thank you everyone! this my first time doing anything like this at all! i've got family members that built hotrods and truck! I learned to weld a lil on a guys farm/ranch that i work for! i don't know how i would go about craftin the '78 in! the '70 i just oblonged the 4 holes in the rear cross sill! that took alot of time checking the fitment! yes, those are seatbelt latches and they work great have to push the driver side in first then the passenger side! u can pull the truck back and forth and won't open but, it works! seeing that i'm new to this i need to figure out on postin new pics. this past weekend the bed came off and i started cleaning and paint the frame and i got all new parts to do the front and rear suspension! i got to rebiuld the rearend, its got the 3.07 gears and i have a '65 parts truck that have 3.73 gear i'm gonna put in! as of the engine and tranny i have a 305 and 700r4 thats rebuilt thats going in for now! later i'll change the motor out but still keep the 700r4!! THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!! and this site is awesome!!

I reread your build and didn't see which fuel tank you will be using. Maybe I over looked it. Nice progress so far.

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
Did the steel bed floor bolt right in?
|
Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
a lil mod. to the rear cross sill ends! so they fit in the pillars and oblonging the four bolt holes! theres a gap at the front bed panel 3/4" but i dont mind you can't see it unless ur under the truck to look for it!

|
Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70

A all new frontend will be going on

i also have been helping my buddy with his 69 gmc he got/stole for 3 grand! the guy he got it from needed money pretty bad and ask my buddy to make an offer! its got a 350/350 4.10 or 4.11 posi rear, the hood hinges were broke, brakes were really really soft, needs a few odds and ends in the interior like the window felt, the high beams don't work, but all in all i think it was a steal, since i got that in parts for my truck and its not even running! i told him i had the hood hinges from my 70' parts truck and a 3.08 rear if he wants it and we worked on his truck! the good thing was now his looking for parts for me since i hooked him up, and i don't got to scrap all of the 70' cause he will be getting other odds and ends off it!!

ok i got the frontend suspension some what together had to stop to go to a b-day party! the only things left to put on the frame is the gearbox, front shock relocators that mount on top of the frame, front shocks, sway bar, and take the 70's rad. support x-member out and put my 64' rad. support x-member in. then the frame is done besides the brake lines! so on to the pictures!!!

more pictures!! before and after!! 3rd. picture is before i touched the frame, 1st. and 2nd. is after the 5in drop out back, look and the toolbox and you can see the drop and the last picture is after the 4.5in. drop up front and 5in. drop out back! the rims are all 17's the chrome ones are 12in wide. 3??/60/17, and the 07' stock rims have 235-70-17! height wise the stock tires are 1.5in taller then the chrome ones! i only have 3 of the chrome rims, so i'm going put the 07' stock rims on all 4 corners, put the 235-70-17 on back and i have 235-60-17 that will go up front, and that should give me a lil rack to it! besides putting the engine, trans, fenders, hood and stuff back on will longer the front too. the bedside is only 12in. front the bottom side to the ground! i'm 6'2" and can see over the cab easy about nose high i would say!! so what do you guys think??? ANY comments?? thanks for looking!!

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
i don't have pictures of what i've done, broke the cable that hooks up to the computer! i did get the gearbox painted silver and got the rad. x-member for the 64 frame painted and they are both installed on the 70' frame! i started to mount the front shock kit that mounts on top of the frame but had to stop because i need a right angle drill or lift the cab up out of the way to drill the holes! so i started to srip the paint and rust off one of the inner fenders and got it painted too!! i'll have to wait til saturday for the cable to come in, had to order it since they dont have it at a any local store here!! so n-e-ways this weekend i'll have updated pictures on here at least!!

thanks for the comments wutnxt, i got my cab lifted up and drilled my holes to mount the front shock relocators, i also was messing around with an old hood i have and since the side were messed up i cut out the middle! i'm wanting to make a 2.5 cowl hood and keep the "V" in the hood to keep it looking some what stock!! on to the pictures!! the last picture is a picture of the sides of a '70 hood i have, i like the slope of the sides! its not squared like the z28 cowl hood scoops! let me know what you think!!
|
Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
Hey.....thats exactly what i am messing with for my cowl hood........well except that I need about 4 " to clear everything . But I am going to cut the center out of one of my old hoods and graph in the center hood lines to the center cowl section.

