Re: 55-57 one piece windows

have you done that process of putting that in would it be easier just putting a one piece window compare to an electrical one piece window?

We put 1 peice glass in mine, dads, and gradpas trucks. No need to cut any extra holes in the door. I can send you a timplet for the glass if you like. and yes it's easier than rebiulding stock.

Re: 55-57 one piece windows

I used the brothers one piece power kit, and I am not happy with the fitting of the felts, etc. I know of another board member that used the brothers kit as well and has the same felt fitment issues. Possibly the specialty power kit is better.
I will have to do some custom mods etc. to make mine look good.

I would like a template. is this for power or manual?.. I would also like to see some closeup pictures of the felts, channels etc installed. where did you purchase the felts, channels etc.

Thanks

Re: 55-57 one piece windows

that is one of the reasons i didn't want to put the one piece window in i knew there would be a problem somewhere and i didn't want to cut my door so much that why i was asking if it easier putting a manual one piece window in and i would like a tem. as well.

Mine is power. That is why i asked blackdiesel if the ones he installed were power or manual...

Re: 55-57 one piece windows

My truck is power and dads and grandpas are manual. We bought the kit from brothers as well for dads. Didn't like it at all. It did not come with anything to hold the front of the glass (except the felt) in the front when the window is down. You have to make that yourself. And once you made that, you just take a stick of felt track and bend it to fit the door, put the glass in the OEM window regulator, and your done. I will send whoever wants the pattern, just send me your address. It will take me a week or so to do it. I have sent it off right now to have a set cut. It will be that long before I get it back. P.S. make it out of tempered glass, not lamanent.

I have Bothers kit also. Mine is power windows and the felt are just as you said "cheap" and my window rattle along with the windows don't follow the window channels as the window is rolling up. There's a guy with a 55 that I show at a show and he did his windows himself and used a much thicker felt on the bottom and his window went up into the window channels nice and straight with no rattling at all. I'm planning putting new bottom felts so they don't rattle so much. I hate rattles, it makes it sound like my truck is falling apart.

I'll pm you my addy. I was thinking i was going to have to go to a custom glass shop to have the fit i need. Could you post some upclose pics of the felts etc. I need to redo mine completely as the felts are out in some areas almost 1/2 in some areas in order to seal the glass...

I'm having new glass cut for grandpas truck, let a guy talk us into using lamanated glass. When I get the temperd glass in I will shoot a video of putting in back in and put it on youtube. how would that be?

Sal's '55 Chevy 10-07-2009 11:37 PM

Re: 55-57 one piece windows

that would be great if you do post it on youtube. i would like a temp. ill send you my address. So either way anyone goes their is a problem with all of them but yet its easier than restoring you originals, now would it be cheaper doing the originals?

Re: 55-57 one piece windows

The last set of 1/4" temperd side glass that I bought (for my 38 coupe) was close to the same size as ower trucks, costed around 50 bucks per side, the felt track cost around 20 bucks. I have bought this track at glass shops as well as at swap meets/car shows. It comes in 6' sticks. and the felt wipers that go on each side of the glass. All of it should cost 175 to 200 bucks.

Re: 55-57 one piece windows

Hi All,

So I've been reading up on this thread and had a couple of questions, it sounds like the power one piece window kit from Brothers is not the best out there. My question is, is it just the power kit or does the same hold true for the manual version as well?

Thanks,
Sam

Re: 55-57 one piece windows

I picked up the glass yesterday for grandpas truck. I plan on putting it in this weekend. I will get that video up soon. Dad and I put in brothers manual kit in his truck, and had to make an exrta part to make it work right. I can show and tell you better than I can type it. So if you can wait a little, I will try to show you what I know. Which might not be much help, but we have put in 5 sets of 1 piece glasses.

Thanks BD that would be great. Right now I'm no where near ready for the glass but I did remove my vent windows with the intention of putting in 1 piece units. I still have my vent window set up and I haven't cut anything out of the doors yet so I can still go back to stock at this point, just weighting the benefits of each one.

Thanks,
Sam

Does any company make a better kit than Brothers, are they the only game in town for 1 piece window kits?
