goona start start a build thread for my 67 GMC super custom short bed big back window. 327 th400 going pretty much stock. adding cargo lamp, power windows from a 66 buick, am/fm stereo and 8 track player and tilt. also adding a headliner to my cab. all 67-72 era stuff. cab was fairly good but floor was rusty and took a few panels that were beter condition from a parts 67. this will be slow going but will be fun. enjoy the pic's.

tryin to do most everything myself but finish bodywork in not something i have patience for or good at so i have to have a pro do that. $$$$. anyway havin my buddy powder coat the chassis and most of the black interior parts like the seat base, rear view mirror arm, pedals and mounting bracksts for most everything. absolutely everything will be replaced or refurbished as needed.

had to buy aftermarket bedsides. mine were toast. unrepairable in my opinion. bought them from wes at classic heartbeat. they fit very nice. wish i could get a new small letter gmc gate. managed to find a straight black one locally. again bodywork. $$$.

I orginaly painted the frame but was unhappy how it looked so i will get it powdercoated hopefully in the next month or so. all the other chassis parts are already powdered exept leaf springs. they will remain painted. will post pics as i start to reasemble.

the original 327. I had my original distributer remodeled and added a corvette style transistorized ignition. i believe this was a forerunner to hei and was available in 67 as a over the counter performance part for most chevys and pontiacs. i didnt want points but wanted a stock look.

truck originally came with speed warning and tach. i added the vacuum gauge. i purchased a regular kilo speedometer from member 68 50th in Sweeden. When i got it home i added my speed warning to the kilo cluster and this is what i ended up with. I added a 68 choke delete face. sent it and my gmc glove box emblem to chrometech usa to have it restored and chromed my glove box door. sprayed the glove box door with self etching black then bed liner and used a matching black finish on the cluster and glove box door so te color and texture would match.

i took a stock 72 am/fm mono radio and grouped it together with a multiplex from a late 60's buick. same one the power windows came out of. i now have a era stock looking stereo radio with 8 track. the red light comes on under the slide bar by the fm window when a stereo station is found. the stereo out of this is not like stereo out of modern radios. basically just added 2 more speakers. you can see where i added them on the kicks. used 67 chevelle speaker grilles to cover them.

few more pic's of where i am mounting the transistor ignition parts. on the bottom is a truck i parted about ten years ago. This truck has been my inspiration for this build. i love this color combo. this is the color combo this truck will be when finished. i am unsure on the white roof.

Fantastic work!

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Rod, I am subscribed. My kind of style. Like high optioned builds. I for one say no white roof. Also, do you need me to fab up the original style brace that ran from the 8 track player to the heater duct? Trevor

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Very nice build, I was wondering if you had one since I had not seen one from you yet. Looks like a lot of high quality parts and work on this one! I'll be watching.

it rained today so i rebuilt my fuel pump that was on my 327. had all the original bolts replated a while ago and used a kit that will work with modern day fuels.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I haven't had one of them apart since high school.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I really like this build and the more options the better, like to see the power windows, why did you not put in cruise?:gmc2:
|
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
i am putting in cruise from a 68. some pic's in post 19. the one option i thought that these trucks should have been available with is power windows as the cars of there time had them available. purists will hate on them but they will be a nice add on.

rained again today so had time to mess with the truck. I had 2 a/c vents from a 66 toronado and they have metal vent balls in them rather than the plastic ones the truck had so i decided to use them. When i took them apart i realised that they have baffles to turn down/off the single vent so i crafted those into my original vents. what do you think?
