Cruise Control Pics installed
Hi All!
Any pics of Factory cruise control installed, especially the engine compartment? for 1972 I have some cruise master transducers and need to see placement on fender well. Jeff Smith Pensacola, FL |
Mee too please
I have come accross some cruise parts, but am missing the transducer, and am strill wondering what is correct for installation.
I heard it was never factory installed, but there was a GM accessory kit which probably specified where to put the parts. I have some pictures I collected of the parts ( lever, harness, etc) if you want to vieew them. Just let me know. |
Here are part of the original install directions. I have another sheet at home that shows where to actually drill the holes I will post it tonight.

Mine is so original; I wonder if there is anyone out there that can service and re-build these so that it is restored correctly?
The diaphram boot inside I think usually breaks, like on Tri-power set-ups. I am going to have to be really careful when I remove this thing! |
700r4
Has anyone ever installed one of these with a 700r4 behind a big block?
Chance |
That looks to complicated, just put a brick on the gas pedal.

I always think of a loaded C10 700R4 with CC on 82-86 Chevy V8 applications! Caprices are very similar! I usually base my application upgrades on these! The CC stud stands out farther than the studs for the gas pedal cable and the TV cable. This gives you a better connection for instalation needs! GM thought that one out well! |
Anyone got a spare manifold bracket / cable?
This is all really great info., but can I ask if someone has a manifold bracket and secont throttle cable to the servo the want to sell?
|
Manifold bracket? The one at the rear of the carb for the cable?
|
Here are the rest of the install directions, happy to share them. Sorry for the crappy sized images, hopefully they will help.

I just took one off my 72 marked "dana" could this be factory? The box with the speedo cables is more of a rectangle than in the pics but every thing else looked the same.
|
Do any of you have the speedo cable from the treansducer to the speedo head?
|
yes! its still assembled on my truck...did you need a pic of it?
|
Well... actually I need one...I shoulda said that.
|
Dana
72Jimmy - I believe the units marked DANA are aftermarket. I have several of them on 73 & up trucks. I also see them on Chrysler Corp pickups and vans. I don't normally look at F*rds so I couldn't tell you about them.

How long is it?
Also, can't tell from the pic, is one end smaller than the other? (the part that you spin on) |
LongHorn DUDE:
What is the direction on this that you are trying to achieve? Do you need a cable? so that you can find one in a yard or something???? |
No, I need one for my truck.
The short cable on mine snapped a couple weeks ago at the begining of a road trip. |
is it the cable you need? or is the jacket housing broken too?
|
If you need a cable, take a long cable out of a donor car, cut it down and angle cut the ends so that it feeds correctly into the back of the gear it is needed for....

That process is called Swedging!
Most likely these were hydraulically pressed on a machine to square that up from the round cable shape to this sqaure shape! Throttle cable places that repop Camaro stuff can do this for you! And...This ain't cheap! Sorry! :( |
I kinda figured it was a press that did this. Even so, I tried using a shop press, vice grips, even a hammer.
Yeah, i still need a cable. :( I thought I hit the jack pot in the junk yard, I found a later model speedo cable, with a plastic end cap on the cable. it looked like it was placed on a predetermined cut to length cable. I grabbed this, and figured i could simply pop the end off of the cable, cut to the length I needed, and glue it back on. Nope. That didn't work either. :( |

Both ends of the cable were square. I'm talkin the cable it's self, not the housing.Just like the one you pictured...
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...d=164022&stc=1 Tomorow, i'll look at mine and see if I am mistaken on cable length...and see if there is a way I could use a 4 footer if mine was shorter. What would you want for that? |
I wonder that you might check speedo cable lengths from car to car and find one that is relatively close, and just assume the extra inch(s) in order for it to be operable once again!
Speedo cables on the Camaros were different from application to application, and quite possibly may result in a length useable in our Trucks...It's a thought! |

If you have an end to end measurement for the cable, and end to end measurement for the complete cable with jacketed housing, we could start looking for you from there......
|
OK, it took me an extra day...but I just measured my cable.
30 inches...so we are talkin less than 3 foot. I can compensateup to about 6 inches either way by relocating my transducer for or aft on the fenderwell. but i can't see milking a foot out of it though. :( |
