Kid,
Been watchin your thread...looking good. I am looking for a genIII motor and trans currently so that I can put in motor and trans mounts and finish up the frame. Havent been doing much last few days... went to the portland swap meet. got a hood for 60 bucks though: |
Re: New Project... Low 50
I also need some measurements if anyone can help. Getting ready to shorten my frame. I know I need to shorten 9.25", however I need thhe measurements from the each of the runningboard braces/supports for a shortbed. How far apart are each one. I dont have any runningboards yet.
Thanks Jason |

Curious what is involved with shortening a frame. I have a few questions. Did you support the truck on jack stands when you performed the surgery? From the photos it was hard to tell. What did you use to make your cuts in the frame. Cut off wheel or sawsall by chance. You are making nice progress. Thanks Marc |
Re: New Project... Low 50
Marc,
It is really not that difficult, this is my 3rd shorten job. The entire frame is leveled on a combination of jacks and blocks. Just make sure it cant move. Then everything else is simple... just measure 4000 times and cut once. measure 4000 times again and weld once. measure another 4000 times just to make sure it is exactly where it needs to be. Reinforce the hell out of it, boxed it etc. Simple huh:rolleyes: Jason |
Re: New Project... Low 50

Re: New Project... Low 50
my guess would be camaro rotors, eldorado calipers, and brackets to make it work here are a few i know about:

Then you have some options, the instructions included are very good. They explain exactly which rotors you need(5x5, or 5x4.75) and which calipers you need to match, these are actually front S10 calipers. The rotors (5x4.75) are from a 79-81 firebird. |
Re: New Project... Low 50
what size tire are you going to run on the 20's?
|

Prolly something in the 25" tall range for the front...18" rim. |
Re: New Project... Low 50
what are you doing for an e-brake?
|
Re: New Project... Low 50
I converted my rear brakes to disc and I used older Cadillac calipers that have the parking brake built into the caliper. I think that they were from a 85 Eldarado or something. The core charge was steep so I picked up a set of the calipers at a salvage yard to use as my cores.
My kit was a weld on. Gray776's kit looks very clean. Marc |

Re: New Project... Low 50
i just used rear discs from a 98-02 f-body. 12 inch rotors, 1.75" PBR calipers with parking brake drums. they bolt right up to my '77 nova 8.5" 10-bolt rear. i just had to swap sides (mount left on the right, and vice versa)

Re: New Project... Low 50
Im using dodge disks from a new pickup...cheap as hell and give me my bolt pattern.

Re: New Project... Low 50
gray776-
I wish I had gone with the LS1. I went with an LT1/4l60E. I have had my motor and trans for a few years and the LS1's were almost twice as much. Who are you using for your motor wiring harness? I am no electrician, so I went with an aftermarket harness. I chose Howell engine performance. They are somewhat local and a little cheaper then S&P. I did use S&P for all of my pullies. I really need to get around to buying my wheels and tires as well. I have been butting it off until the end. Again the truck looks good. Marc |
