This a pretty wild story. I listed some parts on CL and 198Plus called me about my SWB step bed I had for sale. I told him about this forum and sent him a link to my build. He signed up and contacted me right away and said he was interested in me doing his truck.

Well, we met today. He is one cool dude. He bought my bed and a fender and left his other fender and doors with me. He told me of his experiences with bodyshops and it wasn't good. I'm sure he will chime in with more info.

It was his Dad's truck I believe and wants to make a nice original driver out of it for weekend cruises.

So for now I've got the bed, doors and fenders to work on and he will be bringing the cab in a couple of weeks. Here are some shots of what other shops have done to him. One shop swipped his good doors and gave these to him and not telling him. He said they were painted and all nice and shinny until further inspection. He had them blasted and this is what he found.

Alan, I just wanted to say thanks and it was nice meeting you.
I love the work you have done to your truck....Can't wait for mine to get finished it's been five years........Cough, Cough......Hope your working on mine LATE tonight......:lol:

Oh and by the way.......I can tell folks where not to take their truck too :banghead:

Even from a distance, look at the body lines on Alan's truck in the background, nice and tight and the reflection of the light is one straight line. Very nice job Alan!

I've seen this type of work all to often.It's really frustrating the kind of crap work that so many businesses put out. Then to top it all off they take their sweet time and charge for a quality job.

You don't have anything to worry about now that Alan is on the project. He does top quality work. ;)

Glad to see that you got some work, and it is not another miata...while looking at the pics, I was thinking the same thing about the doors, repops might be a better long term solution even though you can get these back in shape with your skills.

Welcome to the board, your truck is in good hands. When Alan gets yours done, that will be 2 trucks he has made progress on in a short time, really makes me feel like a slacker...

:haha: about the Miata. Super Chevy is in town this weekend 198 says he's going there to see what he can find. I hope I get to go to the show also.

I'm happy also. I want to do him a good job while working with his budget. We had a good conversation today about the doors. I think some better used doors or even new would be the lesser of the 2 evils.

Thanks Dennis, I guess I can work on mine when I get some downtime waiting on parts etc.

Tonight it took 2.5 hours to get the bed apart without destroying it. I had too torch 90% of the bolts and didn't mess anything up.:lol:

For those that might need to know this is where the rear sill welds to the inner panels. Fleets are the same. My fleet had a tack on the top of the sill also. This one didn't. Remember the bed is upside down in the pic.

I have to vote against the re-pop doors. Being that Im not paying, I want to see you really work those things over to get 'em straight:lol:....I'm sure we'd all learn a thing or two.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.........Thought I'd share a couple pics with y'all.

This is the first engine I built for it.........It's a 355 with a set of RPM heads 2.02 valves with 64cc.......Crane cam 488-510 LIFT, 234-244 @ 0.50 lift DURATION, 112 LOBE SEP. With a 30 spline 700R trans with 2800 lockup stall.

Had this all finished with new Hot Jet coated headers....And was sitting in my garage one night and said what the hell I'll put a Big Block in it !!!!!
