Yes, here I go. Towed my K5 home and it's setting in the driveway! I am calling this stage 4 because it goes like this: Stock form when I bought it, then a 4" lift with 35's, then 8" lift with 39.5's, now stage 4! It's going to be a major project, but I can't wait to get ripping! Got a few pic's of the extraction this morning.

Bought these years ago, genuine GM. Also, found these in the glove box this weekend when I broke the K5 out of storage. Rear seat hold down brackets and one front seat bracket. Cleaned them up and painted them. Pic's of my new pitman arm for the high steer. All painted up! Can't believe the price of the outer rocker assemblies, now and then, less then $20 back in the day and these still have GM stickers on them!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

If i were you ;) I would post those NOS rockers on ebay and sell them for about 3-400.00 then get some tri-plus ones for around 60-80...

Why, cause I'll probably just bash them up anyway! No, these badboy's are going on this K5, didn't save them this long for nothing!

Just got word, my rear upper u-bolt plates, and assorted parts have been shipped from DIY4X ! YAAA! Weather permitting, going to try and fire it up this weekend. Fresh battery, some hi-octane fuel, new set of spark plugs, should be a go!

Yukon Jack 05-13-2010 09:54 AM

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Sweet - I hope it fires right up for you. Always a blast when parts are on the way. Got to know the office UPS guy real well a few years ago when I was doing lots to the 69 - he was a gearhead so he was always interested in what was coming from Jegs and other places.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Right on Yukon! My shackle flip kit and 6" cross tied shackles came today. Look real nice, going to clean and paint them asap. I was not sure on the rear shackle size, so I also have a set of 4.5" crosstied shackles coming along with the greasable bolts. That way I will have what I need on hand to set the rear ride height where I want it. Still waiting on my complete rear disc conversion kit for the 14 bolt to arrive. Oh, also got my new Dewalt 4.5" small H.D. angle grinder today, sweet! I will post up some pic's asap.

swyfor5 05-14-2010 06:56 PM

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Going out right now to clean the shackle flip brackets, and 6" shackles. Prep for paint. Kinda funky looking insignia on the brackets, looks more like 7IY4X, I guess you can't cut out the "D" and make it look right! I will post up pic's later tonight before I spray them.

More pic's of the shackle flip kit after it was painted. Change of plans, can't work on the K5 tomorrow, going to Rocks and Valleys Off-Road Park in Harrison, MI. Taking my camera and riding along, going to take some pictures! It's their first year anniversary of the park and a friend and I are going and taking a few jeeps along to play with! Better pack a lunch! Pic's to follow.

Guy's I gotta tell you, if you have never been to a offroad park- GO! I went for the first time today, and it was awesome. Everything from mild to wild! My bud John took my daughter and I on a trip to remember. I will admit most of the trails are set up for Jeep type wheelers, but man they have it all! John even let me drive the jeep out of one of the easier trails. There was a couple custom buggies there that kicked some serious trail a**. I'll post up some pic's!

Worked on the K5 this afternoon. 5 gallons of 92 octane fuel added to the tank, pulled all 8 spark plugs and shot some wd40 in the cylinders. Hit the key and it rolled over good, but no fire. It has been 10 years since it has been started. Had the wife hit the ignition while I dribbled some gas into the carb and it started to fire up! Kept at it a while and no go, would fire with gas in carb but never stayed running. Decided to pull the fuel line off at the fuel filter-right before the carb, and no fuel there. So,I pulled the fuel pump off and started to replace it. The hard fuel line coming out of the pump was siezed into the pump, so I removed all of it and will pick up new lines tommorrow.Got a couple pic's!

I gotta tell ya, I have the best wife in the whole world! She pushed me to yank that fuel pump today, and handed me wrenches every time I needed one! Back at it tommorrow after I pick up some hard fuel line, and etc! Going out right now to clean up the rear upper u-bolt plates and 4.5" shackles, and spray them with black primer!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Got parts all painted. All I need is u-bolts for the rear and I am going to be 1-ton! Still looking at the yoke setup, want the strongest u-joint yoke/spline combo I can set up. I will post up some pic's asap of my rear u-bolt upper plates and the 4.5" crosstied shackles, oh, and the greasable bolts! Anybody got any pic's of their H.D. yoke setup?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Yes! The beast lives again! My partner from work came down this afternoon to help me with the fuel pump and etc. We got the pump on and tried to get it started, but no go. It would run when we filled the carb bowl with fuel, but then die. This guy knows his chevy motors! He runs a camero drag racer down at the motorplex every weekend, and he wasen't leaving till it was sitting there idiling! Figured out all the rubber fuel lines were cracked, and sucking air, so the fuel pump would not pull fuel from the tank. Changed some rubber lines around and yea, she fired right up! Drove it up to my bud's garage and dropped off his tube bender I had borrowed to bend the hard lines to the fuel pump, sweet! Kid's were loving it! Step number 1!

Thank's a lot! It was great to hear that baby roar again! Got a long way to go, but one step at a time! Still looking for 1 ton advise on the yoke/u-joint setup. So cool to drive the K5 again, if only for a minute!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Right on Burt! Be sure to take some pic's! I gotta pick up a new battery so I dont have to charge this one to start the K5. Probably pick up one I can throw in my boat eventually, when I get a red top or the like later. Got one super swamper going low, looks like I better go fill up my air tank! Not bad though, 10 years, 1 tire just going low, other three still look good. I mounted these tires myself by hand and must have done it right! Gonna start taking more pic's soon before I start ripping it apart!
