Re: Show us those Burbs
Finally got my 87 Burban up and running. Still needs some work but I just finished installing a 15" suspension lift from customsuspension.com and a 3" body lift. Also just put a brand new 350 bored .60 over. Those are 44's in the picture. Planning on either putting the new super swamper TRUXUS 44X 21X 16 or Mickey Thompson 46's

Why so many shocks in odd places, you do realize that as a shock gets closer to parallel with the motion of the suspension the less it does right? so the extra fronts appear to be useless to me |
Re: Show us those Burbs
wow hobbs, looks good, a few years older than mine

Re: Show us those Burbs
Thanks Bob---the rear shocks on the ladder bars -as you say-help with axle wrap; but also vastly improve the ride on the tens of thousands of miles this rig drives on dirt roads each year for my work....Fron the dalton hgwy to yellow knife in the yukon...and so many more..
72 chevy-thanks for the concern-but the front shocks on the front ladder bars are not shocks at all, but steering stablizer's---and not only vastly improve the ride-but help keep the axle stright as a arrow in all kinds of conditions -on dirt roads and wet muddy pavement as well as icey roads which we drive on here 5 months out of the year...infact the ride is so improved that once you drive a rig with front ladder bars you will be amazed at how well the front end handles, again.in all kinds of conditions...it is truley amazing and helps tires wear better and keeps ball joints from wearing out sooner....just think of the pressure your front end has on it with the force of driving foreward;;it is so much force that it's illegal to run front lift blocks for this reason;;and what really keeps the axle stright--springs that have all types of side way motions...and maybe a torsion bar,, well we have --after 3 years work and testing designed this 4 ladder bar system to keep the truck going down the road strighter and with a better ride and less fatiuge on steering parts.. we have allready proven this with the first 26.000 road test for procomp who makes the best ladder bars-we believe....Anyway procomp is figuring to offer this kit we have designed running 4 ladder bars for chevy trucks from 73-87-so please wish us luck and watch for us in the magazines as this system is comming out later this fall or spring of 07 is a few 4x4 and chevy magazines as the newest idea to make your suspension work better--actually its just a old idea with a new face....the kit will be kind of spendy but with searching around and doing it all yourself you can put it toghter fairly cheap.... one thing for certain-with these on-this suburban is one of the most unreal rigs i have ever driven.... Nice bunch of suburbans folks-some real beauties...here in alaska were suburbans are king-you.d be the envy of all... UP HERE WE CALL THEM ALASKA CADDILAC'S THANKS AAB |

I know they also limit axle articulation, but to be honest, there's really nowhere to 'wheel here in Rhode Island, so I'm not that worried about it. Plus, I used hitch pins to attach the heim joints to the mounting brackets on the X, and a quick disconnect for the swaybar. If need be, I can have the traction bars and swaybar disconnected in under 10 minutes. :) |
Re: Show us those Burbs
I guess those of us who drive 91's are left out. Been trying to post pix's and the only one I can get up here is my profile. What your doing sound's good because my 91 suburban has alot of play in it I don't like. I was told about $400. to fix it. I almost forgot I would really like to see some more pix's of the top of your SUBURBAN ((( ALASKA ALUMINUM BEAR )))

Re: Show us those Burbs
BOB-GET-ER-DONE...I know full well-to well what you mean about towing the trailer,as we both have had the same experience. I like the excersion mod--post it--even if it is a ford--helps folks with ideas and do please post it when you do the burb....I grew up on the beaches form ri to cape cod--and the best memories i had when i was a kid--was 4x4 down Quany beach with the ribba...rhode island beach buggy asc....fishing for stripers and blues....are the beaches still open to rigs back there....as i was bringing this rig to fish for stripers later this fall in RI....Please let me know what its like now back there...and i like the get- er done..moto of yours...
91burb lane---i think the posting has nothing to do with your 91 and everything to do with one of the big tire rigs up in this post---i am on dial up and every time i load this page--my comp..gets stuck there for over 15 minutes---i believe its something with the system not the pic.. i have other shots of the rig and the engine--on a page here last year before we rip it all apart again for over a few dozen new systems search for other pages were it shows suburban---and when we are done in about 3 weeks--will repost alot of the suburban to show the new stealth ram and elec master cylinder and stainles exhust system....but that all i got for photos now--sorry.... |
Re: Show us those Burbs
Sent a PM regarding RI beaches, let me know if you need any more help with that!
The Excursion is hardly ever home when I am (wife's vehicle, she takes it to work), but I'll try to snap some pics next time it's available. Making the bars for the Burb is on a long list of things that needs to be done to it, but I'm trying to finish that up within the next few months. |

Nice photo of very nice truck. Those autolock hubs gotta' go, though!
Here's mine... Sorry, files to large, but here's something else to chew on, seen on I89 just outside Burlington, VT... Can't do it, Coloradok5.com automatically re-sizes files. A bit beyond my scope... oh well... :dum: |

Attachment 208551
Attachment 208552 This was my 88 Suburban. It replaced an 89 with ALOT of mileage. (we switched grill/core support...I always liked the 89 best) My husband did some wheeling and dealing....and aquired his sister's used 02 Escalade for me to haul the kids in....But the Burb had to be sold....I miss that truck! My boys called it 'Mommy's Monster Truck'...That tag doesn't fit the Caddy! (But I hate to admit the Caddy pulls a loaded down car trailer a bit better than the old Burb did--will pull out tree stumps just as well--and gets better gas mileage to boot!) We sold it to a friend of ours who baby's it as much as I did! At least it's still in good hands. |
