Finally got done with my drop...pics inside

So after a few weeks of "wrong" parts...waiting on fedex...and other stuff.
Finally got my truck done last night, took it to get alignment today.
Even after cutting about 1/4 coil on the belltech springs, looks like I gotta cut a little more. Maybe in a few weeks...
I'll get some better pics later, had to snap these real quick as soon as I got home from alignment, it's getting dark already...
Let me know what you think.

Yeah I love it the way it sits. With all the work you've put in it my lazy butt wouldn't touch it. I could come and visit and show you how to just wash it and ride it.

Damn, it looks so much better now. Taking off those bedrails made a huge difference. Great rim choice too.

Very very nice.
I like the drop on it.

Drop and wheels really set it off.

Where did you order parts from....

Any issues with the installs?

That looks GREAT... it will look even better after you drop the front 1"+ more :). I am glad to see that you removed the bed rails as well... nicely done!

Let me know what you think.

I think it looks really sharp, pcmcobra.
I also agree with on lowering it a bit more. I think if you can get the wheel closer to tuckin', then you'll have the stance dialed in.

Now do a good burnout to get rid of that sticker on the tire thread... j/k ;)

That looks good! Have you considered removing those chip guards from the front of the wheelwells. I removed mine and it looks MUCH better.

I can assure you it won't be easy, its the coating that is cracked. It took me a couple hours. I scrubbed and scraped with a plastic scraper (like a window scraper) to keep from scratching the paint. I used some spray but I don't remember what. Lemme check and see what I used.

You think those wheels will tuck without a problem? I'm going to get the same ones for my 83 but my truck is going to be a lot lower. How much did you pay btw?

the back will, but will need more backspace on front. I got 4-3/4. The 5-1/4 should tuck, mine is like right there, maybe if i roll the lip it would.
wheels were $250/front 20x8.5&$300/rear 20x10
Good price on a nice wheel.

Direct from www.coyswheel.com
call and talk to David, he'll hook you up, tell him John from Florida sent you ;)
Tires cost as much as the wheels :(

In a previous thread, I think pcmcobra said that he's running 245/40s up front and 295/40s out back.

Ditto on the side shots...

Is it possible to try to apply some heat (blow dryer) and peel the guard off once the adhesive is soft? Then go back with 'Goo Gone' to remove the adhesive residue.

It's gonna take something with a wee bit more heat than the 'ol ladys hair dryer something more like a heat gun used for heat shrink tubin'.

BTW your truck looks like a clone of Swervin Ervin's.

Ok, I found my notes for the tech article I am putting up. I use a Heat gun, Goo-gone, Castrol Super clean, a plastic scraper and a stiff brissel brush (plastic)

Mine was actually brittle to the point of being dry and gritty, and the size of the "pieces were smaller than a dime.
I coated it with Castrol and went over it with the bristle brush, to see what would come off, then scraped with the scraper. Did this a number of times to remove the top layer (and alot of it down to the paint). Then coated the area with goo-gone, let it sit and started scraping, as I said it was brittle, so it was all flaking off. I put the heat gun to it to see if it would soften up, and it did some, but some spots still needed scraping. I did this over and over until it was all gone. I use less amounts of heat on my part and more Castrol than goo-gone. I have a Before/after somewhere, just gotta find it...

I use a plastic puddy knife and aircraft adhesive remover. You can purchase it at your local OReilly's store if they have a automotive paint section. Also they sell a rubber wheel that costs' around $40.00 that you put in a drill... but I have never used them before- but I've heard the local body shops use them to take of the sticky residue.

Good luck... it takes time. :)

roger that
on a side note, after I got alignment done...I noticed they had gouged the lip of my wheels. I was "off the hook", so to speak. Anyway, long story short, I'll be getting some new wheels.
:)

The only problem I ran into was the spring plate and the shock mount really close. I took the spring plate to my bench grinder, just the right width, notched a little bit, and fits like a glove. And if you are using drop shocks, don't use the shock relocators... :( Just an FYI, or you will be taking everything off the rear, and reassembling without them...DOH!
First off, the drop shocks are too short w/ shock relocators, second off the shock relocator on my kit...is actually too wide for the shock, you could "bend" it I guess, but looks like, well, you bent it...

Re: Finally got done with my drop...pics inside

I did almost everything, I took the control arms to a powdercoat shop, and had a machine shop put in the new ball joints and bushings.
Time consuming, but once you see what needs to go where...it's pretty easy.
If/when I take it apart again, it's a no brainer.
