Modern wheels - Classic 4x4
2 Attachment(s)
Anybody have good examples of newer style wheels for our trucks? Let's face it, some of the newer wheels just DON'T look appropriate on our classic trucks!
The Mickey Thompson's Classic II and Classic Locks are two styles that look great (and the prices can't be beat)... what else? I like these RBP's also (cost at least twice as much as MTs) although I'm still trying to decide if they fit the look...... (I prefer the left one) The more I think about it... I don't think the right one would fit the look. Also, they're both chrome and I think probably too 'shiny'. Polished aluminum would be better. |

I like "old style" wheels on old trucks. The newer blingy one's don't look right to me. I'm running old school American Racing slots. At least they're 17 inchers! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...o/P1010169.jpg

I like my Eagle Alloys..but to me it's not about the rims,it's about tires capable of getting you through rough terrain..These ain't no little 2wds an inch of the ground that will only see pavement :)

I like the ones K14burb and 1969k10stepside posted. I also really like the old hurricaine or is it turbine style rims on these trucks (the style on the General Lee Charger).
Here are the cheapies I have on my K20. http://yukon.b0xen.us/69chevy/tire01.jpg |

if i could find a set of turbines, id almost ditch both my sets of wheels! |

I actually checked Ebay for a while trying to find some original slots or better yet some turbines. I finally settled for some AR-23s and mounted the 35s that the truck came with. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c231/fatdonyo/66.jpg Then when I stole the 37s off my '97 burb I had to get some 17s. I like the slots but plan to use some factory 17" Dodge steel rims whenever I do the 14bolt and 3/4 ton stuff in front. Bling just doesn't look right to me on an old truck. |
Re: Modern wheels - Classic 4x4
I think you should never go more then a 17in wheel on a 4x4. After that they start looking wierd plus it takes away from being able to air down when needed.

You know why modern wheels don't work don't ya........ NO DEEP DISH.
IMO on any pickup anything bigger than a 17" in most cases doesn't look right. Nothing looks tougher on a truck than a deep dish rim, my 2wd pickup has deep dish wagon wheels and I get knocked all the time about not having bling bling wheels or cause I have deep dish wheels. I kill to have a set of vectors or slots or those Mickey Thompson Challengers (doh my keyboard is filling with drool). I have settled on getting a set of stock 16" rims widened and chromed when I get the $$$ I know its not a 4x4 but..... |

Here is what I have on mine. I kind of like the wheels that fit with the body style. All 35" BFG except the 87 K30 which has 33" BFGs soon to be 35"

The Mickey Thompson Challengers are cool i dont know if I like the wheel that replaced them or not. I would like to see the black ones on a truck.

Re: Modern wheels - Classic 4x4
Earl one of my buds has those black wheels on a F150. He likes them but I think they'll be out of style by the first time they need polished.

Re: Modern wheels - Classic 4x4
