Why is it so hard to find stepside beds

I've been looking for a stepside box on CL ever day for a couple months now parts are getting hard to find! Why is that more people looking for these trucks or is it from when scrap price was up?

The crazy thing is the tailgate. Try to find one of those for under $300. And I think that is probably the longest produced body part of all time

They probably rust out quicker in your area in my area everyone wants fleetsides so there is usually atleast one on craigslist in my area I prefer them so that's a plus for me cause they i dually go for $200-400 complete other than they all need wood

Stepsides are easy to come by here. I currently have 3 of them. They look good on 4wd trucks.

they made less of them and a lot of people like short wide beds then there is rust issues... building mine I found parts but they were expensive... I see a lot of guys improvising with angle iron on the underside

If you got the money http://www.mar-k.com/ has them in pieces you could build one.

I'd love to find a square body 8' stepside bed for my 83. I found a complete truck for sale in southern cali with the 8' bed, too far to drive though.

Up here, it was cash for clunkers. Everyone cleaned out their backyards years ago and they melted down a lot of them. The one stepside I was lucky to find in the junkyard was gone the next day.

Its real tough to find stepside stuff in NY. I have two that I've been lucky enough to find parts from people that stashed parts away. I also have a 8' stepside box waiting for the right truck.

And its the fenders and steps that rust out. Those are the parts that are difficult to get up here.

My father has a long bed step side 72 GMC 4x4. It is total junk, rusted out really bad. It may be fixable, but would not want to try. Let me know if anyone is interested in the parts, will be replacing with a fleetside bed.

Well I was having trouble finding 6' fleetside bed for the 79 and finally on CL found a pair of right and left panels in decent condition for 150.00 from a couple nice guys. So deals are still out there just keep looking. I also scored a nice hood from a 78 truck for 50.00, sorry had to brag:metal:

There is a guy here in town that has been trying to sell a really nice pair of stepside fenders with long steps. He has had them for a couple of years. I guess the price scares most people away around here

Living on Long Island (ny) I could honestly say I've seen 3 total step side short beds. I'm always looking on Craigslist and only came across one long bed. I got lucky finding mine
