1962 chevy c10 update.
Just finished blasting and painting the rear frame. I used rustoleum rusty metal primer and semi gloss black. I think it came out good. I do recommend this product for cost cutting. The quarts cost $8.00 each and lay down smooth. The truck is coming together slowly. I also cut out the cab corners and finished putting the engine back together. I had three people stop when I was working on it out side. I also received a ticket for storing my bed in the driveway.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I know, I live in a new sub division and there is construction everywhere so I didn't think it would matter. So I have to move it into the garage.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
That's just stupid for the ticket. Nice job
|
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Your truck is looking good
Are you leaving it mostly stock? I think that is BS getting a ticket for your bed being in the driveway. I am so glad I don't have to worry about things like that around here......not yet anyway. |
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Yes I am planning on stock with little modifications. I will change the wheels and put either a 2 or 3 carb setup on it. I want to do something different than what everybody else does. I wanted to put a v8 and auto but everybody in my area has that. I want to do a 60s theme with a hot strait six. I saw an eposode of gears and he did a strait six with three carbs and it looked kick ass. Thanks for the comments. I moved my bed inside last night so I won't get into trouble.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Replaced the right cab corner. The left one I messed up and need to get another. Does anybody know the best way to remove the front cab mount/ floor brace? Mine is rusted thru.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Just replaced the right front cab mount. It took longer than expected. It had a bunch of spot welds. Plus it was harder to do upside down. I finally removed and replace it.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Wow your resto work looks great!
The motor looks like it is totally back from the dead, and your p-side cab corner looks awesome! Are you doing all this solo, or do you have some help? I am also guessing this is not your first project piece..... |
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I am doing all myself. I did a 66 when I was in high school (1988) that I found in a farmer's field. I have been a Army Mechanic for 22 yrs and I have been watching all the how to shows like Gears, Trucks, Muscle ca and Overhaulin. I have been wanting a project for a long time and came across this truck. Thanks for the shout out!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Congrats on your 22 years of service!!
I just rolled over 20 years active last August. Keep us in pics on your build, this is the fun stuff !! |

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thanks for the complements. I received the inner fender seals so I am going to replace the inner fenders. If I have time I am going to do the other cab corner. I do not want to get in a hurry because last time I did and I messed it up. I am looking for a good right front fender. I started sanding the front and noticed that it is rusty and dented bad in the front.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Did more work today. I replaced the left rocker panel. It wasn't as bad as I thought. The hardest part was stretching the panel to get a good fit. I still have to grinding and fill the seam to make it look better. I also fitted my front fenders. For some reason they are not lining up right.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Did more metal work today. Didn't get to finish because the lower part of the right door is rusted thru. So I have to order a patch to finish it.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Subscribed. It's coming along nicely :)

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
looks great- I'm going to have to replace at least the bottom of my door skin eventually- I'm very nervous even thinking about it - your work looks awesome.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Replaced my left side door skin and lower door panel It came out ok but it's a bout 1/4 off. I still have to adjust it a little.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Very impressive progress, your truck is coming along nicely. In my youth I always wanted to build a 6 cylinder engine with a 4 barrel and headers, but it never worked out that way. Triple carbs have always provided a better wow factor though. I wish I had your sheet metal skills. Keep up the good work!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thanks,
One day I will having look as good as yours. I have been a mechanic in the Army for 22 yrs and just started to get into the body work. While I was in Germany I watched all the how to car shows and learned a little. I wish I were better. This was the first time I did a door skin. It came out ok but it is a 1/4 in off from the left door. How much does the door seal stick out from the sill plate on the bottom? The bottom door is knocked in a little because it was sticking way out. I need to do some more hammering and filling to get the door better. If I didn't have to replace the lower door I think it would have come out better. This is the hardest part of the build so far. Getting the doors right. http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/k...a/IMG_8654.jpg |
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I just went out and removed the skin and re adjusted it. It is a little better. When I feill the weld line I will have to make the top body line also.
|
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I am still debating on how to do mine ,it would have been nice if the door skin had not gotten dented , I would have rolled opened the seem and laid it in , but skin was too far gone , so I suspect I will have it on and off the truck a bunch of times to get it aligned correctly..... looks like you are doing a fine job...

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Did a little work this weekend. The door skin is harder than expected. The repo parts just don't line up good. I have all the body lines matched up except one. The door gaps are real close but I still have to align the door to the upper fender. The front top of the door is in jut a little too much. As you can see the front fender lines up ok with the white front grill support border. I guess I am pleased with the outcome. I still need to do the other side. The doors are the hardest part to get right!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Looks like your fender hung real nicely.... do you recall who you got it from?
|
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I got it from classic chevy parts of America. I had to trim some where the upper fender overlaps and widen some holes in the front. it mounted pretty good for an aftermarket part. I have one dent in it in the front that I have to fix.
|
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I finally put on my front fenders. I thought I would have done this about a month ago. I had to do some adjusting to get it to line up right. Her is what I did.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Did a little more work this week. I lower control panel and started working on my hood. Still need t paint the interior. I ordered the paint just waiting for it to come in. I cut out two pieces on the right side. I also bought the dent puller from Harbor Freight. It has been working well. I wish i would have bought it sooner so I could have used it on my right side door skin.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I got that little bad boy too, and was glad to have it!!
|
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
It has already saved time. I wish I would have had it for my right door. I would have pulled the dents instead of replacing the door skin. Which took me along time to fix. I started working on my hood. Rats nest used to be where the rust is. You can see all the stuff that came out of the rear hole.
|
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Sanded all the rust, primed and jammed the hood today. I also finished the patch work yesterday. Tomorrow I plan on finishing the paint and mounting it to get the lines right and work the dents out. It is getting closer to primer.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Installed the hood today. I have it aligned pretty good but I still need to do some adjustments. I need to order all the hood cushions because mine were all rotten. Once I put them in I will line it up. Next is body work!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Nice work man body lines are looking good cant wait to get mine put back together

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thanks, The lines are the hardest part. I see some lines that not quite right but my wife can't tell. The upper fenders are just in place not bolted. I need the hood pads to get the proper adjustment. i did find out by taking off the sheet metal parts they kid of warp a little. I guess from not being mounted. So there is a little tweaking and bending to get it right. Good luck and can't wait to see your build.
