Pre-Runners 73- 87 Any pics

Does anyone have pics of pre-runners for our years, you know the one with the molded out fenders, lifted, full bed suspension for the rear end?

Jon did you ever find a front kit for our trucks? I'm needing a new front end kit and would love to get a prerunner style to lift mine up.

Prerunner1982 10-11-2005 09:24 AM

i havent looked in awhile... but as far as i know... the only "lift" kits available are coils, and tubular control arms.. like from fabtech... 4" lift cost $1400... umm no thanks... I would rather have lift spindles.. and will possibly work on that when i have the $$ or someone can give me the parts i need..

Eyegore 10-11-2005 10:32 AM

Thanks jon, I heard the fabtech were not that good, very over rated mainly paying for a name brand. Their website does list some parts but they don't seem to carry them.

billybob750 10-12-2005 12:06 AM

where can a guy get those fenders?

I hear ya on that $$$. Where can you find the raised spindles? I always see the lowered ones but not the raised. Too bad we just can't flip the lowered ones LOL!!

Prerunner1982 10-12-2005 03:29 PM

B.. AIM use to make lift spindles but dont anymore.. nobody does...

79BIG10 10-13-2005 02:51 AM

Damn that just sucks. Do they not realize how popular our trucks are and then how many people want to specialize them to what we want? Come one vendors give us the goods :D

I have a crazy question???? What the hell is the point of a rounded off fender on a square body truck that is lifted anyway? Please help me to understand this concept. It looks dumb and unoriginal, especially the 88-98 on the 73-87body.

Re: Pre-Runners 73- 87 Any pics

Most of these trucks have like 16 inches of suspension travel and a round flare in fiberglass is easier and cheaper to make then a a box or square flare would be.And if they only make round flares your kinda stuck using them or making your own.

Besides the 88-98 on the 73-87, like the red one I posted above what other one(s) are you talking about?

Some people like the look of the 88-98 front/rear ends on the 73-87s, at least when they are flared they don't look too bad. When someone tries to put a stock stepside bed on one though the body lines don't line up, but the 88-98 fiberglass is actually a conversion specifically for the 73-87.
Also when you are flaring and bulging it is hard to keep it "square" like the stock fender.

some people run the newer clips cuz the class rules say so

"body may noy be older than 10 or 15 years old"

they let change the front sheet metal or glass instead of changing the cab Rules are rules

someone correct me about the dates, but ive read it somewhere

Re: Pre-Runners 73- 87 Any pics

not sure on the grill and what not but the fenders are full fiberglass i believe he said it was either a 5" or 7" flair the hood is a solid fiber glass no hindges its just set on posts with the quick release pins it has a pre-runner style front bumper with the skid plate 2 hella lights on it
the cage is kind of bulky but works and its a weld in not bolt on its got the 2 race style buckets and a center fold down seat/console out of an 02 silverodo haha it was a pain in the ass trying to fit the 2 12" subs 6speakers and 2 amps in that the cage like raps around behind the seats
the rear fenders are also fiberglass no tailgate has a custom tubed bumper for the rear also with the rack in the back for the spare tire
color bmw black
thats about all i know of it from doing the system and alarm in it
couple more i found

Re: Pre-Runners 73- 87 Any pics

1) Please define "pre-runner."

2) Can you recommend any good websites/magazines/races(i live on the east coast so it may not be feasible) that can illustrate what i need----i need ideas on how to mount the fenders and hood so as to make them quick-release so as to fascilitate easy engine access.

3) Does anyone know of any companies that sell bolt-in roll bars/ cages for the 73-87 series trucks? Yes, i know bolt in is not as good as weld in, but i'll explain later......

tell me about the bolt in roll bar you want?

TheSunDanceKid 01-18-2010 12:03 AM

Re: Pre-Runners 73- 87 Any pics

they sell bolt up fenders not sure of the sites and what not but the ones on that truck just bolt up factory locations as for the hood doing quick releases its not really easyer access all it is is 4 metal studs that you just drill a holes in the hood and the studs are bolted on the core support and cowl area and just screw the cables with the quick releases in the only issue with having all 4 done there is no hindges so it just comes completly off to access the engin and usally would need 2 people to remove its kind of a pain
cage off the top of my head jegs has some for a decent prices for 73-87 not sure if they are bolt in or not but if they have the flat plat on the ends you just drill holes and get another thick plate of metal the same size and put it on the underside of the truck

In addition to Hannemann (already mentioned) another 'glass fender company is Glassworks Unlimited.

1) Technically... a pre-runner is a vehicle used to pre-run (hence the name) a track prior to the racing event so that the drivers get a chance to see the coarse. A lot of times the pre-runner is a truck prepared close to the race vehicle specs so that it performs similarly over the same terrain.
Now the term is used to describe any "lifted" 2wd....

2) You might google search prerunner forum and search/read them. I used to be a member of a handful, but have not been to them in awhile. All the events are on the west coast (California, Arizona, Mexico, Nevada, etc)... I did find some races in NC, WI, and MI.. they are more "stadium trucks" races than desert Baja type with a stock 2wd truck class..
http://www.torcseries.com/schedule.php
As far as quick-release... http://www.magnumforceracing.com/quick_release.asp

3) Nope...but never had a reason to look either.

Basically one that i can bolt in with no drilling or other modifications. i want one in order to be able to mount gauges w/out drilling into the dash; i know, this is probably not the best way to go about it, but it's one of the only few solutions i've come up with.

Keep the info coming everyone!
