My 57 Pro Street
1 Attachment(s)
Been here for a while reading everyone elses threads and thought I'd start one.
I bought my truck 16 years ago with the intention of building it after raising my kids. One thing leads to another and its taking longer than expected but I try to do a little when I get the chance and funds. 496 BB Currie 9" w/4 link 4 speed auto 67 Chevelle front clip Boxed frame Smooth fire wall Custom bed |

When I removed the old fire wall and rusted floor I needed to replace some metal in the front corner. I couldn't find any replacement parts so I made my own.

I made my own smooth fire wall out of 16 gauge steel. I know when I start setting up the engine I'll have to modify it but I want it to fit around the rocker covers so I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I made my own replacement floor also.
I'll post more pics when I get the chance. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
It looks like you've had some fun! Got any pics of that rear end with 4 link? Did you have to narrow the rear axle? :ito:

Heres a custom bed I built for my truck. I'm using the original fenders.
I had some metal bent and then welded it all together. |
Re: My 57 Pro Street

I wanted to tilt the bed to make it easier to remove the tires so I fabbed up some brackets and a frame for it.

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Very cool, nice work. Thanks for sharing. Once the 71 GMC is done, I'd like to tub my Studey a bit more than it currently is.

I"ve been able to get a little more done on the bed of my truck.
These are the parts I started with to build the roll pan. I used 1" tube to create the curve for the rear pan. I made a jig so I could keep the 2 sides at the same size when they were welded. |
Re: My 57 Pro Street

The rear was rolled to match the rear fenders as much as possible but didn't quite make it so I had to strap it down before I welded it.

Here are a few more pics of the rear pan and the front bed corners.
I used carriage bolts in the ends of the 1" pipe to clean them up. Hope you all enjoy the pics and I'll post more when I'm able to get more done on it. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Looking good! I am in the process of building a 50 five window Pro Street right now. I am using the same TCI crossmember you are. I am going to run a 9" rearend with svo disc brake set up. Good luck with your build!

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Wow, nice work Kim.
Do you do all the breaks and bends on the sheet metal? Looks like you really know how to fabricate. What type of wheel tubs are you going to use? Are you going to make your own or buy off the shelf tubs? We just about have the same size rear wheels. |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Very nice work, did you roll the roll pan section your self? On a break? Got me thinking about making mine for my 59 instead of buying one.
I love this site, so much detail on the builds gives us confidence to jump in ourselves. |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Tri5Nerd and OrrieG
I had the shop where I buy my steel from make the bends in the metal. I drew up some plans with all the dimensions and had them cut and bend it then I welded everything together. They bent the 1" tube and then did the sheet for the roll pan also. They weren't able to get the pan as tight as the tubes so I had to finish it at home, thats why you see the straps holding it all together. I saved a ton of money doing it this way. The bed only has $200 in steel including the bends and the roll pan and 2 front corners was only another $80. Kim |

Heres an up-date on what I've been doing to the truck.
Had some time to work on the core support. The 1st pic is the material I'm using. 2x4 rectangular stock and 1-1/4 round tube. Pic #2 it is set up to be welded together. Pic #3 shows how I had to cut it to fit the frame. Pic #4 shows how I cut my frame horns to begin. Pic #5 shows it welded to the frame. |

Hers some more pics of the core support. I didn't just want it square at the transition so this is what I came up with.
The first pic is some cardboard templates I made to dress up the front of the frame. Pic #2 is some 1/8 inch plate I cut out. Pic#3 and #4 shows it welded to the frame. I still have to clean up my welds some. |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
