Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
The short-term plan is to get it delivered to IL, and start working on getting my LS swapped into it, and getting it converted to 2wd. I have a whole pile of parts sitting around waiting to go in, including a Megasquirt MS3x, sumped aluminum tank from FuelCellGuy, and another 5.3 that's been warmed up a little bit to replace the 6.0L....for "testing" purposes.
The long term plan includes straigtening the body and putting a nice paint job on it, full custom interior with late model seats, full Porterbuilt front and rear suspension, vintage air A/C, nice wheels, a chromoly cage (for passenger protection, and to be legal for the dragstrip), and a kickin stereo. Can't wait to get it home and start messing with it. |

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Well, the project is a GO. Sold my street/strip BBC Malibu today, so I have a wad of cash to play with that's dedicated to the Blazer. It's already burning a hole in my pocket, lol. Also got word that the shipper will be picking up the 72 from Montana either tomorrow or sunday...should be here mid next week I guess!

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Wow, what a cohinkidink, I sold my red 1980 Malibu with a REALLY stinky solid cam 406cid and a 4spd a few years back; that pic made me flinch!

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Haha, that's awesome Tony. This thing was a thrill ride for sure...12.5:1 468, BIG solid roller, alum heads, t-braked TH400 with a 5500 stall and only 3000 lbs....but I have no time to race....boating and hot-rod building and spending time with my family take up all my time.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Well, the K/5 showed up last night....got her put into her new home :)
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...-13-25_984.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...618_183747.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...618_183609.jpg It's in better shape than I could have hoped for...it's all there, totally complete also. All the issues that I hated about my other blazer project are not present on this one. I am very excited to start from scratch, rather than undoing somebody else's "fixes". Hoping to fire up the pressure washer tonight, and get it good and cleaned up. |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Started working on it last night....pressure washed it under the hood, and got as much of the underside as possible. Gave the quarters and rockerboxes a good flushing...got a little mud/debris out, but nothing notable.
I *ALMOST* feel bad hot rodding this truck, by how original and complete it is. I ripped the interior out last night to get the nasty carpet and dirt out from the inside...everything is where it should be...and even with original bolts. Amazing. Pics to follow tonight after i can clean it out a bit more. Only found one small rust hole in the cab floor...on the passenger side, where there was some mud under the carpet. Not bad :) |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
I'll be watching this one forsure. Very cool starting point for the build...but an even cooler Premise for it. Family cruising, that is exactly why I bought my Blazer as my new addition wouldn't fit in the 55. She loves hot rods too, and gets pretty excited at the sound of dads truck. Do you plan on cruising topless most of the time? If you do.... you might want to start breaking it to your otherhalf that she will be riding in the back seat. LOL . Its way too windy in the backseat for your daughter in a car seat. When we go for a cruise my daughter is up front with me, mom gets the back. i can only imagine how windy it will be with a turbo ls

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Thanks LT155ruck...I love to take my family along with me...heck it's even fun to round up my buddys for a lunch run...lol
I appreciate the heads up regarding the little one in the wind. Won't know till we try, but I think she'll be ok. She has quite a few hours of seat time in our other "convertible" with less wind protection. She's usually out like a light as soon as we're on plane. ;) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...98040610_n.jpg https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos...11236629_n.jpg |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
It's amazing what 3000 psi and some elbow grease can accomplish.

I can deal with this...lol http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...2/IMG_4858.jpg |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Here's a spy shot of the bullet that's going back in it.
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...2/IMG_4865.jpg 5.3L LS9 Gaskets Speed Inc TU2 turbo cam Patriot Duals ARP Head Studs ARP Rod Bolts Mototron 80 lb/hr injectors Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT Megasquirt MS3x with 2 step, electronic boost control, progressive water/meth control etc etc. This thing better go at least high 10s, or I'm gonna burn it to the ground. |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
the engine looks amazing
fyi i am going to rescue that other one this weekend |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
LOL. No problem. Its amazing how they just seem to fall asleep anywhere. That was Truly an amazing find!! Gotta love rust free stuff! Great start for a fun project. Love to see more motor pics. Jason

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
I'll take some more pics of the motor as I put it back together. Planning to pour the coals to it...20 psi or more. Basically, crank the volume up to 11, run it till it scatters, back it down a notch, and put the 6.0 back in. Hehe.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
seats from a reg cab truck would be what your looking for. they fold forward. or out of a mid 90's etx cab with out the 3rd door as the pass seat shifts fwd to allow entry to the back.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
There is a 75 Blazer in the Tucson Az Craig's list that someone told me about, but I have not seen it, if anyone is into Blazers with 1/2 tops
