63 rebuild
3 Attachment(s)
Whats up guys, I've been on this sight awhile checking out things, and decided to show you my build. This is a 1963 Chevy pickup i've had since 1985 when i was 16. It started out with a 460 ford motor in it, it had to go. I put a 350 in 3 years later and had it painted, drove it till 1992 and parked it. Been setting ever since. I decided to tear it down and give it a new life. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1279506104

A lot of work went into these pic, cleaning, scraping, grinding, sand blasting, then primer.now its clean enough to work with.

Re: 63 rebuild
That's cool that you've hung on to this truck this long....was it your first vehicle? Looks like it was pretty nice before you tore it apart. What's the basic plan this time around? Your truck is the ideal truck IMO.....A '63 Custom Cab, big back window, short fleetside

Re: 63 rebuild
I had a 71 nova before i got the truck , I,m going to go with the 2.5'' disc brake drop spindles, 4''/6 drop, to start with.

trying to decide if i should buy a new fender or go with the replace patch http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1282013798

Re: 63 rebuild
I would definitely patch your existing fender. In fact you should be able to repair that with just a piece of 18ga cold rolled sheet. All you need to do is put that little bit of a curve and the lower body line in it. That's what I would do. You might need that inner support also. The new replacement fenders leave some to be desired and require some work to get them in shape.

Re: 63 rebuild
That's looking great Boat
Is that the original trans x member, just moved rearward?(sans lower supports) If so,what kind of E brake set up did you have? I'm at about the same stage with mine(also a '63)and need to make a decision soon on what I'm going to use.I'll be running a TH 350. Thanks,T |
Re: 63 rebuild
no its not the original trans member .when i bought the truck it had a 460 ford engine in it ,when i dropped the 350 in i used the same cross member just moved it around a little works fine, don,t know what it came out of . as far as e-brakes i never had any cables ran anywhere so i need to figure that one out.

Your working fast Boat,looking good
That does look like the relocated original Not sure if the shortbeds were setup the same or not,but my longbed has a separate crossmember for the E brake(behind the trans member) |
Re: 63 rebuild
I really like your use of a engine hoist and wood frame to remove the cab. :metal: Great idea which I will steal when it comes time for my project.

Re: 63 rebuild
I seen this engine hoist design on this sight but added two extra bars, works great.

Re: 63 rebuild
did you use the stock frame mount for the panhard bar?
