Garrett's '63 Stepside -- Murder Truck -- Build
2 Attachment(s)
This is my 15 year old son Garrett's 1st car/truck. I'm very proud of my son, he's a great young man with a heart of gold. I'm excited to share this build build with him, it will be a lifelong memory for us both and mark his 'rite of passage', as he graduates from boyhood to manhood.
He wants a 'murdered out' (blacked out), drag truck look. Me and his mother have agreed to help him achieve that 'look': paint/interior/tires & wheels. However, it will be up to him to work and save to furnish the go part of the equation: motor/tranny/rearend. Currently it has a 250 straight 6, 3-on-the-tree, and a stock 12 bolt rearend. He eventually wants to upgrade to a rat motor, four-on-the-floor, and Dana rearend. Here is Garrett's 1963 C-140 Stepside: |

WELCOME !!!
It is so pleasing to suddenly see a bunch of youngsters come onto the board. Your boy seems to have a vision, which makes reaching the goal a lot easier. There is a lot of info and knowledge on this board. Ohhhh, and remember, most of us love photos. |

Okay, we're finally ready to start the real work.
First things first... We're installing the Turbo 350 Automatic Transmission, and B&M Shifter. Also, getting the old straight 6 running smoothly. New brakes. Checking and or replacing all the brake lines, filters, fluids, spark plugs, plug wires, cap, etc... The fuel tank in the cab bothers me (safety concerns), does anyone have any advice on relocating the fuel tank? (Please keep in mind that this is a micro "budget" project). I've included a couple of new photos of the cab, we removed the bench seat. I'm having a couple of riser/brackets made for the bucket seats. |
Re: Garrett's '63 Stepside -- Murder Truck -- Build
great father/son project... floors and rockers look to be solid and that dash cluster is killer and perfect for the theme of your truck.
welcome to you both. its a great place to be... |
Re: Garrett's '63 Stepside -- Murder Truck -- Build

Happy with how the door handles turned out, I think they'll look great once the truck is painted flat black.

Great project, I always have a soft spot for the father/son builds as mine had such a lasting impact on me...and I still have/love the car 20 years later, Nothing makes you appreciate a vehicle like building it yourself |
Re: Garrett's '63 Stepside -- Murder Truck -- Build
Did you have to trim the bezel to get the gauges to fit. I have the same bezel and gauges and had to trim the two big holes.

Re: Garrett's '63 Stepside -- Murder Truck -- Build
Nope. Didn't have to trim anything. Slid right in place.

It's funny that you mention the 'girl' thing, because that is the exact reason he wants the bench seat now. haha
