project draggin k5
well i went all the way to colorado to get this 78 chevy k5, it was originally 4x4 and converted to 2wd the crossmember has been Zed 3 1/2 inches and has belltech drop shackles and flip kit, original paint, and all the interior is still there, oh it only has 61k original miles, i am the second owner, have all the original windows stickers and glove box sticker, also the owners manual. today i rolled it into the shop took off the front clip to plate the rest of the frame, well i didnt get to plating but i did swap out the original 10 bolt rear for my 12 bolt out of another truck i own, i also took the flip kit out, only so i can mock up my motor and not worry about bangin the ground. im taking it to my friend joe at outlaw motorsports for a four link rear bag setup soon anyway. i will update with pics tomorrow, let me know what you think, thanks

Re: project draggin k5
did that used to belong to a board member "mile high toyz"??? I think he had one just like that.
anyway looks cool |
Re: project draggin k5
I agree that has got to be milehightoyz old blaze, he was building it the same time i was doing my 88' k-5 4wd to 2wd conversion.

Re: project draggin k5
Ditto..i was going to say it looked familiar from this web site.
Interesting on the frame hack though. With some more gusseting it looks to be a very feasable way to go. DW |
Re: project draggin k5
not sure if it was his or not, but i did get it from parker, colorado. i will be plating the rest of the frame this weekend so i canget my motor in it, im tryin to atleast have it running to go to heat wave in austin.

Re: project draggin k5
got some plating done, about to drop the motor in to see what (if any) mods need to be done to the fire wall.
|
Re: project draggin k5
Hope you took some pics of the finished plating job before you dropped that motor in....lol. Kinda curious thats all.

Re: project draggin k5
that looks nice. i"ll be at heatwave hope to see it there.
|
Re: project draggin k5
What a drop! I've never seen anyone do that before. Just curious to see how it goes into dips and speed bumps. Are you going to bag it as well?
|
Re: project draggin k5
Man thats looks awsome
can you turn it at all like that? those front tires are burried . |
Re: project draggin k5
the pics are gonzo , but this was the build thread of THAT blazer, damn I want one now , anyone want a bagged and drop membered 64 swb with a clean body in original paint with a strong 350?

Re: project draggin k5
hahaha....that looks familiar....i traded that blaze to my buddy mike in parker to get my bagged 68 burb back, then the bagged 68 burb went back on ebay to a guy in cali, now my blaze ended up in texas......small world.... thats a 3.5" z.....i never really thought of it as scary but.....i guess if you are a bit squeemish it might be a little frightening??? that 1/4" flat bar is on the inside just as an added bonus, it is fishplated with 1/4" plate on the outside of the rails as well. give ya 5 bucks if you can break it!! was gonna finishin plating the bottom and boxing it in for cosmetic purposes but never got to it. good luck with the project. i still got the trans xmember i fabbed for that thing sitting in my shop too.

Re: project draggin k5
i've run into an issue with the upper control arms, the studs on the passenger side upper are loose in the frame, can i tap them back in or should i have a shop do it for me?? please help!!

Re: project draggin k5
when you switched to 2d drive, did you just swap in front crossmember from the 2wd drive?
|
Re: project draggin k5
no i didnt swap crossmembers, i found a two wheel frame and swapped them out. im looking for another frame now, im going to do a full frame build while i drive the blazer and then swap the body on to the new frame, then probly sell the existing frame.
|
Re: project draggin k5
yeah thinking of doing the same thing just trying to figure out which one is easier, i got both, dont dig 4wd but the body straight wires are all good 2wd is f-ed up.
