My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys. This is my first thread but not my first truck. My daily driver is a
65 suburban. It has a static 4/5 drop and a fuel injected 409 with a 700R4. The Twisted Little Sister is a 66 suburban that is going to be chopped , sectioned and further customized So here's my daily driver |

On this truck I decided to use all of the ideas that I've had over the years, practical or not, just for fun. So for the suspension I got this for a donor.

Since I've always liked the idea of a V12, I got this for the motor and transmission
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Nice!
This is gonna be very interesting! I can't wait to see this one move forward! |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
I do like the Suburbans, and would also love a short panel on my drive.
Take a look at this build, not quite the same, but the same motor action. Also, you could probably use him as a resource or ally. http://retrorides.proboards.com/thre...-sketchy-drive There is a driving video on page 14. Will keep and eye as this unfolds. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
I've never been much of a suburban fan, but this sounds like a fun and interesting build. Looking forward to the progress as it evolves!
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Can't wait to see the build. I'm building a bodydropped extended panel truck currently.

Thanks for the interest guys. Grizz, I did get a couple of ideas from the V12 Landrover link. Thanks
We stripped the Corvette. Then last week we built a frame table and put the Corvette frame on it. We cut the frame at the back of the doors and unbolted it from the front cross member |

We tig welded theses frame curves at the end of last week. We spent all day today cutting and then squaring the 2X6 frame sections on the mill

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Very interesting build, I'll be watching for sure.
That Jag trans looks quite a bit like a GM trans. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Going to have to keep an eye on this build . Those V12 cars are getting quite cheep over here in the UK due to the running costs
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
I like the no-holds-barred approach, there are so few things in life you can truely indulge in.
If this is what you are doing for the frame and power train, I can only imagine where you may go with the body in and out. :metal: |

We spent more time today prepping the frame pieces. Then we started mocking up the frame.

A lot of clamps, a lot of measuring, a little tack welding and we got the perimeter of the frame tacked together. Then we started on some of the sub assemblies
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Nice work. I keep checking on this for progress. It's gonna be sick.

Got a new plasma cutter on the weekend. So today we started by cutting the 90* frame bends into two 45* bends. Then we made a temporary gig to tack the sub assemblies

We did a bunch of tig welding and grinding on the sub assemblies yesterday. Today we clamped the front corners in place then tack welded them

Today we started modifying the front crossmember. First we made a 1/4 X 2 plate with two nuts welded to one side. Welded it to the mounting point for the frame. Then we started cutting the 2X4 frame section |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Great build you have going on. Its probably to early to tell but how do you like the versa cut 60? I have been looking at it for awhile. It had very good reviews.

Todays work. First we made an angle bracket to bolt to the crossmember. Bolted everything together and tacked it to the 2X4 tubing. The next step was to start building the transition between the2X6 and 2X4 sections |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
looking really good...

Started working on the front frame rail for the drivers side. In the first picture notice the angle between the horizontal and vertical where the frame rail sits. In the second picture we cut a 3/8 strip out of the bottom of the frame rail and two cuts on the side. Then used clamps to bend side. The third picture is the side tacked |
