I'm trying to build a resto custom. The paint will be blue with a white. Early Classic supplied the 4/6 suspension. powertrain consists of 406ci and 700r4 trans. When completed I hope to drive it as much as I can.

Good to see other truck guys so close . I have a friend that lives in Canton. Maybe next time I'm up there we can meet somewhere. Kevin is also building a '65 fleetside. I'll try to get him to check out the forum.

I have not made much progress lately on the cab. Started drilling the spot welds out for my old rockers and discovered that I need the dog leg pieces on the door hinge post. Those two pieces should be here Tuesday. That should give me enough time to get the bracing welded in. My brother-in-law found me a vintage 1965 Ga. tag that I'm thinking about running when the truck is completed.

Nice! I've been looking for a vintage set of plates for my truck too.

Re: My build so far

I know it's the wrong but back around Christmas I saw a set of Texas truck plates that new. These things were still in the original paper. Price $75.00.

I started repairing the floor on my cab and this is what I found. Yep nice southern truck. I guess this is what makes it interesting. I took Alan's advice and cut the outer rockers off. Glad I went ahead and bought the dog leg pieces. More pictures to come after getting everything braced up.

My American Bulldog/Boxer passed away at twelve years old a couple months ago. And this is my new garage mut. Her name is Bailey and is full blooded American Bulldog.. She should be a pretty good sized dog. The mother weighted 80lbs. and daddy weighed 115lbs.

Re: My build so far

Kinda looks like what I started with. About $600 in metal, $50 in wire, hours and hours of welding and grinding and you'll have a good cab. You have to love it.;) You did'nt have anything to do anyway.;) Love the dogs. The pup looks like he just took a dump somewhere.

greg65 06-15-2009 07:53 PM

Re: My build so far

Yea I bought every patch panel for the floor that I could find. Did not add up the invoices, don't want to know. I'm sure if I didn't spend money on that it would be something that I don't need like a LS1 drivetrain with a couple of turbos. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Here is a few pictures of my cab after the etching primer was applied. The name of the primer is omni. This stuff is transparent, you can still see the metal through it. The guy that sprayed it thinks we should clear it and start a new trend. Not my cup of tea I need paint.

monolith 06-16-2009 07:12 PM

Re: My build so far

I agree with your painter- I like the way the metal looks "plated" or like Titanium.

*ponders getting some of that primer instead of clear coating various bits*

greg65 06-16-2009 07:15 PM

Re: My build so far

The color is a light green. It's pretty wild when you can see some of the original stamping numbers through the primer.

Re: My build so far

Beautiful pup man! That cab's rough but thank God for patch panels and homemade dollies. How far are you from the Florida/Georgia line?

greg65 06-16-2009 09:25 PM

Re: My build so far

Yea I know it looks bad now but it should make a good one after repaired. My truck was a small back glass. I just had to have a big window cab . The original one was in better shape than this one. I am located northwest of Atlanta.

TwiggyTheDrummer 06-16-2009 09:46 PM

Re: My build so far

Yeah mine was pretty rough, not as bad but close. Luckily my Grandpa had been parking it under a shelter since he bought it in late 1962. It stayed that way until he needed the space and parked it in a field for 2.5 years before I got it. That greatly took it's toll.

It's cool that you get to restore your grandfather's truck. As for my cab being in "rough" shape, Iknew it needed work when I bought it. I really wanted a big window cab and that was the best one that I found. There were a few for sale on the west coast for around $600 -$700 plus about $1000 for shipping. So my "rough" cab of $250 plus the patch panel was a better deal.

I got a little free time so I welded in the bracing for doing the floor repair. The basement does not have the best lighting but maybe you can make out what has been added. Next time I'll push it outside for better pictures.

Re: My build so far

I was looking on craig's list a couple days ago and found a complete serpentine belt set up $75.00. The a/c compressor, water pump, p/s pump, alternator, and all the brackets and bolts. After talking to the seller Wednesday we decided to meet on Saturday. I called him today to set up a time and place and he sold the set up last night. Oh well better luck next time.
