Roller Lifter ?
While I have an LS in my truck I’m more old school and not really up on them
When looking at Cams they don’t offer cam and lifters like a flat tappet cam. I’ve hear it doesn’t matter cam to cam or order of Roller Lifters due to them being 1 Roller and 2 Hardened Can someone enlighten me a bit. Looking at new Cams and want to know if I can use my old lifters. Not having any problems with them just want more Cam Thanks |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
In regards to lifters I've reused the stock lifters on my LS swaps. But and it's a big but on my LS swap engines have always been low mileage engines. 25K or less.
Trouble is the LS7 lifters have gotten a bit pricey. I wouldn't run anything else. If you are going with a cam bigger than stock get better valve springs and lifters. |

You mentioned LS7 lifters, are they supposed to be better and be used in LS1?. I don’t mind the $ if it’s worth it Thanks |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
LS7 Roller Lifter part # 12499225 on Amazon for less than $100. WOW
Is this the right Part # LOL looks like it |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
Use what you want, but unless you can verify the LS7 lifter is a good brand, I would not touch them anymore. Too many fakes and junk out there masquerading as LS7 lifters.
Buy a set of Johnson or Morel lifters. They are probably going to set you back $300-$700, but they are not junk and considering you bought heads, cam, and all the other stuff, you might as well do it correctly. |

i would reuse yours too much risk going for cheap lifters currently dont forget the need to have the ECM tuned after the cam is installed |

A full set of real GM lifters is a nominal $400. Lots of fakes out there. I would re-use my originals. |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
For anyone else looking, please don’t buy LS7 lifters from amazon. Buy them from a known, reputable parts house.

Re: Roller Lifter ?
No chance I would buy LS7 lifters on Amazon. Since you are going to have the heads off you can inspect the stock lifters. If they look worn replace them. Maybe replace the lifter trays with GM trays.

Re: Roller Lifter ?
Anybody know anything about Morel brand name lifters. They say made in USA

I have a set of short travel link bar lifters in my LS engine. No problems so far. Johnson lifters are also good lifters. I have those in my LT engine. |

Re: Roller Lifter ?
I noticed the Morel lifters go for a nominal $210.
The real LS7 GM CHEVROLET PERFORMANCE LIFTERS - 12499225 are nominally $415. |

Re: Roller Lifter ?
I would feel comfortable with either of the USA made products.
Their are nothing but horror stories about China lifter failures that take the motor with them. Many are marketed as GM LS7 lifters but are nothing but Chinese knockoffs. LS7 lifters for $120 don't exist. |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
The company that I’m buying the head and can combo offers Morel lifters for $249 on sale for $219. Probably will go with them
Thanks All for the Input. I appreciate it |

You may want to check the RPM limit though. I seem to recall the lower end lifters having a 5500 RPM max versus 7000 or something for the higher end version. I am not sure how much you go to redline, but almost any LS/LT engine will easily go beyond that 5500 RPM limit if that is accurate. |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
I have really good luck with the BTR (Brian Tooley Racing) branded Delphi LS7 lifter packages. Their website shows out of stock but Summit carries them as well for $179.99, same price as BTR

The BTR site also lists these items as being "like 12499225" telling me they are not genuine OEM. DELPHI LS7 HYDRAULIC ROLLER LIFTERS - LIKE 12499225 I dont use these or any other lifters not actually equivalent to OEM. :mm::mm::mm: |

Use what you want, no one here is going to argue with you. P.S.Delphi & Eaton are the OEM manufacture for GM LS7 lifters. ;) |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
Seems I’ve opened a can of worms here. I do appreciate everyone’s input. Unfortunately it has me asking more questions. I know there’s knock off Crap out there, problem is how do you know if a reputable Dealer isn’t selling it. I have lots of home work to do now. My engine only has ~50,000 so I might just use what I have
Again, Thanks for ALL the good info |
Re: Roller Lifter ?
While you are sorting thru fakes.....I'm assuming your cam is going to require new springs. Everyone sells PAC springs. However, do not buy them unless you can confirm they are made by Peterson America Corp.

Re: Roller Lifter ?
A few year ago I purchased a set of LS6 springs through Ebay.
After hearing horror stories I purchased another set of springs through GM. All the Ebay springs had lower spring pressures than the OEM's. I measured them all and the ebay springs averaged 21 pounds less at the same compression length. Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) |