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
thats cool wutnxt! i'm going to make a bench seat out of a old tailgate this weekend! i've seen a few on this site and am gonna give it a try! i'm gonna use a stepside tailgate for the back, a stepside side panel cut down and a sway bar cut in half for the armrest! my buddy has some drilling pipe lyin around and said i could use it 2 make the legs and stuff! i'm going to rap the sway bar with foam like you see on rollcages and add the zip ties too for padding, and later i'll add some padding to sit on and for the back 2! my wife wants it to lean back some and she wants somewhere to sit with the kids and to watch me work on my truck! she also wants to see my use same of my junk pile instead of adding to it!! :waah: i'll take as many pictures as i can or i will have her take them while i'm doing it!! lol!! will see!!!!

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
Cool build so far man. I agree with what you said on my post, it is fun to watch the guys who are building on tight budgets. It helps to keep me motivated sometimes to see people at my own skill levels and appearantly similar financial situations managing to get these things together. I'm not knocking the big time guys at all, their stuff is amazing, and provides continuous inspiration. It's just helpful to see others like me getting stuff done, keeps me thinking that I can keep it going too. I like what you've got going on here, and will keep an eye on the build. I dig the tailgate bench too, very cool.
|
Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
fryer, thanks for stopping by and checking out my build! my wifes father says i have a champagne taste on a beer budget, lol! i agree 100% and i like the big time guys trucks too!! i keep up with alot of budget build's on there and a few high dollar ones as will! i think i haven't been motivated lately is one reason i haven't done anything on my truck! i brought my fenders to my house the other day to start messing with them, i'll get picture later today or tomorrow! i've done alot of measuring and drew my lines as to where i'm going to cut on them and scraped the rest of the undercoating (1/2" road tar) off of them last night! the tailgate bench was made in one day but took a few days of planning and getting things together i'm still not done with it! i'm still going to paint it bright metallic blue with silver letters and put a foam seat and foam padding for the arms on it! should look cool when all done!

one more thing for anyone that wants to comment! i'm going to put that rollpan on with the license plate cut-out, and was think of putting a rear bumper on as will just for the safety of a rear bumper! i got a picture and would like some input as to what you guys think!! i'm thinking of something like this with the rollpan and bumper, not the color!!
|
Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
I've got the same "tar" on my inner fenders, not looking forward to removing that. Be sure to post up a pic or two of that bench, I'd like to see it when you're done. As far as your roll pan idea, that's one of those things I'm going to have to stare at for a while. The color is a harsh distraction..... Looks clean enough, would you do a painted or chrome bumper?
|
Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
I roll pan'd my prostreet truck but am considering doing the back bumper thing as well.....but think it might take away from size of the tires....So...i haven't decided yet either but i think i am leaning to just the pan...
|
Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70
fryer.. i'm going to do painted silver bumpers on the front and back, and i'm going to weld the bolts to the back side for a smooth look too! i'm thinking a blue paint job called 'windveil blue' is a f@#d mustang color kind of like lemans blue or nassau blue! i don't like alot of chrome to much bling bling is not for me! i'm going to paint my custom cab trim silver as well, i'm not doing the side trim! to take of the 'tar' on the fenders i used a few wood chisels to take that stuff off! lately is been hot everyday so i'm waiting for a lil cooler days to do the big stuff, you know the stuff i know is going to take all day!!
wutnxt.. i was thinking about of just the roll pan but i'm wanting the safety of the rear bumper incase someone runs into the back of me! people these days don't care and insurance companys don't want to pay you what you have in it! |
