Got a new truck

It's a yellow 69 short stepside 1/2ton 4x4. some rust but it will be my wheeling rig. And my other truck is in the process of being fixed the gear and axle place guy said he hasn't seen a 203 with the style rear output housing that mine has so it maybe a while for that. But back to my new truck, 4speed sm465 granny low, unknown gear ratio, np205 tcase. Needs motor but will have that in it this weekend or next week.

Re: Got a new truck

What are the plans for building into a wheeling ride?

Mild dirt road riding kinda wheeling or leaning towards wild 'need a cage' kind of fun?

onlyifihadachevy 06-27-2009 09:34 PM

Re: Got a new truck

cage is a must and will be built within weeks but it will be pretty much a full wheeler once we get a trailer. But leanin towards 33 maybe 35 because its a 1/2ton. Untill a get a d60/14 combo then trying to get some 44s. And a winch will be on before winter hopefully.

vtblazer 06-28-2009 05:52 AM

Re: Got a new truck

44's are pushing the limits of that D60/14bff combo, truth be known.

A set of Dedenbear (now REID) knuckles, some 4340 alloy axles shafts w/super duty u-joints in that D60 will add a lot of strength and mainly will add more durability to getcha home.

Here's a great place to find all that stuff, ask for Doug, he's a great guy to deal with.
http://extremeaxlesales.com/contact-us.aspx

Then there's the one ton drive lines and joints you'll be needing... ;)

onlyifihadachevy 06-28-2009 12:22 PM

Re: Got a new truck

yea i know that 44s will be on the limit but, i feel that it will be light enough that i will just need different knuckles, and 1 ton drives will be a must but they don't always hold up to as seen the this video. my uncles ford broke the cv joint in the front of the rear line, the bushing in the center of the rear and the front twisted.

Re: Got a new truck

ok, no to insult your uncle but when you are acting like Bigfoot you pay the price for not being Bigfoot!

If anyone on here knows extreme wheeling it's vtblazer...

onlyifihadachevy 06-28-2009 07:48 PM

Re: Got a new truck

he knows he was glad that he broke it now, because he knows he will need stronger drivelines for truck pulls. He also thinks the rear axle maybe blown if thats the case he will be getting 4.88s which is also something hes been wanting.

And i always see vtblazer poping up with tech for hardcore wheeling.

Re: Got a new truck

i took off the doors, pressure washed the truck, got my motor from the parts truck out, was going to put it in right then and couldn't firgure the motor mount brackets out. But i think i have it fgured out thanks to someone here on another thread, but am still wondering about if the plastic mount on the motor are different from 2wd to 4wd. But, on monday i will try to put it in then, i have a list.
Put motor in
Take off bed
Get it running
Buy some dom and airshocks
Build roll cage and 4link
Get a rear driveline

I'm trying to get the airshocks at the same time as the dom so i can cut the frame then build the shock mounts for the 4link into the cage shorting the wb a little and get a great departure angle. And making it a lot lighter.

Re: Got a new truck

picked up a 14bolt for this and a d44 to fix my other truck, going next wekend to pick up a d60 or d70 frontend bigger than most d60s i have seen its a closed knuckle the only down side but its really really really cheap. And 2 military 1ton five lugs. And my dad roll the exploder on its side but we made it home and me and my friend were fine but my dad messed up his hand and had a bloody nose but everyone was safe.

pics in a few minutes.

Re: Got a new truck

Re: Got a new truck

anyone know here i can get a motor mount bracket for the passager side. Thats the only thing holding me back till i have the motor in it so i can go wheeling.

Re: Got a new truck

I might have a couple I can send.. will find out tonight..

onlyifihadachevy 07-09-2009 11:24 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I think if i finish my white truck that i will just use the 2wd motor mount stuff and custom make a x-member because I have really been wanting to go wheeling, and the motor is the main part slowing me down on this one And money But mainly the motor because i have most the stuff to build it.

onlyifihadachevy 07-10-2009 11:57 AM

Re: Got a new truck

They d60 or d70 what ever it is is 8x6.5 bolt pattern and the military axles are 5 lug and look like a d60 but aren't and i will get pics of them sunday when i get them or next weekend it my dad has to work.

