlights work hi/low. I figured out I have 2 pins crossed in the speedo pod. When I dim the head lights the gauge lights lite up and the headlight indicator comes on when the lights are turned on. oops. :lol: Minor fix. The headlights are bright as heck. I got an original bumper to fit, but this repop doesn't. It mainly has to do with the right rail where it was hit. A little work at the bolt should go right in. The upper radiator hose tbe is powder coated and installed. Just need a couple more clamps. Shannon ordered me a billet radiator cap and tested it to make sure it fit. If you notice next to the water neck is the temp sensor for the fan relay. I have to pick up ignition power. I really don't want to run a wire to the switch. I thought about tapping into the alt. if possible of the distributor ign feed. I could also come off of the choke. I can't fit another wire into the tubes along the valve covers. Ideas?? |

On this 396 in the 57 Panel I'm working on I installed the fan and temp sensor in a t-fitting because on this old intake manifold there was only 1 hole for the sensors. I hid best I could the wires down the front of the engine to the fan relay on the core support. Just an idea. Have fun. :lol:

Alan, I'm trying to figure out why you need power at that location. My temp sensor is a grounding source to turn on the fan, or complete the circuit, when the temp gets hot enough to close the switch in the sensor. Most sensor are just on/off switches to ground, at least the ones I've used on my vehicles. Your wiring kit should have a power wire in it for the fan. If you want I could get the wiring diagram I used for my fan!

If you use the diagram from Vinage Air you elimate the need to run power throught the temp switch. It pretty similuar but uses fewer wires... From the relay Pin 30 would go to a circuit breaker then to the battery or 12 volt source.
Pin 87 would go to the fans just as you now have. Pin 86 would have one wire to the temp sensor Pin 85 would have one wire to the 12 volt ignition on/off. You could add an optional on by adding a wire from Pin 86 to the ac compressor wire some where not on the engine in the wiring someplace. You would need to check you wiring diagram to see where you could tap into that wire.. Should be easy and no need to run a power wire back to the ignition switch By using the Vinage Air wiring diagram you don't need the 30 amp fuse in the fan circuit but do use a 40 amp circuti breaker in the 12 volt battery supply circuit.. Circuit breaker makes it better if the fan should ever over draw the dircuit it would kick out then reset in a few minutes giving you time to save the engine from overheating due to a blown fuse. Just my thoughts. |

Alan , I just went to Napa an ask for a temp switch that turned on at 190, Real cheap and easy.
I figured that I wouldn't need the compressor switch since anytime the engine gets to 190 the fan would come on anyway.. Some add an additonal fan to come on when the ac compressor is on for the extra insurance to keep the engine cool during slow( parades,etc,) driving. May be needed may not. depends on how good your cooling system is setup. I acually used the triary switch setup, a little more complated but a safer system for the ac.. If I had it to do over I would probably go with the binary system to give some protection to the compressor and keep the wiring simplar. |

Here is the controler I used on my jeep to control the fan at all times. I really like it as it gives you adjustable temp control for the fan, compressor turn on for the fan, and run after ignition shuf off to cool the raditor and engine, and has only one wire to the engine and thats to the compressor. Very simple and very compact and very easy to install.. Only 79.95 plus shiping... Brian is an engineer and designed and builds these.. They will handle any fan you may wish to use even the heavy amp draw mark VIII fan many of us jeep owners install to cool the engines.

I still have to do the sides. Then i will guide coat and block with 120. If all is good I will buzz over with 180 and apply the slick sand. |

You should make alittle movie of when you turn the key for the first time. Even if it does'nt start the first time. Be sure and get a close up of your face. Maybe a big fat chew in and a pinner hanging out.

man alan, when i clicked on the video and heard it running i just got a big grin on my face, lol!! great video, finding the leaks are just part of the progress! i think you'll be done before summer get here and the rate your going!! i think i got another year on mine before its road ready!! keep the videos coming, there better the pictures, lol!!

I'm such a tard sometimes. When I fired it and it ran for a while I noticed the cooling fan didn't come on. I jumped it and later found that there wasn't any power coming from the fuse block to the relay on the radiator support. I wish I would have paid attention before, because the fuse panel has a fan relay built into it. In the schematic the right 2 terminals are for the for the fan relay. The green is the ground. At this point I'm going to ground the relay in the cab and just use the relay out front. Since it can move under it's own power, I pulled it outside and gave it the first official bath. Of coarse I took some pics as well. |
