My name is Ben and i am sure some of you have seen these pics before but i was wondering what everyone thought of a truck choped and slammed like this pic?

Slammed = ...ok

Chop = no

Re: Chop Tops ???

I agree on no chop

ive only seen it done once where i liked it

dropped the roof 4 1/2 inches
angled back the a pillars
dropped the bed top down 3 inches
and brought the wheel arches down 3 inches

so it all looked in proportion

but that probably more work than you want to do

I like chopped trucks but that one is too much for me.... 2 or 2 1/2" would be my max. I also like them better with the "A" pillars cut, not leaned back.

Just my 2¢ worth...

if done right, it can look bad ass. I generaly go for the stock body... restomod if you will... but sometimes, you see one that just works.

Besides... it's a longhorn. So it's gonna be cool no matter what. ;) (talkin about the one in this reply)

Chop - :barf:

Slammed - OK

I have only ever seen one chop on these trucks that I like. It was in the Projects section, but I can't for the life of me find it. It was very subtle, and the body was completely wire wheeled, just shiney metal. Dang, now I really want to find that thread!!

Was that the one that had a ton of other body mods too? Like the hood was cut, and only the "top" opened, etc? Completely shaved, slammed, etc?

glock35ipsc 11-05-2008 11:14 AM

Re: Chop Tops ???

I think so. I don't remember if this was the one that the top of the hood opened or not though. I remember that mod, just can't remember if it was the same truck. I do remember lots of pics taken in the shop (large shop), and there were some taken outside on the grass. But yeah, shaved, slammed, I think a 67-68 front, maybe even a different dash altogether?

I dont like 'em either, but that silver one does look ok

I think chopped tops only belong on old rods and sleds...

My votes: Lowered = yes. Slammed = no. Chopped = no.

Only chop I've ever seen that looked "right" to me was this one, the Dale Earnhardt memorial show truck. Have to look twice, just to be sure it was really-really cut, the proportions are so well done.

Another problem with chopped tops is they leak if there not done right. My buddy had his 69 C10 chopped and it leaked like crazy.

Was that because it was chopped or because it also had the drip rail shaved?

Re: Chop Tops ???

If you want to slam it, get an air bag setup. Then you can drop it in the weeds when you want and raise it and still have drivability.

As far as the chop, it can be done right, but it's not for me.

It's your truck though, so do what you like! :)

Thanks Andy;).... That one is a 3 1/2 " chop (rear), tipped foward, to give right @ 4" in the front. The pillars are layed back, & she still gets a lot of attention running around town. At 5" 9", that is as short as I would cut one(dont fit me too bad......you just stop a couple lenghts back to see the stop lights)! I have seen some more radical cuts, & while I do think they look good on a shortbase truck, they are not easy to drive(unless you are 5 foot nothing). Im not as young as "I once was", & IMHO, a 2 1/2 -3 " chop is the way to go on these old trucks......just enough that you notice something is different.....but have to think about what it is;) crazyL

because of the choptop, the drip rails were not shaved.

Classic Trucks magazine did one. Not real drastic. Looked OK but I don't think its necessary.

Re: Chop Tops ???

I wanna say the only one I remember really liking was in a classic truck magazine. This one was chopped just a little, doors stretched a little, and the bed was sectioned. All done in small increments so you'd have to look twice. It was two tone blue and gray I think. A month or two ago? Now I gotta go look for it....

Do you like it? Thats the only thing that should matter.

Board member XXL has a super cool chopped truck.

Re: Chop Tops ???

some trucks look ok with a chop, but 95% come out looking inproportional..

but if you like it then do it, just build a truck that makes you happy.

but your not going to get too many guys on this site that favor a chopped top for these years of trucks

Re: Chop Tops ???

Well after being in Street Rod class i have grown to like the old led sleds. I think a 6" chop should do it. i am also going to take 2 beer kegs and turn them into my gas tank. As well, i just bought some 100 spoke 20's that i will media blast, prime and paint flat black. i am thinking of painting the truck flaat back with tented windows. There is plenty of head room in my truck so the chop will only bother me then i'm at a stop light. ha ha. Also, some one was talking about the roof leaking.. thats probible because they didnt fit the door to the cab, with the seal inplace. i'm sure everything will come out all right.
