Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Might as well make my first post a big one huh!!!!
Well, since im new here figured I would drop ya a line and let yall see what I have been doing. Faq: 1981 Chevrolet Stepside, 350 Crate Motor, 700R4 tranny, 2.5" drop spindles, Total frame notch and 4link, Sectioned front leaf mount for 4link mount, 2 compressors, 5gal tank, 10 switch panel (soon to be 4) Slam Specialties RE7's in the front and RE6's in the rear (bags) Laying frame on a nice set of 20" Eagle 212's (yeah everyone has a set lol) All work done by myself and a few friends. Just need to make a tranny crossmember so she lays even on the frame and im pretty much set in that department, then on to the body work which she really doesnt have too much of that to do just the normal cab corners and rockers and they are really not all that bad either :hiya: Put the tank and bag pressure guages in the location's in the dash.... http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...evy/Guages.jpg Here is what she looks like all up in the air.... http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...vy/MyTruck.jpg Starting the Notch and link.... http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...idenotch01.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...idenotch02.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...idenotch03.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...idenotch04.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/PhilWeld.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...idenotch05.jpg |

Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
very nice, what size tires do you have front/rear?
|
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Pretty Righteous:metal: do those top trianglated bars keep the rear end centered, notice your not running a panhard bar, wicked all the same, have any pics of the front end setup? and yeah keep the pics coming, and Welcome to the Board.

Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
I am thinking the tires are a 245x35x20 I would have to look to make damn sure....
Yeah we ran the triangulation backwards most people put the closer ends of the 4 link over the pumpkin but we figured we would change that up a bit. The only thing that would be a problem on it would be if you didnt have individual bag control on each corner, like if you just had a front and back setup. Then if you went around a corner you would me more likely to fell the major body roll but I havent noticed a damn thing with it like she is. Rides like a freakin caddy!!!! |
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Now I just gotta work on that damn odd ball tranny crossmember, thats one of the dumbest things I have ever freakin seen LOL!!!!

Here is a cool one from:
http://www.carolinarodshop.com/Store...rod_parts.html Notes on the website: Universal use crossmember for mounting your transmission Designed to leave you room to run your exhaust system. Bottom of the mounting pads are parallel with the transmission mount area. Made of 2-1/2" tubing. #CROSM0017 Cost shows $125, might be able to make one cheaper. Pretty cool parts up on that site though. Good luck. |
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Yeah I can fab some **** up obviously LOL, everyone is just telling me to make one.... Hell If I can make my notch out of flat 1/4" plate steel with a plasma cutter and have it come out looking like that I should be able to pull that off HUH LOL!!!!
|
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Great looking project...I like it!
You could try to locate a factory double hump crossmember for your truck, I believe the 73-77(?) 1/2 and 3/4 tons all had them. |
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Welcome to the board from West Tennessee.

Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
really liked it before and it looks good now too. nice work!
|
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Whoa!!! Way to make an entrance there buddy. Very nice truck, looks killer on the floor.
Did you modify something up fron to get it to lay that low? I thought the crossmember lower A-Arms hit the ground before the truck and wouldn't allow it to drop any further? Your truck seem lower than most up front. |
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Man lemme tell ya, I guess I just got lucky? I put the 2.5" spindles in and also cut the crap outta the bump stops then ground down all the leftover metal from them so the bag wouldnt be touching any sharp metal.
Yeah I have seen people section the front crossmember to get it lower but I dont think I really need to do that, once the tranny crossmember is changed out she will sit another 3" lower. The front A-arms are still about 1/4" above the ground not quite hitting yet but as soon as that tranny crossmember is changed I think it will be all the way down. If I drive up on some 2x6 blocks that I have and then let it all the way out the lower A-arm is touching the upper spring pocket LOL NOW THAT IS LOW!!!! So yeah I think I just got lucky.... Unless something is different about the stepsides? |
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
Welcome to our forum.
Nice work on the rear but that forward lateral crossmember your upper links are attached to has me concerned a bit it looks like you notched it pretty good for drive shaft clearance and i was wondering if you boxed it in under neeth cuz it's hard to see in that pic. I think you need to beef that up since it now act's as a major suspension component ya don't need any failures in that area thats for shur. Again nice job and welcome. |
Re: Yo, Dial Up Warning!!!!
LOL It has a piece of 1/4" C-Channel there over the existing for strength sorry I dont have a better pic of it for ya :metal: If you look close you can see it in the 3rd and 7th pic's its the piece of darker metal....
