Ok..........here we go yet once more. Not even going to give her a name. This one is not going to get sold and I don't care what someone offers me for her this time. Just not happening! Been kicking myself since I last sold my latest 4x4 crew project and just about had her back too.....but the dude is doing a cummins swap and is in love with the truck.
So...here is the short version. Knew truck was coming up to a local estate auction and was going to go, but family duties steered me into a different direction. Buddy bought it, then changed his mind. He happened to owe me $950.00.......so I threw him $1800.00 more for the beast on the agreement that we sell the camper as a joint effort and split the earnings. Fair enough...done deal. So here she is in all her glory, camper is getting sold, she needs outer rockers, and cab corners. Bout it for now really, been very well taken care of. I have a 4" lift left over from my last project, will probably eventually get that and some 33's. Gonna be a pretty simple build for now, nothing crazy, just a nice hauler/driver. Color change in the future as well...but not starting a full on build till the other projects are near complete. Just happy to have a CC 4x4 back in the arsenal. 350/4spd standard, no power anything, no AC...........just the way I like em! And it's an 89 so FI |

Awesome!

Re: Project: ____________________________
For a long shot of the project, would like to go with a grey interior (have brand new carpet in the shed for it) cause I'm not a fan of BLUE. Then maybe a green or ??? exterior. Don't want to make it too pretty, cause she is gonna be a worker/driver but still nice non the less. Haven't decided on going with 20's or a set of wide stock 16s for wheels with 33's. Not going to go crazy, just a nice clean driver.
....and probably a short box conversion of course.....as soon as I can find a short box fleet donor. |

Re: Project: ____________________________
Cool truck. That is quite the camper. What does it have for fear end gears?
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Pretty sure it's 4.10s but haven't checked yet. Trying to sell the camper before I dig into anything to big.

Re: Project: ____________________________
Sweet truck. Looking forward to seeing how this project turns out :metal:

Re: Project: ____________________________
Well not much has happened on this project other than finally got rid of the monstrosity of a bi level house that was in the back of it. Looks like a normal truck again.
Just got back from the US picking up a bunch of sheet metal from a Nevada truck that was abandoned on the hiway and ended up at the scrap yard. Another guy rescued it for the frame and drive train...so I bought pretty much everything else that I could fit on the trailer. Drove 6 hours round trip to get it all but well worth it in my books. Got the complete front clip, complete doors, short box fleet side bed (still has the undercoating from the factory on the underside), one banged up spot at the back that is rust coloured but that is it. Very happy all said and done. Was a fun drive too....found lots of other projects I might have to go back for....lmao. Anyways, not much of an update, but pics non the less.....:metal: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps5227ef9d.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps136e46a6.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps29eaa1e0.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psec55816f.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8441cdcb.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps3f5576a8.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps721aee58.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse326e506.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psbfc9b4c5.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psd658ad6e.jpg |
Re: Project: ____________________________
Awesome truck and what a score on the sheet metal.
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Picked up an NV4500 for her today......just need to track down a 205 for her now, or an adapter to fit a normal 205 case. maybe a doubler? lol
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Made some bartering deals over the weekend, traded off my 88K30 triail rig project and my 88 K5 for:
12v Cummins NV4500/205 Intercooler Turbo ..and all the parts needed to do my swap Plus a dodge D60 front diff with 3.55s And a 2000 GM 14 bolt rear with disc (gonna have to regear) ...already have: 52's for the front 63s out back Blazer tank Pretty good start of collecting parts I think....soon time for execution. |
Re: Project: ____________________________
Im in to see the rest .
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Awesome crew cab! Sounds like a killer build. Will definatley follow.
You might want to check the Dana 60 front you got. With the 3.55's, It might be the Dana 61 which I believe only shares certain parts with the D60. Do you know the year of Dodge it came from? Its kind of an odd stepchild of the D60. Its very misleading, and a lot of 4x-ers have been burned by getting them for a "really great deal". How were you planning to match the gears with the rear? 14 bolts were 3.23, 3.73, 4.10 etc... |
Re: Project: ____________________________
I think the 61's only came with 3.07's
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Pretty sure it's the 60, buddy knows his stuff. Will double check when it gets here this weekend.
As for regearing I will just order new and order a trac loc at the same time. |
Re: Project: ____________________________
It's from a 1992 and its a real 60....not the mismatched 61/71 combo.
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Thought you weren't gonna go nuts? Just a nice hauler driver. Hmm.
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Cummins in it doesn't make it a nice hauler? I don't classify this as crazy yet....my CCSB dually has been a bit of a long ride though, and my 98 SAS truck was a big crazy project. This is still sane yet.
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
so its going to see a lot of change !
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
So there is issues with what I have planned?
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
Sounds like a good plan to me.
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
The only issues are after that hog of a cummins gets set between those frame rails, your gonna have to get used to hearing..... Is it for sale? I have to have it, LOL.
Thats what sorta sucks about building a project. Before you ever get done you usually get a bunch of tempting offers from others who really really want it. Your Will to keep this one will definitely be tested after that drivetrain is installed. Again... can't wait to follow this one. |
Re: Project: ____________________________
i was saying that in a positive way
|
Re: Project: ____________________________
What size tires are you planning on? The 52" front springs might end up being too soft for the front in a crew cab with a cummins! I take it you have done a good amount of research on that?

The bartering and parts collection has begun.
Buddy of mine (bought my first CCSB 4x4 project) graciously bartered with me over the past week or so on my K30 4x4 and K5 4x4, my GM NV4500 4x4 trans and a set of 9.00/16 tires I had on trade plus $200 cash for the following. 1995 Cummins 12V P pump with a pile of parts including intercooler NV4500 hybrid (GM/Dodge) NV4500 with bellhousing and clutch 92 leaf sprung Dodge D60 T400 with 205 adapter (for trail rig) 2000 GM 14FF with disc my already shortened shafts for the rear off my first project 63" leaf springs some new parts for the cummins in the original packaging ....and of course his help/expertise throughout the build (priceless) being as the diesel world will be a whole new learning curve for me, but excited for sure. |
