Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Hello. I thought I would introduce myself and post some photos of my project and that might be of some interest to other 60-66 owners.
I lowered the top lips of the front fenders 2.5 inches to better match the rear fender stretch. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...n_after1-1.jpg Here is the rear fender with a 3.5 inch stretch to accommodate the 31-inch tall tires. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...ellstretch.jpg To fit the 18 inch wide rear tires, I stretched the wheel wells, too. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...eltubs_a-1.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...s_both_a-1.jpg |

Welcome Vince!! Nice Truck!!

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Interesting mod on the front fender. I've thought about doing the opposite; raising the rears to better match the front. Can't wait to see how it looks.

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Congrats on welding that reproduction front fender, i put one on my truck last week and it is some light guage metal.
|
Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Looking good! Could we get some better pics of the front wheel opening mod? That to me is the only issue these trucks have is the fact that you cant 'tuck' smaller rims and tires under the fender like you can with the 67-72's.

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
lookin good

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Interesting. I'm anxious to see how it turns out. 18 inches wide, those sound like some good meats. What motor to turn em?

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
welcome to the board from Idaho! I like your mods, but need bigger pictures

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Thanks, everyone! I never knew about this forum until 62 short step clued me in...much props to him. I had just been kind of plugging away on things on my own. I wish I had known about this site earlier, it would have made things a lot easier in working on this project.
Here is a little larger image of my front fender modification. The weld line is about where the original lip was located, which is what necessitated the 2.5-inch spacer in the middle. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...rLipDrop2a.jpg |
Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Sweet man! That's the kind of stuff I like to see. I bet hardly anyone will notice when it's done.
You know, you can also tub the front end for more tuckage. |

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Here is a photo of the rolling chassis (before I dropped the front fender lips), and of the Pontiac 455 mock up. The previous owner apparently got happy with his drill and Swiss-cheesed the fire wall, so I've been welding up all of the holes - what a PITA!

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Thanks, guys. I haven't done too much since I've been putting a lot of time and energy into my funny car project. But, I did finish the frame and plugged all of the holes in the firewall (PO drilled a 100 holes for various things) - I still need to replace some floor sections in the cab since the PO installed several diiferent seats while he had it. I started to do final mock ups of the cab and bed.

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Looking good and a nice setup combo!
Gonna keep an eye on your build! I even dig the Poncho engine! Where did you get the front support tubes? How is your front and rear suspenion set up? Can kinda guess by the pics... More pics of that front and rear end! Plans for front inner fender wells? Plans for using tubs in the rear? Hoozier hides are cool.... Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Thanks...here's an older photo of the front fender modification I do to help with proportion of the opening between the front and rear openings.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j..._MockedUp3.jpg The forward bars I fabricated from leftover roll cage stock. I made it a bolt-in set up, so that I could remove it to make engine removal and installation easier. It's a front and rear air spring set up just so I can have a little ride height adjustability for the roads out here, plus the approach to my driveway is a little steep. Inner front fenders are stock and I widened my pair of rear wheel wells. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...rwarStrut2.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...ubs_both_a.jpg |

Nice looking ride vin.. Done anymore work or is that flopper still takin up time?

Re: Intro and Some Photos of my '63 Project
Thanks...I did make and weld in some patch panels for the cab this past weekend, but spending most of my time tearing down and examining the funny car engine after a short 9K RPM pass just to see if it liked it - so far nothing wrong. Replacing the main and rod bearings with Calico coated bearings. Just re-stripped the impellars on the supercharger and getting ready for runs in the new year.
