had this car in the mid 80s.....LOVED IT!.....had cut springs (no such thing as drop spindles in those days) I had the bodyshop cut out and move the fenderlips higher like a stock car....had 275/50/15 T/As on all corners....built 350 4 gear.....slid off the road in a freak Sept snowstorm and basically totalled the car.....always said I wanted to do it again

I have a 300hp 350 that I'll put in the car to get it up and running.....once that is done we'll look fot the big hp "Bullet" prob somewhere between 5 and 600 hp.
Im getting at it in the garage......its really not that dark..must be the camera settings imagine the last pic of the Nova as a 69 Chevelle and thats the look and stance Im going after....... |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Dude, that is Bad@ss! It would be cool to build some flares over those, but the "open" look is wicked too.
|
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
very cool project... put some turn signals on it and make it street legal!

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
I hate what they did to that poor car. It looked killer! Of course, movies use several cars and the "Hero" car stays "pristine."

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
I love your car, it reminds me of the 70 Monte Carlo in the opeing scene in Fast & Furious-Toyko Drift.
|
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
This is cool on soooo many levels.
Get out in the garage and get at it, we need to see this one done---and soon. |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Subscribed. Awesome project. And we should all be lucky enough to have a friend with a personal racetrack!
|
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
hey thanks for all the replies.....should have known a bunch of truck guys would "get it" !.....in the last pics the body is just sitting on the chassis.....next order of business is to take the body to the media blasters and have the roof and some specific areas blasted, I'll go for a "driver paint job" as opposed to a "show winning paint job" I intend to drive the heck out of this car
I also need to freshen up the underside of the car (wire wheel/ prime/paint) then take the rolling chassis (only) to Peter Gibbons's race shop about 45 min from here and have him put what amounts to a road race set up in the car as opposed to the oval set up it has now so it can turn left AND right lol I'll keep you guys posted thanks Doug |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Biased opinion being a Chevelle owner myself; the '68-'69 are by far the "meanest" styling of the entire Chevelle line. Yours absolutely adds to that! What a combination, great work! I'm looking forward to more.

I love old round trackers, and that has got to be one of the coolest builds ever. Very original, I can't wait to see more :metal:

Do u wanna lend me some money to build one of these lol??? jk
Awesome project man. |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
I know projects go slow but i can't wait to see any updates. This is so cool to see two recycled cars married as one and then put on the street using the old race chassis.
You have seen it for years where guys buy old drag cars and put em on the street, but its VERY rare to see it done with a circle track car. |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Very cool build! Have you chosen a color combo yet?
|
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
heres some build pics....pulled the sheet metal off the racecar

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
then removed the body from the Chevelle

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
sold the rolling chassis to a guy for $750 then cut out the entire rusty floor and trunk pan out of the Chevelle with a sawsall and a torch.....the one pic is smokey had a decent little fire going on......the Chevelle came with no motor/trans, interior, wiring, cluster, not even a steering coloum...the car was parted out years ago and sat in a barn, nobody wanted it.....perfect car for me....It does have new quarters and came with a full title. speced out to a 307 powerglide car.

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Took a whole box trailer full of metal to the dump ,rolled the racecar underneath and slowly started lowering the Chevelle body over it.....on the first drop the body stopped about halfway down the A pillar of the cage, I estimate it took about 2hrs of work(cutting, measuring, eyeballing) for every inch it went down after that.....had to thin the rockers to get it to fit over....the good thing about the racecar is the rectangular frame rails are all perfectly straight, makes it easy to measure and work with.

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