Re: Got a new truck

well last night i picked up the closed knuckle d60 going to see about getting a disc brake kit for it, it was free and its a lot better than a closed knuckle drum brake half ton, still going to get a open knuckle in the future. I got the motor almost put in then realized i didn't have the motor mount on one side or the spare motor mount for my other truck in my other truck so it will be in tomarrow. Then going to install the front this week most likey. And get the bed off soon.

There not great so i will get a pic tomarrow, and yes my dads friend has some weird storage places ,but hes pretty cool. And yes we used a cherry picker to put it in the truck. Its from a 79 chevy dump truck or something the lug nuts are 1in and it was in the truck at 10:30 and then we helped put some stuff away got home at around 12. I ate went to sleep and woke up at 6 in the morning to drop it off at my uncles shop. Worked most the day on my trucks. Found out it has 4.88s, found that by dividing 39 by 8 found it came to 4.875 which rounded comes to 4.88s.

Re: Got a new truck

i have to take off the bumpstop because it didn't fit with in it because of the power steering pump on my donor motor. But i should have it moving by the weekend.

70 beast 07-14-2009 11:12 PM

Re: Got a new truck

you going to run the 4:88 gears? or go lower?

onlyifihadachevy 07-15-2009 12:15 AM

Re: Got a new truck

4.88s should be good for offroad only and eventually 44s, the only gears i could run is 5.13s or 6.27s if they make them for the 60 and 14b. If i find my gearing not to be low enough when i switch to a th350 i will build a 203/205. I found that 4.10s and 35s and th350/203 in low and 1st was great offroad but could spin them pretty good when needed how i broke it and could do about 75-80 on the highway reving it out.

Re: Got a new truck

sounds good.
what about suspension?

onlyifihadachevy 07-15-2009 10:36 AM

Re: Got a new truck

Air shocks 18in of travel in rear with a 4 link and the front stock 52s and and shackles to raise a little if need the and the rear shackle will be longer to push the front end front a little.

onlyifihadachevy 07-15-2009 09:48 PM

Re: Got a new truck

Me and my dad got the engine in bolted up just need a few more things to have it running the rad, clutch rods, brake booster and master need to be hooked up. put the front end in when i get the matching rear end. ANd a roll cage and rear 4 link when i get some more money.

Dude your rolling right along. wish i had the motive to work on my junk like you!

p.s. i wasnt calling your stuff junk, just mine

onlyifihadachevy 07-15-2009 11:34 PM

Re: Got a new truck

Its junk, i would take a pic of my rockers but there mainly gone and the hole in the roof, but its because i get mad when i don't have a release so i was paintballing every weekend spend 2000+ on guns, tanks hoppers, cloths, and around maybe a lot more than 4-5000 on the playing in the place on balls and air fees and air fees, then me and my dad found that during the winter we couldn't play so we decided to go wheeling more then we just got my first truck i broke it then we got the tow fee and then we decided to get another truck for offfroading only and use the other as a tow rig and they're both coming together at the same time. Which forces me to get as much done as possible and my dads friends are going a lot more and saying that i'm building it wrong and the axles will just sink but I'm going to do my best to prove them wrong. And the summer is almost over then i won't be at my uncles shop as much then i won't get much done except wheeling and fixing what gets broke.

Re: Got a new truck

trust me...there's always time for these old irons.
i got to college full time and work full time so with a day that starts round 6am and ends round 11pm :(, finding time gets tough.
but somehow i always find time.:metal:

onlyifihadachevy 07-16-2009 11:28 AM

Re: Got a new truck

My goal is have it drivable and go wheeling with it on the 25th for the maiden run. It will be 1/2t still and most likey no cage yet then build the cage before i go again.

70 beast 07-17-2009 08:26 AM

Re: Got a new truck

sounds like a plan.

thats about the time i want to have my jimmy driving also.

onlyifihadachevy 07-17-2009 11:58 AM

Re: Got a new truck

did you find out the hubs i think you only need the hubs if the wheel stays on with out the nut kit because i was messing with my other trucks front end and i needed the kit because the rotor and hub i have.

onlyifihadachevy 07-17-2009 09:16 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I cut something for the clutch down shorten it 1 3/4 " and had it welded back together and put it on and the tabs are in the wrong place, so monday im cutting a tab off and going to have it welded on. And My uncle,His worker and me are going to start on the cage, and the rear 4 link, near the end of the week i think. Because not much before its running. I learned how to media blast so i was blasting a few think i was puting on and painting them black. Pics in a little.
