Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

Does anyone know what is the most rare factory option, options, or option packages available on the 69-72 K/5 Blazer and/or 70-72 Jimmy?

Actually, the vast majority of '72 Blazers had black tops. Someone has posted stats on this before.

Super rare---shoulder belts for the rear seat!! Door window covers with doors that did not have roll up glass--check out the factory assembly manual!! My parts blazer was a highlander--not that rare but really a beautiful truck in it's day. And yes, there is a supplier for the highlander weave material--. you just need to sew it in--hehehehe

my 71 2wd has the Top mounted shoulder belts. Top has been hanging in the garage untouched for 15 years. BTW it is a double wall.

Could you get shoulder belts in the single wall top?

Cruise control was usually dealer installed right??? Could you get a 4x4 with it or was it 2x4 only?

I've seen a list of accessories before as well, can anyone a link or a list of what accessories were available?

Was a brush guard or rear spare tire carrier available from the factory?

What about running boards, roof racks or dual exhaust?

I have a '70 2wd that has a factory black double wall top, swing out rear tire carrier, and was ordered without a roll bar. Pretty rare options...it's also gold interior and exterior, but I think somebody on this sight has a gold one also. Other than these two, I havent seen any other gold ones.

Another pretty rare option is a 6 cyl equipped model. Had to be ordered.....

my 69 was factory AC, not real rare, but definately nice, my 72 had the swing away spare tire holder two auxillary tanks inside the bed, with factory skid plates on the bottom, OH and POSI!! But not in the front (darn it!)

gjk5 08-22-2006 04:22 PM

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

My '72 came with the swing away tire holder, skid plates and posi and used to have the two aux tanks but the friggin' PO took one out and threw it away (and glued a round piece of metal over the hole).

That hole goes nicely with the string of holes along both panels where he incorrectly installed the soft top without using the angle bracket.

Check in parts, you can buy a Highlander brochure from a member. The thread just arose from last spring again. The roll bar was an option, not deleting it.Cruise control was available as a factory option of dealer installed accessory. There was a brush guard as part of the accessory offerings. The behind fenderwell tanks were aftermarket.A rare option was posi in front and winch was offered and rare to find.Hand throttle was part of the package.A rare delete option on standard K/5s was a solo-seating option.

I didn't think you could get a front posi in these.

I saw an 8-track tape player in the accessory book. Was this available from the factory, or just provided as a dealer installed accessory?

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

sorry I have to wake this dead thread because I think it has good information, but also because I think its hilarious that my Blazer, as a factory option, has door edge guard trim. Door Edge Guards??? I cant believe this was something that made my parts tag. only one is left on the blazer too, i would have guessed all day long that they were a dealer add-on before I actually saw the ID tag on the glove box door.

Anyone else have strange optional extras?

Other than the funny door edge guards my blazer is pretty generic.

Hey Guys, I have a 71 Black duel interior dome light double wall top. Have not ever seen one on this site or the MANY shows across the country I have been too.

To be honest, I have always wondered:

This this top REALLY rare???? or has this top been customized? Not sure, however i know for a fact that this top had not been cut or opened up.....

Either way, curious what you guys think? Nick

The throttle knob was the first cruse control you could use to hold a certain speed un like cruse control when you braked it had to be pushed in.

I think they were 16" wheels - that's what is on my SPID. Soft tops were a GM sanctioned and dealer installed option - at least in 71 and probably a pretty rare purchase. A roll bar (or a swing away spare tire carrier for that matter) was never a sanctioned GM option nor was it shown as such in any GM brochure that I've seen. Both were simply aftermarket add-ons.

16" would be rare too, hadn't seen those listed on a SPID as a GM option....but 16.5" wheels were an option as shown here:

Has anyone here ever seen one of the original dealer-installed soft tops (as opposed to one of the current aftermarket ones)? The one pictured in the Chevy and GMC sales brochures looks very cool but I've never seen (yet) a truck for sale that has one.

That would be cool to see the casa grande in real life.

My 72 had the stock soft top on it when the previous owner bought it. He said it was junk so he threw it away. Kinda sucks I may have been able to save it or restore.
