K5 getting altitude adjustment in Dec (update 12/16)

and I am not talking driving to Colorado.

I am not going to kid you- it is just a cruiser with moderate offroading. I think it is going to look sharp.

However, since I am patient and have 2 young children, and since the holidays are coming up, I will have little to no time to do this work in Dec.

here's the new shoes-

Nice looking wheels...I haven't made up my mind on the tires yet....I do wonder how they will last.

redz 1970 K5 11-27-2004 07:27 PM

It is an all terrain, supposedly not very good in mud, decent in sand, good highway manners, and awesome tread wear. Guys are reporting 40K miles with the set, and based on my 5k miles a year driving at MOST, that is long enough!

2wdBlazer 11-28-2004 01:27 AM

Do yourself a favor and get the 4:56's. I am still running 3:73's and it is a flat out pig. 4:56's will not be over-kill, it is what you need.

redz 1970 K5 11-28-2004 04:17 AM

Shoot, I forgot the TH350 had a lower 1st gear ratio then a 700R4... It is 2.52:1 vs. 3.06:1 for the 700R4.

I guess I will have to drive it and see. I am sure 2nd and Drive wouldn't be too bad, since that puts the engine in a good part of it's power/torque curves anyways, but 1st is in question.

JayDubBlazer 11-28-2004 04:58 AM

Sweet looking dubs

bouncytruck 11-28-2004 02:06 PM

I like those wheels. Sounds like you worked the deals on your lift! Can't wait to see it all on there.

Consider upgrading to 4.10's if you don't go with the 4.56's. My first Blazer had 3.73's with 35's and it was a dog compaired to my '69 with 4.10's on 35's (both 350/TH350 combos). My '72 has 3.07's on the stock tires and it is a little too high of gearing too.

It will be slow off the line and it will not be in the power band a cruising speed. I can get up to 75 mph but there is no power at all when you are there. See for your self. Oh, post pics too!

redz 1970 K5 11-29-2004 03:47 PM

Cool!

Cethern 11-29-2004 04:24 PM

That is a good deal for all that stuff...

bouncytruck 11-29-2004 10:47 PM

LUV - I doubt I'll do any off-roading in my '72 either. Stock 350, stock TH350, stock 3.07's, stock tires, etc. I guess I shouldn't plan on getting in any street races with you.

useRc10 12-02-2004 11:57 PM

i was thinking about those tires for my '85 but the mixed reviews are concerning me...i want to have decent offroad ability, mostly on road driving though...they do look pretty sweet

I hope 9" of lift is enough...

They'll fit!! Get on it, I need to see some pics. :D

Here is the BL update-

Time to get started...
http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/1...r/IMG_0006.JPG

Projects always start off nice and orderly... I segregated all of the poly mounts and lift pucks to make the install easier. By the end though, stuff still ended up everywhere! :D

Good piece of spare 6061 tube for lifting the body

redz 1970 K5 12-16-2004 01:32 PM

How she stands now-

http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/1...r/IMG_0019.JPG

Getting the AT linkage extended, then I need to take it to the shop and get the front frame horns cut and welded up to get rid of the gap.

If ANYONE considers a body lift, don't even attempt use of the original body mounts. Mine were shot to a point of disbelief. Since I did poly mounts at the same time (and I replaced all shims), my doors actually open and close easily now! Alright!

I am going to try and get the springs on soon...

redz 1970 K5 12-16-2004 01:41 PM

Since I am between trucks right now, and the K5 is down I had quite a quandry... How to get 38s home from work.

I figured it out...

Who says these imports aren't good for anything? :D

bouncytruck 12-16-2004 01:46 PM

They look huge in the trunk of the econobox! Keep the progress photos coming.

On a side note, are you on the sales side of your company? If so, I need a better supplier for 6061 bar stock then who I have right now. They have the worst cuts and the worst service I have seen, but since I don't have time to shop around, I hang around with them. Not to mention since they are a reseller I get huge variations from lot to lot, so it's tough to optimize machining processes.

Would be individual... Ah well.

redz 1970 K5 12-21-2004 12:26 PM

Aiet, pics on the 38s.

Before you ask, yes I have 6" springs and 2" rear blocks waiting to go on, and no I can't drive it without some fender trimming (which I am not going to do). I am VERY happy with how it is turning out. Good stance, good tire and wheel selection, man oh man I can't wait to drive it again!

Looks good keep us posted on the lift....

redz 1970 K5 12-23-2004 03:15 PM

Will do... Looking at a mid-end January completion, but I am not in a rush, especially since I just closed a deal on a new truck and the old lady is up in arms right now.

Slick71 12-23-2004 05:22 PM

Lookin Tuff! It'll really sit up there with those 6" springs. :metal:

useRc10 12-23-2004 11:17 PM

keep us posted once you get your own review on the tires...i'm leaning more towards M/T Baja Claw Radials or BFG Mud Terrains now but I would like to hear how those do in all different terrains.
