My 70 2wd Project begins!

I recently purchased this 70 2wd Blazer and over the past two weeks the rebuild has started. I am new to the Forum and i am loving it. This is my first truck/blazer build so i will probably be seeking advice often. Thanks:hiya:

Welcome - another 2wd saved!!!

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Honestly my plans were to have a simlar look as kyle4381, hope he doesn't mind. I had made most of the decisions before i saw his. I have a 6.0 and tranny (4l65E) out of an 05 yukon denali XL. Talking with porterbuilt about a dropmember now. I am looking at the new trailing arm rear kit offered by ART. They say it will work on a blazer. I would love some input on this?? Strong arms and bags on the front. Disc brakes all the way around. 20's of some kind. Tahoe seats, maybe from an 07. Not sure what to do about a top - soft vs smooth?? I will post pics as i go. Currently it is apart waiting on braces (per threads i have read) and then body removal and off to blasting!

Welcome to the 2wd side of things.
|
Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Why would you replace the trailing arm suspension that came in the truck?
I am sure you have reasons, what would they be? TIA, Tom PS, welcome to the forum from a fellow 2wd owner. |
Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
i like the kit offered by ART - However i may use my trailing arms and their crossmember, c-notch and accesories?? I am up for suggestions. The trailing arm rear is a new project for me. Until now, most of my stuff has been cars (camaro's and mustang's) or new model leaf springs rides.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Here is my question, why in the heck would you find a rare 2wd and hack it up? The reason I ask, is that for your above list of mods a more common 4X4 Blazer could be modded to fit your needs and the 2wd could survive as is? I am not an over spray 100 point resto freak, but I can appreciate the rare factor in a factory 2wd Blazer and think cutting one up is kinda sacrelegious. I have a line on a 2wd and would rather cut up my 4X4 to do a C notch and all the other stuff rather than molest a more valuable and highly saught after 2X? Heck I'll trade you my 4x for your 2wd, how's that sound?
|
Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Welcome from another 2wd owner. Keep us posted on your progress. If you decide to sell for a 4x4 to hack up. Give me a call. I'd like to hack up your 2wd and save mine.
|
Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Yep keep the 2WD and hack it up how ever you want! I would do some more checking into the trailing stock trailing arm set up because they are one of the best factory designed set ups out thier. I would change out your crossmember if you are wanting to go over 6" of drop in the back for ride height, C-notch it, shock relocator and panhard relocator. Then go with drop coil springs or air bags and you will be very happy. And yes go for the Drop member from Nate for sure!!

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
2wd k5s are valuable and rare models, But you need to get out of the ordinary to extraodinary, Hotrods are always modified completly transformed and they are the most valuable vehicles in the world ! so why not horoded a rare model truck?

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
atp-There are plenty of board vendors here, but the one that I would recommend would be Tim Christian. www.christiansclassics.com He is also close to you in East TN. So shipping will hopefully be a minimum.

WOW! You are ceartainly headed in the right direction now. That Porterbuilt Dropmember should get you a huge jump on getting the front on the ground. The C-4 stuff is just icing on the cake.
Congrats on the new addition....:) |
