Project Vitamin C-10

Edit date 12-5-2009
This is an edit I did 2.5 years after I started this project. I never knew it would be this long of a build. It is a story of my build plus other things that happen along the way. This is my first true frame off restoration. I've learned alot from this forum and thankful it is here for all of us to enjoy. So set back and enjoy the ride.

I hope this is the right place to do this. I want to keep a running story of my progress. I have already placed a few of these pics in the welcome area, but I want the pics in this thread to begin where I started. Enjoy

Look what my neighbor and fellow forum member (sdailey) found for me. It's a 1972 frame with 5 lug power disc brakes with booster and power steering. It also included 5 rallys rings and caps. The rotors are even new. I also picked up the bed from the same person. I couldn't pass it up.

Just an update. Not much going on with the truck. Frame is ready for sand blaster. I've got all new sheet metal including patch panels. The shop is coming along. The guy building it is on a 2 week vacation. It's driving me crazy, it's a good thing I am patient. I'm supposed to pick up another 66&63 LWB step side soon.

I'll update more later
Alan

Re: My 1965 build thread

Update:
Just picked up my 4" drop kit for rear and LSD carrier with 373 gear, and ordered 2.5" spindle drop, stainless brake line kit. I'm also getting the front tan leather power front seats out a 99 silverado (no console) this coming tuesday.

I'm planning on painting the truck hugger orange with tan leather interior.

I've already built the 383 and I'm putting a 700R4 behind it.

I'm planning on a paintable flammin river column.

I need some ideas for dash cluster.

The shop is at a stand still, I hope to get things rolling this next week.

Later
Alan

Re: My 1965 build thread

What are you thinking about for a dash cluster? Factory or ???

Alan's Classic 08-12-2007 12:32 AM

Re: My 1965 build thread

I really want to get some ideas (pics). Right now I'm thinking of using the factory bezel with some kind of round gauges with like an aluminum insert. But I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks
Alan

I got my frame back from the blaster. I let them prime it since I don't have a place to do it yet. I didn't know it would be a peach colored primer, but it will be covered soon with a gloss black or charcoal gray. I also drug home another truck, I couldn't pass it up. It's a running 55 SWB. It still has the 6 volt system. Someone bought it from an estate sale. It's sad the family didn't want to keep it.

I got my CO today. That means I can move into the shop. I can't fully move in yet. I need to get the sheetrock up on the ceiling before I get all my stuff in there. I should get my power meter set tomorrow. Maybe I can start working on the trucks soon. It has taken almost 4 months to get to this point. It has been well worth it.

It could be. The problem is I already see limited space once I get all of my crap in there.

I wish I could of finished the shet rock. I left it open for water and cable and maybe another door in the future. Plans might change once I start working in it.

Today is the first day I could really do anything, I didn't have much time, but I did get the cab braced up so i can cut the floor etc.

Let me know if you think it is braced up enough.

Shop looks nice!
Good luck with the rust repair. I just finished mine about a month ago. It is well worth it in the end when you have no rust.

Hung door and fender for first time. The gaps need a little work but not bad for first fit. The floor and floor support are just tacked in place. I still have inner kick, A post and inner and outer rocker.
