Found a bracket off a six cylinder Camaro which had been butchered to fit around a set of headers, I Did not have the rest of the pieces so I just built them. The bracket as found, And after repair Attachment 501547
Attachment 501548 I already had the pulleys installed so I left the alternator on the inside pulleys and set the power steering pump to line up with the front pulleys |

The lower alternator bracket which bolts to the block. It had been 'adjusted' in the past and was just about out of metal at the rear hole. The new bracket moved the alternator forward 1/4" which lined up the pulleys better

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
That turned out great Bruce. Have you driven it yet? Did you get the steering box bracket squared away?

Attachment 501620 New gear box is in. Clearance is perfect with the 71 tie-rods Attachment 501621 New tilt auto column from a 77 Nova I had Attachment 501622 Recycled the 77 Nova brackets with some modifications. Working on a new bracket to hang the E-brake back under the column. Thinking about flipping the E- brake handle over and pointing it towards the passenger side. Would still be mounted flat under the column and right under the edge of the dash. .... still thinking about this ....Anybody have other ideas on E-brake options??? |

And if I did find a donor truck with disc brake calipers, could I just buy 6 lug rotors that would work with them? Thanks! |
Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
Bluesfella --CPP had a package on E-Bay which I bought for less than catalog price. It fit 71 & 72 spindles with 6 lug and used GM calipers. I have heard other guys have had trouble with CPP but I had no problems at all. 1971 was the first year front disc were standard issue. I also have a 71 so when I found a 1971 rolling chassis on craigslist I grabbed it. I can salvage the other stuff for my 71. Guys say 73 and up makes a better swap due to availability and rubber bushings .

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
Looks good bubba327. I got a 61 and I've been told I could use a 73 as a donor truck for the both the ps and pb. Whats your opinion since you do have a 63.

Attachment 502955E-Brake in basic position under Nova tilt column. Hanging where it clears and works well. More brackets need to be built
Attachment 502956Removed the offsets from the brake pedal arm. This moved the pedal over away from the gas pedal. With out the clutch pedal the gas and brake were just too close. Welded on the larger foot pedal. Even says disc brakes on the foot pedal. New piece welded on the side is for the brake light switch to hit. Attachment 502957 Recycled a piece of the old 64 bracket. I left the brake pedal bump stop. Heated and bent the old tab back flat again (that held the old brake light switch) Welded on a new bracket facing out and welded on a new bracket on the arm so brake light switch is now accessible. . Original wiring reached the terminals |

I need to take a closer look at this. I had to add a two belt pulley to my alternator and didn't feel that was a good thing. Your's is much cleaner!:metal: |
Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
As far as ebrake is concerned, I am moving mine to the inner side panel where the air vent is. I am covering that up and mounting it there using a pedal assembly from a 80's van if I remember correctly. I also bought an adjustable ebrake cable from Lokar. I know I am losing the airvent but I have really long legs and I am constantly scraping them on the handle.

Attachment 506146Finally got all the brackets built. E-brake works great. Wiring harness comes later in the project. Planning a cover for the wiring under the column.
Had to add 1 wire under the dash for a hazard flasher( orange wire to flasher , brown wire up to column switch ) and now all directional lighting works perfect! Everything else wired up color to existing color. The new orange wire comes from the hot side of the brake light switch , using the same circuit so the hazard light quit flashing when the brake lights are on. (as per 1977 Chevy wiring diagram) Attachment 506147Finished tilt steering column . I removed the lock mechanism and ignition switch and ground off the un-used lock casting, Machined a piece of aluminum for a plug that press fit into the hole left by the lock, epoxied in place and added a roll pin that I drilled in from inside the collar.Press fit piece was sanded smooth to match and painted. Looks great ,no trace that a key ever existed. Steering wheel was found installed in a Buick 4-door in the local the Pick-A -Part. Maybe a mid 80's Chevy Camaro sport wheel? Dunno what it came from, but it was only $8.00... Attachment 506148 The 64 E-brake highly modified to fit a 77 Tilt column. Gee-- it is good to be attaching and posting again.. Bubba |

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
Truck dr.--You might have the bracket from an integrated head 250. My bracket came from 250 pre-intregrated head. I do not know if the 292 takes a different mount or not. I looked for a LONG time to find this one.
I found 1 on E-bay last week and told a friend but he missed out on the bidding . It went for $99.00. Watch E-bay! I have seen several since I started but they bring $75-$125 with lots of activity. Good luck Bubba |
Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
The 6 cyl power steering setups show up every once in a while here in the '67-'72 classifieds. They might on the '73-'87 classifieds too, but I don't check there much.
That engine is looking sweet Vern! Hope to see it in person one of these days. |

[QUOTE=bubba327;3580243]Vernski-- I love your motor pictures. It that really an Offenhauser valve cover AND a Clifford intake??
Hi Bubba yeah that's an offy also the side covers match but have no name. I got the cover from Jegs and the side covers from Langdon's stovebolt, The intake is a Clifford, it is hot water heated, the carb is a Edelbrock # 1404 500 cfm w/manual chock. I rebuilt the stock one barrel twice and I could get it to idle the mid range was balky get the mid range right it wouldn't idle. It has a marine cam from Mercruiser but runs smooth from idle on up. The air cleaner came from ebay I can't remember the name right now but I have a slip somewhere. Thanx---Vernski:gmc2: PS to Cap thanx for the compliment, will bring it by but it may be in the spring right now it has some bare metal I need to get covered up.--Vernski |
Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
[QUOTE=Truck Dr.;3580244]The reason I was asking is that looks like the bracket from a 292, I got one from a guy parting out a 75 truck (I think it was) with a 250, ended up it was a 292.... it would not fit the 250 without a lot of mods, so I'm still looking for brackets for PS to fit a 250.
Hey Truck Dr check out this link this where i got my mount from he may still have some or could find you one, give him a PM ---Vernski:metal: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=355548 |

That's looking good! I'm kinda partial to those sixes as well. I had dual carbs on my 230 and then a Holley 390 before having the original 250 rebuilt to stock.
