Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Chains are a thing of the past here. There are no requirements and I never see chains in use, except county plow trucks if it's really bad. We have marked snow emergency routes, but that's mostly about side of the road parking forbidden. But proper tires are required as well. I know people who use them in the back country. They get the roads cleared so fast here they don't want drivers tearing up the bare hiways. I'd rather put chains on than have my vehicles rot. If they didn't melt the snow off and only plowed we'd have a lot more people staying home who can barely drive on clear roads

I haven't done that but I can see how it would be effective.
I think the last time I put on chains was for snow, when our DD was a 2WD Astro van.
So, prior to 1995 when we bought the Grand Cherokee.... 28 years ago.
 Egads, where does the time go??

Good thing! I'm sure she would have left you if you had. There are better ways to hang on to a wife, but you already know that

They used to use chains on the school busses around here. Now they just cancel school.

My Dad always used chains. I have not seen them around here in years.

Madam Zelda uses chains. Whips too. I call her when I've been a bad boy.

Chains are still the best for deep snow and ice

A big ole snow plow will get you stuck out in the super heavy deep stuff.

You have to plow with the storm not after it’s done. Four or five years ago we had that massive storm that dumped 3+ ft of snow I plowed at least 5 times during the storm .

Yes, that's how you do your own lane. But when the road crews can't plow until a blizzard of 30"+ snow ends a plow man is stranded from his contracts. Will get stuck if he tries to make his way. I used to contract plow and had to travel to my jobs. Even in a tall truck the plow would deter travel. Carrying the plow unmounted would be my best bet, but bed was full of Urea. If it was only one site I had to plow I would have gone in advance and wait it out. I charged a flat price per site per 3-4" of snow. An 8" snow, even on lots I only hit at 8" one time, got billed double. but the idea was hit at every 3-4. Hard to do with multiple sites. Plowing at 8" is double the wirk and double the stress on equipment, I'd often have to argue.

When we had back to back 30"+ snows, 1 day between, I had my driveway cleared, 8' banks on both sides (hand shoveled), and was left waiting another day for the 5'+ on my road to be plowed. When I had my plow, me and the dairy farmer across the road would plow the road ahead of the county so the milk hauler could get in

Rebuilding a little yard trailer. Mounting new tires on 8” rims by hand is a pain! Got them on the freshly painted wheels along with new bearings. New wood floor and she’s ready to go back to work. I got this little trailer when my father in law passed away two years ago. It was the first thing we ever worked on together when my wife and I were dating - 30 years ago.

Well today

I dug this out of the ground where it has been sitting for 50+ years.

This was at a station were RC Cola took over the Coke business.

After communicating with friends.

I think it will become wall art for me.

Looks to be an old Coca Cola sign It must be aluminum to not be all rusted out after all those years in the ground. Very cool

Today I went to a little local swap meet and got a furniture dolly for 2 bucks. I'm gonna need that when I move. And I got a Craftsman toolbox that is loaded with sockets and wrenches for 50 bucks I thought that I did pretty good. That dang toolbox was heavy. I had my wife carry it.

I will have to check that out with a magnet.
I was very Surprised it was in the shape it is in.
It does have a couple of rust spots.
The pole that held it up is Galvanized.
It's not rusted either.

Glad you were thinking of your wife.
Next thing you know you will be buying her a vacuum cleaner

That's kind of like when the first summer we were married I bought a small push mower and when the wife came home I told her to come out and see what I bought her. She stepped out of the house and saw it and immediately turned around and went back inside without a word. Nope, she did not see the humor in that.

I actually did buy her a brand new vacuum. And she immediately hired a cleaning lady. The vacuum is still brand spanking new. So much for that.

It's hard to believe that RC got the edge over Coca Cola. Coke was fierce about cornering the cola market that's why memorabilia from the other brands is so valuable. Coke flooded the market with advertising and they are still #1. Although I like Pepsi better.

I saw RC cola in the market today. I haven't seen it in years. I used to drink it as a kid. I should have picked some up but it was pouring rain so I tried to get as little as possible in my cart so I didn't have to to it load up in the rain. Oh well. Next time.

I'll never forget waking up to cans of RC jumping around on the desk in my bedroom in the 1971 San Fernando earthquake. That scared the poop out of me I went running and my brother grabbed me and told me to stand in the doorway. That was my first big earthquake but I still run when the house starts jumping around. Earthquakes just rattle my nerves.

Depends on the wife I guess. Got my wife a new mower for Valentine’s Day two years ago and she loved it. Yeah, I’m the last of the true romantics. But, it was a 52” deck zero turn and no push mower.

It's a "Coca Cola button" sign . :chevy:

1947-1960s – The Coca-Cola Red Disc Since 1947, the Red Disc or “button” sign has been used to advertise Coca-Cola. The strong graphic image of the disc shape, became a cornerstone for outdoor signage. In 1948, the discs began to be hung inside a place of business as advertising and decoration.

Remember the MLB players on the RC cans back then.? I collected all but 4 or 5 and when I moved out, my Mom tossed all of them.

Did the annual Generac maintenance today. Not much to it, oil & filter change, check the air filter (good) and the battery (also good).
It has run 51.5 hours since last year's service, nearly all of that in the past month or so due to storms.

Yessir Dale, that was the idea when we made the decision a few years ago. We've survived power outages over the years but it looked like there would be more of them, and of longer duration.
Besides, we're not gettin' any younger, and we appreciate those creature comforts! ;)

Not today, but yesterday, I stopped in to Cooter's place outside of Luray, VA and listened to some stained glass bluegrass. Looked around the museum and got some ice cream. Me and my sister hiked up on Massanutten Mt. and needed to pee on our way back (well, she did). Pretty cool joint!

Stocker on your Generac FYI, if you ever get the "1505 RPM Sensor" code it's more than likely your battery.

I just went thru this a month ago and kept hitting dead ends "Call for Service" naturally, found this article put a battery in and VAROOM! Back in business, code cleared, and everything's normal again.
