I put this in the 4x4 section, but it doesnt see alot of traffic, so am posting it here too.


ok. I am going to get an 8" suspension lift (skyjacker soft ride). and am gonna put 1" zero rate add a leafs in the rear to not only correct saggy butt, but also relocate the axle to where it should be in the fenderwell. am also going to be putting new body mounts, while im in there will be putting in a 1" body lift. just because 1" wont be bad, and ill be in there anyway.

my question is. with a total of 9" front and 10" rear. do you think i will be ok to run 39.5-13.5-16 Irock radials?

I do not want to do ANY cutting whatsoever.

A stock Blazer will hold 33's (like mine). I've had a 4" lift with 35's. It's safe to say your gonna be able to fit those tires. 39.5's are eggs though. Highway wawa will be prominant. Rotate those suckers every month. Make sure that no one with a convertable is behind you while tread flies off :)

I think that is what 2wdblazer is running on his big yellow rig. He off-roads it pretty hard too.

There is a guy that lives near me with 6" of lift running 39's. He said that his suspension is so stiff there isn't any give. Most of the give is in the tire side walls. I wouldn't recommend going with that little of a lift.

No way. Don't even try it. 9 inches all the way around on mine and the fronts will hit hard with real 38's. If those are true 39's you are in trouble unless it is a street queen.

I have 6 inch suspention and 3 inch body. Next tire time I will go 37's or upgrade to 8 inch springs.

Alright. well im kind of stumped now then. I can live without the body lift. I will just replace my body mounts. but I am still going to get the 8" softride all spring lift, and run the zero rates in the rear. to relocated teh axle and help saggy butt...

I want to retain my 16" wheels.

think 37" Irocks would be too small?

BTW why would your axle need to be relocated? Are you using a shackle flip?

First gen may be different, but I had 8" suspension and 3" body. 40's fit fine. Then had new 39.5 boggers and no problems. This was on a 1990 though...

With 8"s of lift the 37's did okay (first pic) but with the 39.5's it was a different story all together.
I've made it work but had to install bump stops in order to save my fenders.

Don't forget that your fenders are already trimmed. This guy is like me, NO trimming will be seen in his application. Don't want him thinking all he needs is bump-stops. The rear of the front fenders is where I get the only rubbing, but it is massive.

Absolutely, didn't intend any confusion.
I had started to edit the post earlier to mention that very thing but never had the chance to finish. :rolleyes:

2wdBlazer is correct, even with the 37's the fenders were trimmed out where they tend to hit the worst.

Hmm... I have 6" suspension and 3" body for 9" with 36's and obviously they dont rub, however I wouldnt want to fill the fender wells anymore for looks. But thats just my preferance.

What's the intent of real usage?
Show job - Pavement pounder - Mild wheeler (no such thing)
or real world/gonna use it 'cause I built it' 4x4 trail use blazer?

It's said, start with your tire size and build from there but with 39.5's trimming is going to be on the schedule if trail use is what it's for.

I certainly commend the 'no cutting' approach but it will be 'the' limiting factor for tire size choice.

BobbyK wheels hard with 33's and a stock suspension
Burt4x4 is running a 35/36 inch tire and wheels more than most, both without any trimming.

Here is 6'' of lift and 35'' tires and yes they rub on the front fendersat full lock the wheels are 15x12's if you go with a narower wheel they may not rub.. Pont has 8'' of lift on his 67 with15x14''s and they also rub the front fender..

antoher consideration is rim width. If you go with a really wide wheel, like maybe even a 12" you can get a taller tire under less lift. I had 35x12.5 on 8" and now run 36x14.5 on 10" and the truck sits the same as it did with the 35s although different tire measure diffently.


another thought is i had 32x16 eagles on my dragcar, changed to M/T 32x16.5 and the m/t are rediculously narrower although the size is bigger.

Goodyear measure across the tread and M/T measure acoss the buldge. and they are about 1.5 is shorter on the same wheel.
