Nice body work!!!
Well my task this week included less finesse than body work LOL... Used a hand grinder to cut transmission cross member from my '61, helped tons in getting the motor out ....Needed the rm any way to put my 350 tranny in :metal:, oh yeah and of course I removed a the clip to do all this detail work  el_bole |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished up my rear suspension today except for the track bar which is on it's way. I still have to order and install a new center crossmember to raise the trailing arms but at least it's back on 4 wheels for now. Brakes are probably next. I pushed it out of the garage and washed it up a bit before starting the next phase. Here are a few pics. I also borrowed member Frizzle Fry's idea for relocating the rear shocks. It worked out great. Thanks Friz for the idea.

That being said, I recently realized I STILL have to rotate it back in order to paint with the gravity-fed HVLP sprayer. I think I'll try suspending the cab next time. |

Thats funny u r interested in the fender and headlight! I just officially inherited that car that the fender is attached to LOL...It was my Dad's '55 Olds, Delta 88 to be more specific....Asking $6,000,If I had the resources I'd rat rod it out and put some bags on it but thats what I got my 61' for Right:smoke:?. Here's a couple pics... |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I replaced my stock steering wheel with a Chevy Lumina wheel that I got at the junkyard for $20. It's much more comfortable for me and doesn't look too out of place. I can't really see the speedo that well because it's a smaller diameter and thicker grip but that's no big deal. Right?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
So Frizzle Fry and pdxhall, tell me about the shock relocation on the rear. I'm getting ready to order a 5 inch lowering kit for my 64 short stepside, which includes shocks and relocating brackets etc. I like the way that setup you have there looks.

today i put a used chrome bumper and a sanded down steeel grill on my truck to see how straight they are....answer is they are straight enough. i will continue to sand the grill until i go through all the grits and have all the scratches out...then clear coat. i'm not sure how to get the scratches out of the bumper without destroying the chrome so i will prolly get some weak acid and treat the areas that are brown get it as shiny as i can and clear coat it too. any better suggestions that a re cheap or free are welcome. i'm poor and i will not be buying anything new for a very long time. i actually traded my painted bumper and twenty bucks for the chrome one. i'm looking for an oem radio and an oem auto steering column by the way

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
You could try some Hapitch semi-chrome polishing paste with a buffer worked purty good on mine. I think the paste is still under $10. What your doing looks good so far good luck....Vernski:lol:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Wasnt all today but I have removed the rusted out rocker panels measured and almost ready to remove and replace all of the passenger front floor board, outer rear floor board, cab corner, front cab piller supoport, cab support, inner and outer rockers.
Also waiting on a sand blasting kit to arrive so I can make sure exactly what metal is good to keep and what isnt. The PO decided that instead of replacing rusty floors he would go ahead and fill everything with bondo and that would do just fine. So on top of removing rusty pieces I'm having to decide what is metal and what is Bondo'ed rust. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Pulled the next project in the shop, a 65 LWB, we are going to slam it, leave it patina'd pulled her in, cut the bolts that held the bed on, and removed the running boards........man does that look better........
Backing it in the shop: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/65-C..._fg2LMwh-XL-LB A LWB fleetside will fit in the shop: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/65-C...5_CXhFn49-A-LB It looks better without those running boards: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/65-C...2_zCRJTN2-A-LB Cut the bolts that held the bed on, the wood is a little worse for wear: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/65-C..._3QTSPxZ-X2-LB |

got a little sanding done on my hood today. I can't believe the P.O. sprayed that nasty primer over the beautiful factory paint. I'll bet she had some awesome patina before.....years in the high sierra desert will do that.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Changed the old oil thats been it it for 7 years while it sat in a guys back yard.
Put in new halogen headlights so I could see when I drive it. Took off the boat anchor back bumper that was on it, thing weighed a ton. Scraped all the decals and crud off the back window. Removed an add on air conditioner that didn't work and cleaned a bit under the hood. Just bought this 64 C10 and am fiddling around with it like a kid with a new toy. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Stripped the top-end off my engine and began cleaning up the wiring harness. Bought copper tubing and header wrap to re-route the heater "hoses" and fuel line. Tucking any visible wires and hoses down and out of sight (except top/bottom radiator hoses, of course). The new intake manifold is going in tomorrow... Before and after pics coming soon.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
got the new 2.5" drop spindles installed, how do you like the new stance ?
New stance: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G..._9qGFfrc-X2-LB Old stance: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...6_c5FVJVM-A-LB Looks like the sun is coming back out, will clear her up and take her back over to the route 66 park and take some of the same shots with the new stance....that will be a better way to compare them. The first dreary shot of the gmc dropped does not look as good as the shot by the train due to lighting...... |

Looks Great! Did you lower the back as well, or just the 2.5 spindle drop in the front?
