1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone.
I picked up a 68 k10 for my youngest son he called it the hulk. So I thought I would try my hand at an official build thread. Hopefully works out. This picture is the first picture I took of it on the way home. |

It has the original 307 with a SM465 the was installed in the 80's I was told. It has the original Rockwell t221 (I think). No power anything. Basicly base model. It's was a rock quarry truck up north in California.
On the way through red bluff from picking it up. I was looking on Craigslist and found a 1973 front axle complete so I picked it up also. I didn't get any pictures of it before I started tearing into it. It was my first time rebuilding a complete front end. Replaced everything I could on it that even looked suspect. So I sould not have any problems with it. |

I picked up a np241 transfer case from a 1990 chevy suburban. It has the passenger side drop with an electric speed sensor. I am going to install a 2008 ly2 with a 4L60e (ls swap). I rebuilt the TC but didn't have a camera with me as I was doing it.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I'm in looks like a cool build. I hope your son is not into 4 wheeling if he is you will find your self repairing some of the parts, I was hard on my truck when I bought my first wheeler at 17 broke just about every thing twice until I installed 1 ton running gear.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Thanks for the comment.
The plan for me with the truck build and him working on it is if he spends his time on it he should take care of it. If he breaks it he will have to fix it and pay for it. Things break as I have done it myself many times. The education was having to repair things because I made a bad decision.... We are not getting to crazy just going for reliablity. |

Disassembled everything off the motor and pulled the valve cover. Looks pretty clean. The motor said to have 83k on it.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
awesome!
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
The engine look good for 83K the one I got for my truck was worse than that. the P.O. had a turbo on it and ran it hot and crack ring grooves on 2 pistons. I ended up replacing all my pistons.

Can anyone tell me what this is? I don't remember seeing this on the last LS swap I did? Is this factory in 2008? Or has the motor been worked on at some point?

you do body work?? we can trade!!
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
nice project... interested to see if you have issues with the LS and the front axle. Are you doing any lift? If not then you might need a custom crossmember under the engine...
DIY4x.com has some neat offroad parts, as well as Offroad design... I have a 68 k-10 shortbed but opted to keep the original engine and tranny since it's a 327... |

Basketball has ended for my son so now I have him back to work on the truck. Here he is painting the pan. Well at least on the passenger side. I am thinking about putting a cam in this motor so I decided not to assemble the front assessory drive. Anyone tell me why I can only attach 1 photo per post?
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Are you using an Ipad or phone to post the pics? I found that it only allowed 1 pic while doing that.
I recommend a photobucket account, then you can upload all of your pics and then just post the IMG link to those pics. Much faster and you have your pics online forever in a central location. Just don't move them around and rename folders because it will screw up your original link. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I used to have a photobucket account. Probably still do I will need to look into it. And yes I am using iPhone and iPad to post because my phone and pad are clouded so I don't have to transfer photos.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Yeah I use photo bucket on my android. So much easier. Even easier of you turn on auto backup and then you don't have to manually move them.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Very nice project, was there anything special you had to specify to Tuff Country for the lift springs? Would like to lift my '67 in the future.
Thanks |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
CanadianK10,
Below is a link to a thread I started before I started my build thread regarding the lift and spring issues I was facing . Hope this helps Scott 68 axle swap and lift |

No problem Adam.
So I was searching Craigslist a few weeks ago and found a guy that had a set of aluminum 15x10 wheels. They looked like the original alcoa forged wheels. I called and met up with him and yep they were the original Alcoa wheel but the guy had eagle center caps. I picked them up for $250. Here is a picture of a couple of them:metal: |
