3 Attachment(s)
New winter project arrived today. 72 C-20 Suburban 402/400 factory ac front and rear. Has the usual rocker rot and bottoms of quarters but nothing major that cant be fixed fairly easy. Floors and frame are in pretty good shape overall. Will post pics of my progress when I can

Making some progress on the Suburban. 402/400 is almost ready to be pulled to make way for the LS swap 402/4L80E

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
i dont think that they have many of those ( or still have survived ) ...
and that looks like a cool project |
Re: New project : 72 Suburban
As much as I like LS motors, in my mind, they don't hold a candle to a good running Big Block.
Anyway, in for the details |
Re: New project : 72 Suburban
That Burb looks fairly well loaded.
I'll follow along for the bodywork and LS swap. |

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Frame looks great.
I see all the undercoat and dirt on your shop floor, how much time did you spend cleaning it? What was your tool of choice?I'm doing the same, I've been spending an hour a day when I can stripping mine and I figure I'll need many more days stripping it. |

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
I power washed frame first ,then used razor scraper for the heavy stuff followed by 4 inch grinder and wire wheel or wire cup
|
Re: New project : 72 Suburban
I got some bildge cleaner from a friend that is a tug boat captian. Putty knife, scrapper, scotch bright pad wire wheel and whatever else I could find. One piece of advice is put plastic or a tarp on the floor first. I will be cleaning the floor for a while

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Just an update for everyone following my build, I started on the C-notch in the rear and have the passenger side completed. Since this is my first one I did not document that side but I will on the driver side. I'm returning to work tomorrow after a 3 month layoff bc of surgery I had in August so my posts wont be as frequent as they have been the past month. Thank you all for following along and for all of your help and support with this build. I will update my progress when I can

Got the Suburban back down on all 4's. Next step is to install motor and trans mounts. The machine shop is going to have the 6.0 block finished next week so I hope if all goes well when I go on vacation in 2 weeks the motor and trans will be in the frame
|
Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Coming along nicely.
What size drop springs are you using, I see it looks like front drop spindles, are those 2" rear drop blocks? Are you using a wheel adapter in the rear? I'm looking for a decent brand adapter myself for my second set of rear wheels. |
Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Spindles are ECE 2 1/2 drop conversion spindles ( 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton ) CPP 2 inch drop coils front and 4 inch in rear along with 2 inch blocks for a total of 4 1/2 front and 6 inch rear drop. Did not use wheel adapters in the rear. Swapped the 3/4 ton rear end with a 1/2 ton rear end. Bolt pattern is 5x5 front and rear

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
I like the burb, looks like factory red and a big block. Did I miss the picture of the SPID?
I need some big block accessories, interested in selling anything? Tried to send you a PM but you have them blocked. |

He can't sell anything on here because he is not a "Premium" member. If he becomes a "premium" member he can then post the parts he wants to sell on the parts for sale forum. It is also against board rules to sell parts through PM's. LockDoc |
Re: New project : 72 Suburban
The motor and accessories look nice. I digg the look of a Chevy orange LS.
