something different 66 long travel truck
5 Attachment(s)
Well, what can I say for you guys that know me from this site! This is different for me lifting a truck and not with air ride but this truck will have some air bags too. I have this clean 66 long bed with a flat bed on it. I lowered it and was going to use it to pick up parts and stuff like but never drove once after I lowered it so my ol buddy nate (porterbuilt) had some fab tech stuff on the shelf he wasn't using so I scooped them up. I have almost finished my 78 and I'm waiting for parts on the 66 sub so me and nephews (Jake aka Waldo and Dave) got after it. We tore it down and scraped all the crap off it. The build will be the 6"fab tech lift, 4"spindle lift,6 shocks up front and hoop with a cross over bar, limit straps, the rear will have slam bags but in a different location than stock, and track locator on the rear with a hoop with six more rear shocks. The bed will be just bed sides and some cool front and rear skid plates and push bars.

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
omg thank you so much!!!! finally a lift instead of a lower!! no offense to yall but i just like lifted trucks. so what would all that cost if i wanted to lift my truck? also what would be my options for a lift in the rear (other than bags)? im not too good with anything suspension wise, i was dreading rebuilding my front end because ive never done any kind of suspension or steering work. looking at your truck and work ive just decided im gonna do a lift and that looks just about how i want it. looks great and thanks again!!

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
Very cool Dino!
Hewlett, You can just flip the rearend to the underside of the trailing arms for a quick/simple lift. I've seen it done on a 67-72. |
Re: something different 66 long travel truck
thanks frizzle, i also seen that done,

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
Dino,
that is very cool, and different!!! I like it!! How was it lowered before? Do you have some lowering stuff you wanna get rid of? |

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
might wanna get it aligned, lol
but seriously, that is some hella extreme ground clearance, even with the little tires. |

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
so what year model truck are those parts for? is your front end stock except for the new parts you just added? will 73-87 lift kits and such fit the front end of my 66? sorry for all the questions, just curious so ill know what to get when i do my truck. also if i flip the rear end to the underside of the trailing arms how much lift will i get?
thanks, John |
Re: something different 66 long travel truck
Are you going for a 4WD look w/ mudders, or the DONK look w/ 30+ rims?
|
Re: something different 66 long travel truck
leave it to you to start something new!!!! what's next, i'm dying to know what you come up with....

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
Cool, i had a 96 chevy stepside 2 wheel drive i put a 6 inch fabtech lift on with 33's yyyeeeeaarrrrssss ago. I guess the big tires and such killed my power and truck never seemed to drive right no matter what i did so i eventually lowered it again. When you get a set of tires on there i think it will make it look really good.

3" axle tube, 3" trailing arms, 1/4" axle saddles: Half the axle tube on both sides of the arm (1.5"+1.5"), a saddle on both sides of the arm (0.25"+0.25"), plus the arms (3") is a difference of 6.5" |
Re: something different 66 long travel truck
Dino, are you going to cruise it, or go bomb around the desert?

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
Rob i think if was to launch this truck i would break i lot of stuff (teeth)the suspension is so stiff i may switch the springs and depending on the shocks, i have found maybe for the rear some big tall reservoir shocks(fox) will see

Re: something different 66 long travel truck
That looks hella sick man !!!
You gonna bubble out the front fenders now pre-runner style or what ?? What you planning for the rear ?? Flip the axle and some longer coils or what ?? Way cool !!! |
Re: something different 66 long travel truck
2.5 or 3" coil-overs up front would make a world of difference. Did I hear long travel 4 link rear?
Actually there are some awesome leaf spring kits that don't totally break the bank, and still achieve 15+ inches of travel! Here is my daily driver, been this way for around 5+ years now-2001 2wd Silverado-Deaver long travel rear leaf's, 4" fabricated knuckles, some crappy coils, and Fabtech upper arms. New trucks aren't built like old ones, I'm on front hub/bearing assembly number 7($300+ each). FIberglass fenders and bedsides, self built bumper. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ruckflexed.jpg Oh yea, and plan on spending at least 1k per desert trip for replacement parts!:metal: |
