1948 Chevy / S10

As promised here is the new truck thread. Instead of a 54 it is now a 48 on a S10 frame. It is my buddy Billy's truck. He put a c4 corvette IRS with bags and bagged the front too. He put a 5.3 and a 4L60 in also. The first picture is at ride height and the second picture is aired out. I did the sheet metal in it a while ago. I also made the body mounts. Now it is getting a custom floor, toe board, fire wall and a removable tranny tunnel. I am going to recess the brake booster and do the steering column install too. Sometime I will build a bed with mini tubs to clear the tires. Here are some pictures. As you can see I had my helper too. He loves to air it out!

AUSSIE54, Yes, getting 2 pieces of sheet metal tonight, a piece of 3/4 x 3/4 box tube and the seat pan to put back in. I should be making panels by the middle of the week.

Started on the trans tunnel tonight. I bent 3/4" box and welded it in, now I have to cut some 1" box and put between the back 2 cross supports. Then I can cut out the cross braces. The drive shaft does not move up and down because of the corvette rear. Next is to sheet metal the tunnel and the start on the floor. The floor will have the recessed panels like the floor on the 54 I did. It makes them a lot stronger. The front of the tunnel will be removable. I am also working on some belt line pieces also. Here are some pictures

Did not get much done this weekend. Spent part of the day working on some belt line pieces and looking for my male bead die. Some how I misplaced it. I was going to start working on the sheet metal part of the tranny tunnel but wanted to bead it. So tomorrow night I will be cutting the sheet metal for the floor and tunnel and if I can not find the die make a new one. So should have pictures of the floor this week.

G'day Shannon,
Beautiful work there mate. Although it appears that you've made a mistake, cause when I zoom in I see you've marked one of the pieces as pass which I'm assuming is for passenger side where as it really should be drivers side… or it would be on this side of the world. :)

Great work as usual buddy. Reckon you've earnt yourself a nice bottle of coke after all that fab work this week!

Regards,

Trently

Trently, Yes, for you it would be the drivers side. I would be all screwed up if I had to drive over there. I would be the idiot driving on the wrong side of the road with everyone blowing the horn and flashing the lights at me. HAHA

Here are the finished belt line pieces that I made. I ended up losing one of my bead roller dies so I had to make a replacement. Now back to the tunnel next week now that it is made. I must have looked for 4 hours. After the 4 hours of looking I decided rather than look any longer it would be quicker to make a new one. It was my dumb fault that I looked for that long. After the first hour I should have just stopped looking. It was driving me nuts though! And yes Trently they are backwards for you.HaHa

Looks very good! Can you take a measurement for me? I need a measurement at the very rear portion of the s-10 frame where the bumper attaches. I need a width across the frame. Trying to square up frame and welding in a rear crossmember.

Well hope everybody had a great holiday. Did not get much done, but today I figured I would put on my new grill on the panel. I have had it for over a year now and figured I wanted to put it on. I am going to work on the panel between Christmas and the New Year so I will do a build thread then. This week back to the floor so there will be more pictures.

Amazing what some shiny parts can do.... Looks great... Oh yeah it looks like someone is ready to take it for a ride...

britnjc, you are right. Thank You. And yes Garrett helped me and was driving it for a while. When ever I get it out he is always dressed and ready to be in it. I am hoping the 54 will be a father son project. When he is bad I always tell him I am going to take his bed and use it ( he sleeps in a full size 48 chevy bed with fenders, wheels, roll pan and working tail lights). I think he is already bitten by the bug!

I got some tubing cut and welded in tonight. I should be ready to start cutting sheet metal tomorrow night. Then be able to start paneling the floor like on the 54 I did. I will start by making the inner cab corners then work forward.

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10

britnjc, Thank you. If you need any more views let me know. I have a large piece of 3/8" thick rubber sheet that I use. I cut it about 4" x 4" rather than using the factory S10 rubber mounts.
