1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
5 Attachment(s)
This one comes to us from Chattinuga Tennessee. It’s a 52 3600 which we are converting to a shortbed. The owner wants the Ole Sarge touch. We’ll be painting it patina'd Robbins Egg Blue with a darker matte blue interior. We will be doing AC, full interior, stereo, 5.3/4L60E, S10 frame, a Nova rear end, custom gauges, column, and a Custom steering wheel

,Man what a fight! Every bolt is near impossible! We’ve had to cut well more than half the bolts!
But the cab is about ready to come off. |

Today we stripped the interior and firewall, Monday will be the dash.
We did get the heater and column out though Firewall is stripped and ready for the holes to be welded |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We started stripping the dash today
And cut out the passenger floor rust. |

it may not look like much progress, but trust me, we got a lot done!
All of the floor rust is removed. He got real lucky that your floor braces were in good shape! They can be very time consuming. We got the dash completely stripped and started removing wind lace, ect. We also used the radio delete as a template for creating a radio fill. When we’re done you won’t know it was ever there. When the truck is done I would like to have my pinstriper do some work on the dash. |

We got the repair Panels fabbed up
found some more rust we’ll need to address |

the first chip is the color I ordered for the interior
For the exterior I was thinking the 2nd or 3rd chip, leaning towards the 2nd. |

We got all the floor and kick panel patches fit and tacked in
Tomorrow we seam them. The floors were a ton of work! |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We got all the floors seam welded, Monday we’ll attack it with the grinder and weld up the pedal holes. Then on to the dash!

Wyatt had to leave at 3, like he does every Monday for School. But we managed to get the floors all ground down. We filled the pedal holes and will address the others tomorrow
We spray leak seal on both sides of all our welds, it expands and covers any pinholes we may have overlooked and keeps moisture out of the weld. Preventing rust. |

We spent most of the day trying to massage those holes by the gauges level before we welded
Came out pretty good though We also made a filler panel for the accelerator pedal hole |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We spent most of the day removing a pedal assembly/booster/master from an S10,modifying it, and installing it in your cab.

We finished the day by deciding on PCM placement

The owner has already said he doesn’t want this. But I couldn’t resist, I bought it for me!

This is something we’re toying with, waiting on a decision from the owner
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

we fit and mounted the PCM. I didn’t like it on the passenger side because the vintage air needs to mount to far forward making the glovebox too shallow. We used carriage bolts though the firewall, squared the holes with a file, and reshaped the heads to be aesthetically pleasing.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
I like the 'eye brows' over the gauges. nice subtle custom touch
Thanks for sharing that idea. |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Chris, I'm not the owner, but I like the eyebrows also...Jim
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
the owner gave the go ahead on the eyebrows, so today we welded them in. Updates later.
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We welded the eyebrows on today. The beadroll on the passenger one was off, so we flattened it and started over. We actually spent quite a bit of time just staring at it, making minuscule adjustments to make it perfect before we welded it.

Then we figured we’re better mock up the AC and do the welding before we do any filling! What you see is not your Vintage Air, it’s my mock up case (a case with no guts for making your brackets and making sure things fit)
Tomorrow we hope to get the column in and brake booster. We’re hoping to get the interior in primer next week. |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Started out by cutting that tab off the pedal assembly
Then we mocked up the column and fabbed up the brackets, tacking everything in Tomorrow we’ll seam weld, then the column goes back in the box until after paint |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Next we drilled and installed the brake booster
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Today we seamed up the brackets for the column
Then we masked the column and painted them We then cut the foam so the column fit back in the box with the new brackets That’s where it will stay until after the interior is painted |

Then we used the brake to bend up some of my custom 6x9 boxes
I think it looks pretty damned clean! |
